I did this at the gym yesterday, apparently it's good core and a suitable replacement for lunges. Plus it works on your balance. Maybe next week I won't fall over as much.

Today I'm doing another hasfit workout. I've liked them so far (they are hard) and the variety is really welcome since I'm not very good at switching up everything on my own.
I'm excited to have found this website today. I've been wondering how to get my abs looking better, and I'm exited to try this 30 day plan. I hope it works out. I should probably do before/after pictures...
Day off
Yesterday was my day off from the gym. I really think I needed it. I worked on my legs Tuesday and did more reps than normal (and when I did Squats, I used a 90 lb bar instead of a 50 lb dumbbell. As a result my legs (especially my inner thighs were quite sore yesterday and still a little today). I haven't completely figured out what my work out will be tomorrow (I probably need to look into what I am doing today as well) but I have contacted an old friend from college who is pretty experienced in working out and staying fit so I am hoping to use his expertise to continue working out smart.
The link provided takes you to a bulletin board with a bunch of recipe ideas: I'm in the mood for chili right now and it might as well be high protein since I'm looking to put on about 15 more lbs. Incase you just want the chili recipe, I've pasted it below, but all credit should come from the source (see provided link).
Ingredients: · 1 large onion, chopped · 2 large carrots, diced · 3/4 pound extra-lean ground beef · 1 tbsp chili powder · 2 tsp cumin powder · 1 15-ounce can reduced-sodium kidney beans, drained and rinsed · 1 15-ounce can reduced black beans, drained and rinsed · 1 15-ounce can reduced-sodium pinto beans, drained and rinsed · 1 4-ounce can diced jalapeno peppers, drained · 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes Preparation: Coat the inside of a 4-5-quart crockpot with nonstick cooking spray. Place chopped onions and carrots at the bottom of the crockpot. Brown ground beef in a skillet sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Sprinkle chili powder and cumin into skillet. Remove spiced ground beef with slotted spoon and place on top of vegetables in crockpot. Add kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans, jalapeno peppers and crushed tomatoes. Learning from others
Friday I was at the gym and I overheard some guy talking to his workout buddy about working certain muscle types on consecutive days. Curious to learn more, I got the first guy's attention and we had a conversation that was broken up by us doing some sets of our respective workouts.
The guy told me that running everyday and doing leg exercises wasn't ever giving my legs a chance to heal or grow. And that some chest exercises use your arm muscles, just like some back exercises do; so it's good to do them on non consecutive days so that your arms have a chance to repair themselves. I worked on a new workout routine based on what muscle groups this guys does and am excited to try it out today. The workout plan includes taking off Wednesday (I might just go to the gym to sit in the hot tub, that would be relaxing).
He also told me that running and gaining weight are goals on opposite sides of the spectrum and that I can't get tone without first getting bigger (because I don't have any fat to lose). He suggested I drink 3 protein drinks a day, which I will work on.
I'm really hoping to see an increase in weight by the end of the month. Maybe 5 lbs would be nice.
Weight update
Yesterday I weighed myself at the gym and I came in at an almost all time high of 164.4 lbs. With my body fat where it's at; I probably the most muscle I've ever had in my life. I hope. I had to skip running and working out on Wednesday, which actually turned out to be good, my muscles (specifically my back muscles) have felt really tight lately (I would stretch or bend my back and it felt like part of my back was seizing up; which can't be good). I probably need more potassium, but we all know how I feel about bananas.
Last week I broke 400 miles since around January. It's been over 9 months since I quit smoking and I've lowered my body fat percentage from 18 to 9 percent. I've participated in 6 competitive runs and did a head stand in yoga. Pretty much all because I heard about Warrior Dash.
Side view.
I guess I'll post a picture so I can have something to compare to in the future.
I'm not a very good cook; but some of the recipes I've found require onions. This link will help if you need to slice or dice onions.
This recipe website is much better than the other one I posted. The former seems to have about 15 people contributing, whereas the latter is associated with Strength and Muscle magazine. I saw a chili recipe I cannot wait to try out.
I've been having a really hard time sleeping at night. I wake up almost every night around 2 and can't get back to sleep until 4; no matter how I lay in bed. I don't know if it's stress, too many things running around in my head, or my diet. I do know that the only one of those three than I can really to anything to change is my diet. So I found this website earlier today and I am going to make an effort to start making some more nutritious and BALANCED meals. I rarely eat vegetables, fruits or anything healthy and I should. I don't know how well this is going to work out because I am a really picky eater (won't eat bananas, berries, broccoli, cauliflower etc). I'm hoping I have the will power to start eating correctly and maybe change my stubborn ways.
poor workout yesterday
I made this binder and these print-offs to organize my workout. And yesterday I was already at the gym when I realized I had left it all at home. So I did about 4 arm exercises with the weights (or approximately the weights) I normally use. It wasn't a great workout, but I suppose it was better than turning around and heading home. I hope that today will be better.
I really like the internet for looking up stuff I'm curious about.
