⭐️ “i would ask you how you've been, it's all over the internet / but hey i mean you knew that after all”
i see this as coming from maybe adela. lani is that friend group with megara emily & adela, but she doesn’t see emily&adela very often just bc of like schedules. (she’s closer with adela so they do text&call occasionally) so when anabela dies, they find out through social media. not lani herself. and megara didn’t want to tell them bc it’s not their place.
⭐️ “if you're looking for an autopsy or a half-assed half apology / then i think you picked the wrong time to make this call”
adela immediately calls lani after hearing & this is basically how that goes; she’s lowkey pissed bc solani pretty much disappeared for a few months, & the only updates adela got were through megara: “yeah she’s ok, just wanted to stay in tonight”, “she’s not feeling well”, etc. & then one day in july adela is on instagram or tiktok or whatever, & sees some post about solani’s mom. she thinks its bs at first, but after seeing multiple posts realizes it’s not & confirms with megara.
adela calls lani over&over until she finally answers: “i haven’t heard from you in months, if it wasn’t for megan & lara i’d be looking for a fucking obituary atp,” but lani really does not care. she’s numb to everything but hunger. hence: if your looking for an autopsy or half-assed apology…
⭐️ “it is not irrelevant that you stopped taking your medicine / but i'm giving you the benefit 'cause it's raining out”
the first part of this isn’t as relevant as the second—i just think of it as relating to her ed, so instead of “medicine” it’s that she’s not really eating, and she doesn’t see it as a big deal bc it’s just how she “grieves”.
as for the second line everyone around solani (from the kats to adela to even the fuckass ugly bfs) is taking everything she says/does with a (giant) grain of salt. she’s mean as hell right now, but they’re giving her the benefit of the doubt.
⭐️ “i’ll tell you how the weather is & you’ll slip into some eloquently ramblin’ mixed messaging / i should shut you down”
the kats try to bring up their concerns multiple times, but solani seems to always have some rehearsed rambles of bs excuses.
⭐️ “i hope you tell me that you're winding down /that you've lost the taste to face the crowd / that whatever made you famous made you sick”
solani reaches a certain point in her grief where the girls almost want her to admit she is struggling, because at least then they could actually begin to help her and know how to do so without having decode and fight with her about it first.
as for the second line, her eating disorder accelerated after seeing hate comments online. so, what made her famous (katseye) quite literally made her sick (ed)
⭐️ “that you can only do what pain allows / it ain't up to you to make it out / & there ain't no shame in callin' this thing quits”
solani can only do so much within the constraints of her grief/eating disorder; she can only handle so much of it on her own until she needs help (you can only do what pain allows)
the girls try telling lani she doesn’t have to handle her grief alone (it’s not up to you to make it out) and eventually try convincing her take a brief hiatus at the peak of her depression & ed (no shame in calling this thing quits)
⭐️ “poison spreading to my lungs / i ain't holding breath, ain't holdin' any faith at all”
i think of the ‘poison’ in relation to all she’s refusing to process out of fear: grief, anger, guilt for even being angry, sadness, fear itself. and it’s poison because it’s spreading into every aspect of her life: relationships with herself & the girls, her physical & mental health, her career and performances, her sleep schedule, eating habits, everything. the girls slowly stop “holding breath” that she’ll come to them on her own, hence why the decide to step in.
⭐️ “i’ll leave the porch light on / heartbroken, each morning when it’s me that turns it off”
with lani, this isn’t a literal porch light—the girls are constantly telling her she can come to them, both verbally & physically & every way inbetween. but every time it falls on deaf ears, & every time they grow more and more worried.
⭐️ “you act like we just sit up here & wait for you to reappear / but baby there are bills to pay”
this won’t really make sense in the current bth timeline, but later on there’s a period where lani just kinda shuts down. she won’t leave her room or talk to anyone, she just kinda goes numb. (won’t say exactly why yet…) but as much as they wish they could, and believe me they do try as much as possible, the girls can’t just sit in there with her waiting. they announce she’s on temporary hiatus (actually for her health & wellbeing, not whatever bullshit hxg is pulling w manon rn), and katseye continues. (don’t worry this doesn’t last more than like maybe 2 weeks!!!)

