I lost a friend this week. She took her own life. The more I think about why she made that decision the more I feel I never understood her. The best advice came from a friend. He said, "Don't think about it. Suicide is such a personal issue that you'll never understand someone's motivation." The only adage I have to dwell on came from Eger's essay on DFW's suicide: "People don't kill themselves when they want to. They kill themselves when they need to." Thanks for the outlet. I needed to vent.
