Why I want to be in a coven: group spells, having help in my work, more reasons to actually do spells, more power placed in one spell
Why I don't want to be in a coven: manipulative coven leaders, mean members, i don't like being told what to do
Gingerbread Poppets
Gingerbread poppets are a great yuletide twist on homemade spell poppets.
This spell is best directed at clearing your head of people who have wronged or mistreated you. It is a great way to bring in the new year fresh from negativity of others and effectively removing the conflict of those people from your life.
Following your favorite gingerbread recipe, you will focus on removing the power negative people have in your life. Because of the ingredients of gingerbread it is perfect for this spell.
Cloves are great for gossip protection and spell breaking
Cinnamon is effective in promoting healing and peace
Before putting the cookies in the oven, make a sigil or other representation of an individual who has wronged you this year who you need to break free from.
Once they are done baking, you will eat the gingerbread poppet(s).
When you eat these poppets, consider the power this person had over you and now your power of this representation of them. Visualize the power of their words and their influence over you dissipating as you eat the cookie. You are now in control.
Best eaten alone in quiet with a cup of tea or in the company of close friends.

I LOVE THIS
PART 1:
This is going to be a little introduction to runes. It’s very messy because I suck at writing essays, but should hold useful information.
In here, I will talk about:
1. The Origins
2. The Power/Potency
3. The Alphabet and Pronuciation
Runes: The Origins Runes were used by Pagan tribes across Northern Europe. There’s a few possibilities as to how or when they originated, from scholars saying they date as far back as 500BC or were invented by Vikings around 800AD, the general agreement is that they’re old and were used in Europe. The word itself is derived from an Old Norse word, Run and Old German, Runa, meaning ”whisper” or “secret.” Runes are closely tied to Odin, Chief of the Gods, as he is a travelling Shaman, and was associated with Wisdom and guidance. He was extremely wise, having undergone many journeys with his familiars such as Hugin and Munin or his eight legged horse, Sleipnir (Courtesy of Loki, who turned into a Mare to seduce a magical stallion.). Sleipnir is an important figure in shamanism, seen as the shamanic horse par excellence, that transports shamans in their journeys when in trance.
Here is the figure of the nine staves, in which Odin observed the 24 runic shapes. Runes, according to ancient Germanic people, weren’t created or derived, but an eternal, pre-existing existing force that Odin discovered. The runic alphabets are called “futharks” after the first six runes (Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho, Kaunan). Much like ours, the elder futharks have 24 characters. The younger futharks have 16, and diverged from the Elder Futhraks in the start of the Viking Age. The Anglo-Saxon Futhorc with 33 characters that altered and added to the Elder Futharks in England. Since runes were to be carved on bone, wood, stone or other hard surfaces, their angles make sense. Curves are harder to inscribe.
The 24 characters of the Elder Futharks, as drawn awfully by me, apologies. So here you have a quick overview of where runes came from, both religiously/spiritually and historically, though it’s nebulous on both sides. Runes: The Potency In ancient times, runes were never vibrated or resonated. That was introduced by sorcerers/witches that treated runic names as magical words that could invoke powers and manipulate energy in order to obtain what they desired. Inversely, Runic Shamans only whispered the sounds, as a secret. A secret could be defined as a message that is concealed only to be revealed to those who have been prepared and trusted to receive it. The knowledge was seen as so sacred that it was only transmitted to those who’s minds and hearts had been prepared to receive this secret. The staves (Elder futharks) have been misunderstood to be the runes themselves. That isn’t the case. The runes are a process by which the fundamental potencies of Nature may be carried or conveyed. The images are more like vessels of the potencies. The knowledge of the runes and the runic patterns where what allowed them to access it. A Rune-stave is an energy pattern that is inherent in Nature and within ourselves. Each pattern, each stave is a transporter of a potential quality which once released, acted intelligently to change the material world. Which explains why runes are associated with deities. They work in godlike fashions. The Nazis also used runes in hopes that it’d help them on their way to victory, but only took the runes meanings in their most superficial sense, just like they did with the swastika and many other powerful symbols. (still pissed bout’ that.) Runes: Alphabet and Pronunciation Here, I’m just going to give you a picture from one of my books on runes, since the chart I made in my Grimoire is really bad.
Rune Power, by Kenneth Meadows This should give you a fair idea of the pronunciation, and I definitely recommend the book to anyone interested in Runes and Norse Paganism in general. It’s one of my favourites and my copy is so old and crumpled, it barely stays together. If you want, I can scan the above chart in a clean manner for you to print if you want it in your book of shadows/grimoire.
Next time, we’ll explore the runes individually. Then we’ll look into how to make our own runes, spreads for rune reading, the runic cycles and more!
Astronomer Edwin Hubble was born in Marshfield, Missouri, on November 20, 1889. Let’s celebrate his birthday with views of the cosmic formation that he helped define, the Andromeda Galaxy. From his bio at NASA:
“Most astronomers of Hubble’s day thought that all of the universe — the planets, the stars seen with the naked eye and with powerful telescopes, and fuzzy objects called nebulae — was contained within the Milky Way galaxy. Our galaxy, it was thought, was synonymous with the universe.
In 1923 Hubble trained the Hooker telescope on a hazy patch of sky called the Andromeda Nebula. He found that it contained stars just like the ones in our galaxy, only dimmer. One star he saw was a Cepheid variable, a type of star with a known, varying brightness that can be used to measure distances. From this Hubble deduced that the Andromeda Nebula was not a nearby star cluster but rather an entire other galaxy, now called the Andromeda galaxy.
In the following years he made similar discoveries with other nebulae. By the end of the 1920s, most astronomers were convinced that our Milky Way galaxy was but one of millions in the universe. This was a shift in thought as profound as understanding the world was round and that it revolved around the sun.