solani rodriguez was one stubborn motherfucker.
this much had been made clear within mere hours following her long-awaited breakdown. sophia had sat on the carpet, holding the younger girl until she cried herself to sleep. and she remained there, surrounded by broken trinkets and cracked picture frames, for nearly two hours until the teen finally began to stir.
“hey, lani.” sophia greeted softly, shifting just slightly to look down at the girls tear-stained cheeks.
solani looked around the room, surveying the damage. she sits up, dragging the back of a hand across her face. “what time is it?”
sophia checked her phone. “uh—almost eleven.”
“at night?” solani shifts out of the older girls hold, hand fumbling for her phone which lay face-down on the carpet. “almost eleven at night?”
“yes, but lani—“
“i need to go to bed.” solani interrupts. she stumbles to her feet, ignoring how her legs ache from being tucked underneath for so long. “we have rehearsal tomorrow.”
sophia follows her upright. “wanna sleep at mine tonight?”
“no.” solani shakes her head, walking past sophia as if she hadn’t just spent the past few hours crying herself sick in her arms. “i want my own bed.”
sophia watches the teen yank open one of her drawers and pull out a large t-shirt that had clearly once belonged to daniela. under any other circumstances sophia would have teased solani for the fact that her wardrobe primarily consisted of everyone else’s clothing.
instead she only watches the younger girl turn her back and pull off her large sweatshirt, quickly slipping the t-shirt on in its place. solani seemed to know longer care about the others seeing how thin she had gotten; there was no sense in hiding it anymore.
“okay,” sophia swallows the pit in her throat. “do you want me to stay with you, then?”
solani is silent for a moment, retrieving a pair of sleep shorts from the same drawer and stepping into them. she pulls them up and sophia watches them disappear under the oversized t-shirt, once again concealing the teenagers secrets. except they’re not secrets anymore, and sophia knows exactly what that t-shirt is covering.
“no, sophia.” solani mutters and sophia jumps. she’d been so focused on watching the teen that she’d forgotten she’d asked her a question. “i’m fine. you can go.”
sophia hesitates. she doesn’t move from her spot by the bed, eyes scanning solani with obvious concern.
“sophia.” solani repeats, firmer this time. “please—just go.”
the older girls eyes snap back up to meet solani’s and she blinks, taken aback by the teens sudden coldness. “okay, lani.” sophia moves towards the bedroom door, not looking away from solani quite yet. “text or call if you need me, okay?”
“please just—don’t make this a thing, okay?”
sophia inhales slightly. solani had been distant for months now, but she’d never refused comfort so outright before. and she’d never, ever pushed sophia away.
“lani…this is a thing.”
the teen is silent again for a moment. she pauses, breathing slowly, before crossing the room. for a brief second sophia believes that maybe she’s coming for a hug, to say she changed her mind and actually does want sophia to stay.
but instead solani only reaches for the door. “‘night, soph.”
the door clicks shut and sophia is left on the other side. she blinks slowly, nearly jumping out of her skin at the sound of dani and manon returning.
“soph? lani?”
sophia pads down the hall, meeting the roommates in the kitchen. manon takes one look at their groups leader, “what happened?”
the filipina sighs, lowering herself onto a barstool. “i don’t even fucking know.”

solani is on a mission.
she’s convinced an unsuspecting megan to drive her to the studio early the next morning, way before anyone else would even be awake.
megan had dropped her off under the guise that solani had been asked to come in early for last minute tour-costume fittings, which wasn’t entirely off. sure—lani hadn’t been requested, and she wouldn’t actually be trying anything on. but that was the topic of her conversation with their creative director.
“oh c’mon, humberto. don’t you trust the vision?” solani begs now, slumped in a desk chair with defeat written into her posture.
“lani, tour starts in under two months. all costumes have been finalized already, we really don’t have the time to—“
solani’s stomach drops, a pit forming as she realizes he is not budging. and then, because she’s desperate, she pulls out her last resort.
