"It’s nice to make friends." Jane smiled.  "Hmm well we can go get something to eat or go watch a movie.  I’m really not picky as to what we do." She shrugged.  "Do either of those sound good to you?"  She asked.  It sounded like Morgan never really had friends and Jane felt bad for him.  He seemed like a really sweet guy.

"Yeah... yeah it is," he replied grinning. "A movie sounds good..." Morgan replied hoisting his bag onto his shoulder and fiddling with the strap a little. "So uhm... do you have things to go do or... can we start hanging out now?"  he glanced between Jane and the floor not really sure what to do or say...

"That’s good then.  Yes I think that would be best." She nodded.  She watched him fiddle with his book.  She could tell he was nervous, but then again she felt like he stayed that way.  She didn’t mind, it was kind of cute.  She looked back up to him when he started speaking.  Jane smiled at him.  “No I don’t have any plans.  Sure I’ll hang out with you.  Yes I barely know you, but how am I supposed to get to know you better if we don’t spend time together?" She asked.  “Did you have something in mind you want to do?"

Morgan nodded, "That's true I guess, I've never really gotten to know many people...I uh... no I don't have anything in mind... I was hoping you might suggest something... I'm really... I've never really hung out with people much..." He got to his feet pushing the books he needed into his bag. He stared down at the ground hoping she would have an idea otherwise he'd have to come up with something and he really wasn't sure what he should suggest...

"I’m pretty sure I’m lucky," she smirked a bit, “Or maybe it’s both." She shrugged, glancing away, “There’s a specific office filled with clubs and things like that as far as I know. I think it’s by the counselor in the main building. You should try and find it, or at least someone who actually knows where it is."

"Give me a bit of that luck, trying to get any is like trying to find stardust." He nodded listening to what she was saying, inclining his head slightly. "I'll... I'll go do that," he grinned widely, "Thanks Seb... I uhm... I'll do that now before I forget... I guess I'll see you around..."

"Maybe you should find people with your interests. It's easier to talk to someone if you actually like the same things that they do. I'm sure if you looked around you could find a club or something full of people who like the same stuff," she shrugged, "But I don't know if it always works. I've never had a problem with people."

[morganhooper]

"I uhm... I guess..." he muttered, "That's a good suggestion... a really good one in fact... I just... I don't really know how to go about finding or joining any clubs... but I'll look into it." He smiled up at Seb, "thanks Seb, I appreciate it... If you've never had problems then I guess you're lucky... or maybe I'm just unlucky..." He shrugged.

“What?  That’s awful.  I hate it when people feel they have to assert their dominance and pick on other people.  I’m sure none of what they said was actually true.” She said, sitting down in front of Morgan.  “Well I’m glad you got away from them.  The library is a wonderful place to go to forget your problems.” She smiled and laid her books on the table.  “So you’re all right then?  Or do I need to go kick someone’s arse?” She asked, teasing slightly.

"No no... I'm all good now..." Morgan replied smiling a little bashfully up at her. "I'll just steer clear of them in the future.." He fiddled with the corner of the book in his lap flicking at the corners of the pages and running his fingers along the edges, "So uh... Do you have plans this afternoon or..." he blushed a little, "I just... wondered if we might hang out or something.. it's okay if you don't want to... I mean you barely know me or anything.."

Jane looked slightly surprised when he said her name so loudly.  “It’s…it’s fine.” She replied, stepping up to the table.  “You don’t need to shout though.  I’m right here.”  She explained what her research paper was on and what kind of books she was looking for.  She even told him which ones she’d found already. 

“But enough about me.  Are you ok?  You seem a bit jumpy or something.” She said, looking him over.

He listened smiling an nodding, Jane seemed friendly enough, maybe he could be friends with her... if she wasn't put out by his nervousness... He sighed looking down at the book in his lap. "I uh... Some people just shook me up a little today... they didn't actually hurt me or anything just... Shouted a lot at me and insulted me..." He smiled up at her, "I was just trying to hide out for a little while, somewhere they wouldn't go and... where I could get on with something useful," he motioned towards the books.

Jane was in the library looking for books to help her with one of her research papers.  She was a bit excited for this one as the topic was quite interesting to her.  She’d already found two books and was searching the shelves for a third when she thought she saw a familiar face.  “Morgan?” She asked as she walked closer to the table.

He glanced up over his book, quickly trying to remember the name of the girl who he'd met the other day, "Jane!" he cried out a little louder than intended, sinking a little lower in his chair and muttering, "Sorry that was a little loud... wasn't it..." He tried to smile up at her, "What um... what books are you looking for?" he asked shifting into a somewhat more comfortable position.

Morgan sat in a back corner of the library hiding behind the shelves and his books at a small table. He didn't like hiding but right now that was all he wanted to do, he'd encountered a few unsavoury characters while wandering around campus and they'd made clear their intention to hurt him for being what they called a 'smart arse know it all punk kid'. All he'd done was apologise for hitting one with a door as he came out a lecture room and try to make conversation. Instead they'd begun throwing every insult and curse under the sun at him about his age, intelligence and appearance... He heard footsteps nearby and sank lower in his chair trying to hide behind the anatomy book he was skim reading.

There is always something to do, people simply need to learn how to make tasks for themselves to carry out.

