I think people have an easier time excusing the Soul being denied friendship & love if they already think of us as this supreme, godlike being. Ego is an impermanent cushion, and even to the point of feeling like they already have too much will wither (esp. when the opposite is true. Why would anyone feel the nameless, abused captive "needs to be taken down a notch" unless they had this skewed perception that it already sat upon some kind of throne?) And I've a feeling some are subconsciously aware of how disadvantaged we really are and have learned to see us as a god to cope. "A transactional, one-way relationship is fine, and unrequited love is fine because we don't need it. We don't even deserve it, because we're already so far above everyone else. In fact, we're harming them (or are at least a threat) just by being present, even if it is for a useful cause." The term for that is benevolent superiority/condescension. If you don't see yourself that way (and you know the other characters have only given the soul Crumbs, if not worse, thus far), the pain of Kris & Ralsei's rejection is more perceptible.

chapter 5 was confirmation on stuff that we were already collecting evidence for. transfem ralsei didnt just start having evidence in chapter 5 people have been suspecting it since chapter 2.

ralsei isnt a real person. its not disrespectful to use she/her on ralsei if ralsei doesn’t have a strict canonical gender assigned to them by toby. clearly theres conflict on what ralsei wants vs. a role they have to play. literally its inconsequential
