Apparently, they never got around to studying it. So his head just sits on a shelf at the University of Lisbon… staring at you… all the time… forever…

Not so romantic space dinners So you’ve planned an exquisite dinner for your loved one. They sit down to a table of small blue flamed candles?? The image demonstrates the difference between a candle burning on Earth (with a tall, yellow flame) and a candle in the microgravity of space (blue and burning on the centre of the wick). On Earth, hot gasses from the flame rise – creating air currents that can feed the fire fresh air. In low gravity situations, there is no air flow. On the International Space Station, ventilation fans replace this natural convection – such that if a fire broke out on the space station it would spread in any direction, not just upwards. Therefore, smoke detectors in the International Space Station aren’t installed on the roof – they’re in the ventilation system itself. Combustion in microgravity is an ongoing concern. The flame’s unusual shape modifies the amount of soot, gas production and smoke. -CB Image: NASA More Information
