Why don't we talk about Portugal more?
They decriminalized ALL drugs. Every single one. Yes, even that one. If you get caught w. more than a 10 days supply (what ever that means) of any drug you meet in front of a Doctor, Lawyer and Social worker about drug addiction. They may or may not give you a fine but essentially thereâs no penalty.
AND IT WORKED! ADDICTION RATES DROPPED. HIV RATES IN INJECTION USERS DROPPED. DEATH BY DRUG OD PLUMMETED.
Potugal has shown us that when we treat drug addiction as a medical/health issue, instead of a moral one, it is more efficient.
hereâs a good article on it

Follow @rhea_thenakedbirdie to learn more about Rhea and see what sheâs up to.
Hello, world! Itâs time to meet todayâs #WeeklyFluff: one special little lovebird named Rhea (@rhea_thenakedbirdie). Rhea lost all her feathers when she was 2 years old â she has Psittacine beak and feather disease, which prevents them from growing back. Friends from all over the world knit this sweet survivor sweaters to ensure she always has something cozy (and fresh) to rock.
all public school anti-bullying activism is extremely transparent and meaningless
faculty: BULLYING IS BAD!! ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY!! THIS IS A HATE FREE ZONE!!
me: hey this person called me a stupid dyke today
faculty: hmm thatâs unfortunate. have you tried perhaps, not being gay?
I feel like everyone is against bullying until they actually look at the kids who are being bullied.
The cheesy anti-bullying tapes that they show in schools feature these skinny straight white neurotypical kids who get picked on for no reason. Usually the insults are something along the lines of âYouâre a loser!â or âGet lost, freak.â All the kids watching immediately feel bad for the victim, and think âAw! She didnât deserve that!âÂ
Then, ten minutes later, they go pick on some marginalized kid without thinking twice. As an autistic person, I was often this kid. The insults I heard growing up were not âYouâre a loser!â or âGet lost, freak.â They were âDonât let the retard work with usâ or âShouldnât she be going to the special school?â
The problem is we teach kids that bullying occurs for no other reason other than just to be mean. This could not be further from the truth. Bullying occurs because as a society, we condition kids into hating fat, black, neurodivergent, queer, and disabled people. Kids donât bully each other just to be mean. They do it because if somethingâs âwrongâ with the person, itâs completely justified.
But of course, we canât tell kids this kind of stuff. We canât say, âHey! Making fun of your gay classmate is bad!â
Because when we do, suddenly the phone calls come pouring in, each with a parent on the other end screaming âYou canât be feeding my son that liberal propaganda!âÂ
A crack in the Larsen C ice shelf grew by 11 miles in the last week of May
President Donald Trump on Thursday announced his decision to withdraw the U.S. from the historic Paris climate agreement. Thousand of miles away in Antarctica, the devastating effects of climate change were making themselves abundantly clear.
Scientists at Project MIDAS tracking the Larsen C ice shelf reported that a rift in the ice shelf grew by an additional 17 kilometers, or 11 miles, between May 25 and May 31.
Itâs just the latest period of rapid growth for the rift, which previously grew by 10 kilometers in January and 18 kilometers in the second half of December 2016. Read more (6/2/17)

Research shows Greenland is melting in a more alarming way than scientists thought
Something alarming happened during the summer of 2012, a record melt year for the Greenland ice sheet:
A massive wave of ice and water moved through one of Greenlandâs glaciers in a never-before-studied type of ice loss.
According to new research published Friday in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, the giant wave that moved through a single glacier on the Greenland ice sheet was âenormous.â
Now, researchers are concerned about what effect this new phenomenon could have on rising sea levels.
Lead researcher Surendra Adhikari of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory told Mic he and his team first became aware of the wave when they studied data from the GPS stations placed around the bedrock of the ice sheet. Read more (5/26/17)

Crowdfunding campaign aims to unseat virulently sexist r/RedPill creator and state rep Robert Fisher
Claire Everhart, a woman based in Washington, D.C., is determined to unseat New Hampshire representative and virulent misogynist Robert Fisher in 2018.
Last month, the Daily Beast unmasked Fisher as the founder of The Red Pill, a subreddit for menâs rights activists and pick-up artists to join together in their hatred of women.
Fisher, who reportedly goes by Pk_atheist on the site, has made comments mocking womenâs âsubpar intelligenceâ and decrying the feminist movement for stripping men â particularly fathers and husbands â of their rights.
The worst of his comments was posted in 2008, when Fisher argued that rape isnât an âabsolute bad.â
âIâm going to say it â rape isnât an absolute bad, because the rapist I think probably likes it a lot,â Fisher wrote at the time. âI think heâd say itâs quite good, really.â
Everhartâs heard enough. This week, she launched a campaign on CrowdPac to crowdfund a future female candidateâs campaign against Fisher in the midterm elections. Read more (5/3/17)