So, I have to ask.  What in particular draws you to want to work in a morgue?  Such macabre lines of work aren’t usually what people gravitate towards.

Well I... I've always had somewhat of an affinity for biology... but I'm terrible at talking to people I don't know... In a morgue the only new people I'll be meeting are dead and they don't talk. I feel kind of terrible when I say it like that but... It's the simplest way to put it. I did think about being a surgeon... but I think I'd be too nervous to try that... too nervous to talk to people and too nervous to have someone's life in my hands...

"What does age have to do with anything? Just because someone is older doesn't make them 'scary' or whatever. Fuck, man, I think I have more balls than you and I'm a girl," she punched his arm what she thought was lightly, "Just try to loosen up, kid. Uni's gonna suck if you just keep actin' scared of everything and everyone."

"I know, I know... The age gap seems to make people treat me like a child though..." Morgan let out a sigh, "I'm just really struggling to... what do they say... come out of my shell?" he sighed, "I'm terrible with new people, I never know what to say or how to start conversation and then I feel like I've said something stupid..." he laughed nervously combing a hand through his hair. "I'll... I'll try not to... I know it'll be bad if I don't get to know people it's just... meeting new people is the hardest part of it all... Never mind actually getting to know them."

Exactly.  Police officers can manage the ordinary cases themselves.  But the more interesting ones are usually beyond their grasp.  Which is where I plan to step in.

Boredom only lends itself to people being unproductive, after all.  Hardly a trap one wants to fall into.

Well I guess you would be saving the police time and manpower... As they say 'Everyone's a winner' Boredom is horrible... I don't understand why anyone lets them self become bored, they can always read a book if there's really nothing else to be done...

"It's a nickname," she rolled her eyes a little, "My full name is Sebastienne. Only people who want their arses kicked call me that though." She ran a hand through her hair again, "Though, the boyish sound of it is kind of the point. I don't like my name because it's too feminine for me; it might give people the wrong idea of who they're dealing with." She leaned back away from him and rubbed the back of her neck, ruffling her hair a little, "You're not very good with people, are you?"

"I'll keep that in mind..." he muttered, "femininity and masculinity is all a matter of opinion and perception... I've met some people I would consider feminine who are quite the opposite in personality... but whatever floats your boat... That's what people say right?" He smiled nervously blushing and feeling like he'd rambled too much again, "No... I'm really not... it doesn't... it doesn't help that almost everyone I meet here is older than me..."

Oh, so he was a know-it-all. That sort of explained the lack of anything resembling social skills. She finished her cigarette and dropped it on the sidewalk, stomping it out with her foot as he introduced himself. Morgan Hooper. Hmm. It seemed to fit. It was definitely a cutesy name for a cutesy, squishy boy. Definitely someone she could easily have fun messing with if the opportunity presented itself. Tucking her hands in her pockets she smiled, her voice sultry and alluring, “Seb Moran.”

He frowned, "That's interesting, what's Seb short for? I always assumed it was a boys name... Not that I have problems with girls having boys names and... I'd better shut up..." he chewed his lip a little nervously, wondering what she might say... Why did he think talking to people was a good idea? Maybe he should've talked to someone shy like himself... Seb seemed so confident...In her attitude and appearance... so opposite of him...

I guess the title is less obvious than I thought.  It would mean that people would come to me with their cases and I would assist them.  Provided I accept the job.  I don’t want to work on boring cases, after all, things like missing heirlooms or run-of-the-mill murders.

Oh, I understand, there's no point in doing a job if it's not... interesting I guess is the appropriate word...

“I uh… loosen up..” he muttered blinking a few times before shaking his head, “I just never know what to say and then I say everything at once,” he let out a nervous giggle licking his lips and scratching the back of his head. “So uh.. you smoke, I don’t heh… so what do you study? I don’t… I’ve not seen you about before… I don’t think…” He looked at the blonde’s face before glancing back down at the floor fiddling with the strap of his satchel.

She was trying to be patient and not smack him upside the head since he hadn’t technically done anything wrong, but his fidgeting and nervousness were getting a bit annoying. Exhaling more smoke and running her other hand through her hair she looked at him, “I study English; I’m pretty sure unless you’re studying something similar you wouldn’t run into me very often.” She just then realised she didn’t know his name, but if he wasn’t keen on seeing her again it didn’t really matter.

"No, I study forensic anthropology... miles apart as subjects I guess..." he smiled looking back up at her, "Well um... it's... it's nice to meet you... I'm Hooper... Morgan Hooper... and uh, what's your name? If you... if you don't mind my asking..." He'd been telling himself he needed to talk to people so he decide he'd make the effort... an opportunity had presented itself for him to talk to this girl so he would... whether they remained strangers would be up to her.

Well, morgue attendants do often end up giving autopsy results to detectives, so I imagine you will get your fill of that, provided the hospital is in a big enough city.

I plan to work as a consulting detective myself.

Yeah...That... that sounds really interesting, what exactly... what would you do as a consulting detective?

Taking another drag of her cigarette she exhaled softly, just watching as he fumbled around with his words. She just shrugged at his question, tapping some ash onto the sidewalk, “Not really. Just having a smoke and skipping class.” She offered him a thin smile at his nervousness, looking a bit amused by it, “You gotta loosen up. Life’ll be a lot easier if you don’t act like a scared bunny rabbit all the time.”
