clang clang clang. clang clang clang. "C'Mon Borealis! wake up! You've been asleep- or doing whatever you have been doing, for like two whole days straight!" I hear a familiar voice call from outside my room on the astral express. I quickly stand up from my disgustingly messy bed that was peppered with notes and books with unkept pages and walk over to the sliding door of the room and open it.
"March what do you want? Can't you see im in the very important process of rotting in my bed reading? so what if I forget to eat for a few days." I rub my eyes still drowsy from the lack of sleep and scratch my back.
"Because eatings important...? Also because we landed at penacony! Stelle and I really miss you and want you to come with us to the hotel!" She stared at me with her colorful eyes.
Thats right. Penacony. I totally forgot that was the next planet we we're supposed to go to. I heard the dreamscape is pretty nice...maybe I could even research the technology behind it for some of my experiments. I glance back at March "Okay Okay I'll get ready jeez just gimmie one sec-" I Pull the door shut before March can say another word. I walk to my dresser and change to the only set of clothes I have, a pale blue shirt and a lab coat deciding to skip the tie for now, and greet the other members of the express already in the main car.
"Hey Ali, Catch!" Stelle says before throwing an apple square at me.
"Could you not have just handed it over like a normal person?" I say with a slanted glance taking a bite from the apple as we all start to board Penacony's Grand Hotel. We have a brief meeting with Sunday and Robin Oak before they give us our room keys. I quickly start examining my room and stepping into the dreampool. I think to myself how the sedative even works, before I get plunged into the dreamscape.
Once in the dreamscape im blinded with bright billboards and builds that overload my eyes. Before I get distracted and try to figure out how the dreamscape works, I decide to go meet up with the other members of the express. We all decided that we will explore the dreamscape by ourselfs and regroup later. I wandered around Golden Hour trying some of the food from the outdoor vendors wondering to myself how I was even able to taste in a dream. I decided to go explore around and eventually find myself standing somewhere called Dreams Edge with less people scattered around.
I relish in the quite of it all for a moment before I see someone that catches my eye immediately. It seemed to be a cyborg of somesort dawning a stereotypical cowboy get up, but once I see his face, I'm met with soft skin and what looks to be almost shark teeth. I quickly run over to the man incredibly facinated wanting to ask a thousand series of questions on how he works but before anything strange slips out of my mouth I figured I should introduce myself and try to act at least somewhat normal.
"Im-Im Borealis you can call me Ali and I was just wondering- Are you a robot?" I ask the man slightly shielding my face within my own hair.
"What in tarnation! You can't just sneak up on a guy like that!" The robot man stares down at me almost jolting back against the railing of the rooftop.
"My apologies, Im just extremely facinated with anything extraordinary and thought I could talk with you for a moment." I speak with forgiveness and hoping to give the man a good enough reason for their interaction. He looks down at the ground to himself for a minute before looking back up at me.
"Yeah I am part cyborg." He holds his hands on his hips. "What exactly do you want to know?"
"Well for starters, why would you want to replace an organic body for a cybornetic one? Unless its something to do with the path you follow." I ask shifting over to look over the railing at the sky thats barely breaking dawn.
"I didnt get to choose this." I hear the tone in his voice shift. "It was the mother fudging IPC's fault, they're the reason I even went here."
"What exactly did the IPC do to you..?"
"They blew up my home. Took away everything I knew and held dearly to me. Now I'm seeking revenge against them via any means."
I stare down at the ground below to avoid making eye contact with the man, feeling almost responsible for brining up some type of past trauma.
"Im sorry It wasn't my purpose to-" I get cut off.
"It aint your fault. As long as you aren't part of the IPC theres no reason for me to hate ya. You aren't part of the IPC right?" He gives me a questioning glare.
"Oh aeons no! They may have offered to pay for some of my research experiments but Id never join them and their shady strategies. I instead opted to go for the Express." I clarify.
"Well thats good, the names Boothill by the way." He shifts closer also looking out to the sky against the railing. "So are you some type of nameless?"
"I suppose? I mostly joined the express to go to planets and study them. I kinda just stick around as the groups medical worker and work independantly most times." I notice myself getting slightly flustered from the closer proximity playing around with a strand of my hair.
"Pfft, well maybe one day when your research is good enough you'll finally give me an actual real body again." He gives me a goofy wink which promps my cheeks to flush a little more.
"Can we talk somewhere maybe not on the railing of a building?" I suggest still trying to hide my blushing face.
"Sure. Wherever you go I'll follow. For now." Boothill responds as he started to follow me near one of the more populated areas.
I thought to myself as we walked: "Maybe he can be a new research buddy."