Charging a Sigil
Fire:
Write it on a flammable surface and set it on fire (I favour bay leaves)
Carve it on a candle and let the candle melt (you can pick the candle colour according to the spell/wish)
Carve it on a surface with a pyrograph/something hot or carve it on something and put it close to fire where it can charge up.
Draw it on a firework and set it off.
Draw it at the bottom of a tea light and put the candle back in.
Air:
Draw it on a windchime and hand it up.
Make prayer flags with the sigils on them, or a simple flag that’ll blow in the wind.
Draw it on something light and non-polluting and let it go with a gust on wind.
Draw it on a balloon and pop it.
Draw it on a paper kite and let it go in the wind.
Water:
Draw your sigil on a soluble material and let is dissolve, it’ll also charge the water or draw it at the bottom of your cup and it’ll charge both the water and sigil.
Draw it on something non-soluble like a rock and let it soak or even throw it in the river;
Draw it on yourself when taking a shower and let it wash off.
Draw it on the shore where the water will wash it away.
Earth:
Draw it on something from nature (so as not to pollute) and bury it.
Charge it with a crystal grid/previously charged crystals
Draw it on the earth.
Draw it on the leaf of a plant.
Light;
Place it in the sun or moonlight and let it soak it up.
Draw it with a glow in the dark paint.
Draw it on something that’ll disappear like fog on a mirror, lemon juice, ultraviolet pen and such.
Your own Energy:
Meditate on your sigil by focusing on it while you direct your personal energy into it.
Have it near you or on you during sex or masturbation.
Draw it on yourself and dance, sing, workout.
Have it on or near you during extreme pain or emotional states (anger, joy, sadness, etc.)
Draw it with your blood/drop some blood onto it.
Extras:
Place it on a charging device (phone, computer)
Place it on speakers and blast music that matches the intent
Sing/Play an instrument to it
Draw it on the sole of your shoes
Draw it on/near a grave/with grave dirt/anything symbolic of death
Post it on a website such as tumblr where likes charge it and reblogs cast it.
Draw it on paper and tear it up
If you have your own way of charging sigils, do tell me, I am curious, and I’d like to add to the list, since this is in no way the only ways of doing so.

Decorate your altar with them!
Press them into your grimoire or book of shadows for safe keeping or use later in the year
Draw sigils on them then crumple them up or burn them to activate
Crush them into a jar for potent jar spells
Line your plants with them for not only nutrients and to hold in moisture but to give them the traits of the leaf’s color and tree
Charging stones, crystals, water, oils and tarot/oracle cards with the energies of the tree
Use them in curses to cause sudden change, destruction/death of things or decay of things
Grind them into a powder to mix with salt or egg shells and use for protection, cleansing and warding
Using fresh ones line the edge of your tub with them during bath spells and magick, wash them in a sink and let them float in the tub with you if its safe
Cut them up and put small pieces of them in oil and into a pendent bottle/bottle charm to wear
Drip wax on them to seal a spell into them for later use
Hang them on or around your door and other entry points to ward off negativity and protect your home
A witch’s kiss is a thing of power. To seal charms I often press my lips to them, blessing them for their purpose and binding them to me.
