White Tailed Deer (Male) : The deer on our local greenways are pretty used to having people in their space. This one waited patiently while I took some photos before heading off to continue grazing. You can see the new set of antlers he’s growing, rounded and still covered in velvet—this velvet supplies nutrients to the antlers as they develop. By late summer to early fall, it will dry up and be shed, usually rubbed off on trees and shrubs as the antlers harden in preparation for the breeding season.
