Went to the museum with Luciana!
Luci came home just in time to celebrate Apollo 11's 50th anniversary
It's not perfect, but I've finally gotten my books off the floor and the girls on something other than a cardboard box.
I went to a craft show today and found this dress that reminded me of Emily's Christmas dress, so of course I had to get it. I might decide to alter it some, but then again, I might not.
Guys!
Today's goodwill find! Only the first book, but it has pictures!
Caroline and I braved the mosquitoes to go exploring! We got some storms on saturday that knocked down a tree, and she decided to climb it.
Also, I finally took a picture of her new dress! It’s meant to look like the one she wears under her coat on the cover of A Surprise for Caroline. I used the pattern for Josefina’s christmas dress to make it, and kind of did my own thing for the sleeves. (I even channeled my inner Caroline and sewed part of it by hand!)
She loves her new dress, and I think she looks adorable!
In case anybody hasn’t seen all of Molly’s original illustrations yet, here’s what they would have looked like as trading cards.
Every month or so, I’ll go around to all the thrift shops near where I work/go to school. I’m always looking through the toys and children’s books in hopes of finding something American Girl, or just something I can use for any of my dolls. This week I found one of Josefina’s mysteries, something I’ll use in a project for Caroline, and this little lady.
She looks almost exactly like the doll Samantha receives for christmas, and was the right size to be a doll for an American Girl. But I don’t think she is. Her tag said she was made in Taiwan in 1983 by Kurt S Adler, and she had a loop of string that made me think she was meant to be a christmas ornament. Whatever she’s from, I still thought it was a cool find (that I left there for someone else).
Can somebody please talk me out of cutting Emily’s hair so it will match the original illustrations!?!?!?!?!?
Look at that! why was she re-illustrated without the side part? It’s really cute! I would 100% change Emily’s part if I could! (Is there a way to do that without completely re-wigging her?)
I think Emily would look so cute with that very short hair! It would make her very unique.Â
To change her part, you can take the wig off, move it to the side, and then glue it back down. In that case you’d probably need to at least trim it to make it even on both sides, since moving it will make it lopsided.
But that’s what I did with my Rebecca, since I wanted her deep side part to match the illustrations and her original part was just barely to the right of center. The length difference isn’t too obvious because of her curls, luckily.
Original on the left, and my Beckie Boo on the right:Â
I will definitely consider doing that! I’ve never loved Emily’s center part tbh, so I might just try adjusting her wig when I have the time. Also the last half inch of her hair is really dry anyway, so even if I don’t cut her hair that short, she could use a trim.
In the meantime, I played around her hair a little just to see what a side part would look likeÂ

Me: expresses desire to make doll clothes My mother: gets me easy doll clothes patterns for my birthday Me: I think I’ll start with a harder pattern. And alter it.
Let me tell you, I had no intentions of creating an American girl oc until I got this cute little key, and now I want to create a character whose story includes a mystery about where the key came from and what it unlocks. I would definitely want her to be historical, maybe Victorian. But if I did create this character, I have no idea which doll I would use, or what I would call her.
You can all ignore this reblog if you want, I’m just thinking and writing things down for myself.
Great ideas. The mysterious key reminds me of the The Secret Garden. If you end up getting stumped on character creation, you could always make a Mary Lennox character.Â
The idea of a Secret Garden influence is cool, i like the idea of this character being moved to some new gaurdian who lives in a big house full of mysteries and locked doors. I’m sure no matter what you make it will be super cool!
Thanks, I did figure out some plotting last night. Maybe I’ll even write out some stories for them while I’m trying to get the dolls.Â

So I’ve been looking at dolls for a while and here are my thoughts: I think I might want more than one oc doll. Possibly three: two girls and boy. Just for funsies.
I feel like I’d need them to be JLY dolls, because if they’re actual characters, I’d just want to restore them into who they’re supposed to be.Â
I would definitely buy used dolls. Dolls without clothes or with haircuts are fine. I’d just be altering the dolls and making my own clothes for them anyway.
Dolls I like for ocs:Â
Number 53 is my favouriteÂ
but she’s not really speaking to me for this story.
I’ve always loved number 21Â
and I smile everytime I see a picture of her. She feels like she could fit
I found a 33 (I think) on ebay,Â
and she was adorable. For sure looked like a protagonist, but cost more than I really wanted to pay
And then I really want a boy character too. Number 75 is my favourite that ag’s madeÂ
but maybe I’ll find a girl whose hair has either been cut or I’m willing to cut (#40 and #25 are probably the two who look most like him, but we’ll see what I can find)
As for their characters:
The boy will probably be named Oliver.
Potential names for the girls: Adelaide, Sarah, Katie...
Somebody will be siblings. Haven’t decided if it will be the girls, or Oliver and one of the girls, or maybe all three.
Maybe one or more of them will be orphans, or adopted into the same family. I don’t know yet, but I’m having fun thinking about it.
This list is really for my own reference in case I ever get anywhere with this idea, and I’ll probably update it if I find more dolls that I like.Â
