The Sun in my eyes
From all the stars that burn so bright, Lighting up the endless sky.
It is the Sun that gives us light, Yellow mellow and humble, it gives us life.
And yet it burns my eyes! If it is so big, why does it hide
Behind its yellow glare? It just isn’t fair!
You say it was here long before But why does it hate me so?
Why does it cheat? In a staring contest, I am beat.
What are these, Black spots that I see?
Why do they follow me? Always out of reach?
My vision might blur, But I am no quitter!
Why does it sit silently by, While I, in agony, cry!
My knees, they fall asleep, I hear my heart beat,
In my chest. Is it time for eternal rest?
And as I fall, As one day do all,
Into death’s embrace, I see before me a face.
It is of my ex wife, The love of my life.
And I remember her last words to me, “The sunset is such a pretty sight to see,
And I am so sorry Steve, But I must go with my team.
To live amongst the stars, I must go away far!”
No! No! I shall continue the fight! I shall prove my might!
And with renewed vigour, Though my legs still quiver,
I stare at that yellow shit Until beneath the horizon it sinks.