“it’s just…i feel like everything’s so tight.” she sighs. “and online there’s so many disgusting comments about my body, like, sexualizing my outfits. and i’d just feel so much better if i was covered more, y’know?” solani watches humberto’s pinched face relax slightly, and she knows she’s got him. “and when brandon does the lift i feel like my shorts ride up, but my top is also super tight and restrictive so i feel like if we went fully baggy, like both pants and top, then—“
“okay, lani.” humberto laughs like solani is just doing her usual rambling, unknowing of her true intents. “i’ll talk with the team, but i’m sure we can make something work. thank you for the suggestion—and for advocating for yourself.” he adds with a knowing wink. “rehearsal starts in ten.”
solani breathes out a sigh of relief. “thank you!” she smiles, exiting the office swiftly. her face falls as soon as the door clicks shut behind her.
“morning, lani!” yoonchae greets, a bit too cheery for how early in the day it was. “you have breakfast yet?”
“i know sophia sent you, yoonchae.” solani grumbles, shoulder brushing against the older girls. “tell her i’m not hungry.”
“but lani—“
“rehearsal starts soon, i don’t wanna be late.”
yoonchae pauses in the hallway, watching solani disappear into the practice studio. she furrows her eyebrows together, confused; sophia hadn’t sent her, she had genuinely been asking. while yoonchae hasn’t been as closely involved with lani’s struggles as the older girls, she wasn’t stupid. she’d heard solani slip into their apartment in the middle of the night, heard her crying through the wall she shared with sophia. she’d been there when solani refused to eat the other night, watched the plate shatter on the floor. she was there when solani fainted at rehearsals weeks ago, had helped shield the teen from prying eyes after her panic attack at the vmas.
yoonchae hadn’t meant to further upset the younger girl; she was genuinely wondering if lani had eaten.
as if sensing her roommates inner turmoil sophia rounds the corner just then. “you okay, yoonchip?”
yoonchae looks down at her sneakers. “i asked lani if she ate today and she got mad at me.”
“oh.” sophia sighs, slinging an arm around the girls shoulders. “she’s not mad at you, yoonchae. she’s just…missing her mom right now.”
“i know that,” yoonchae looks up at her roommate as they begin down the hall. “i’m just worried.”

hi! i was actually planning on including both of those as full chapters in bth! would you still like the one shot/s or would you rather wait for those chronologically?
꩜ as two of the youngest on dream academy, lani and yoonchae clicked pretty instantly despite the language barrier; they related to each other not being very fluent in english, and bonded over that despite barely being able to talk to one another for most of dream academy.
꩜ for their first birthdays after the finale (dec2023) solani, yoonchae, and sophia had a joint party for their 14th, 16th, and 21st birthdays.
꩜ yoonchae and solani have a secret language between them that they refuse to teach anyone else, including the other girls. it drives megan insane that they won’t tell her.
𖤝 lara was one of solani’s biggest influences when it came to finding her confidence—she constantly complimented and hyped her up, helping her find her style and one that lani truly liked and felt herself in.
𖤝 being a youngest child herself, lara has said she loves solani as if she were her own little sister. solani has said the same—being the oldest back home she loves how the katseye girls feels like having six big sisters.
𖤝 while all of the girls feel protective over solani, lara is extremely cautious and defensive when it comes to her. she’s not afraid to snap back at creepy comments on livestreams or debunk any rumors regarding solani.
🜼 solani is the calmest and quietest in the group... unless she's alone with megan (and even more so when lara joins; their trio together is a guaranteed disaster on livestreams)
🜼 like all the girls, megan really pushes lani out of her comfort zone, especially when it comes to public appearances.
🜼 megan also struggles with anxiety, and has always been very open about it and an advocate for mental health. solani, on the other hand, was never really an anxious child. she developed her anxiety after she moved away and her mom got sick, and it spiraled pretty fast until suddenly she was having severe panic attacks at least once or twice a week. it scared the shit of solani; the first time it happened she genuinely thought she was having a heart attack. megan was a huge help when it came to helping solani identify the triggers, and even more so when she coached solani into actually being willing to admit/confront what was going on (lani’s pride is her greatest weakness)
🜼 megan helped solani become more comfortable and willing when it came to asking for help, and taught her all her tricks for managing anxiety/panic attacks and stressors/triggers. this really brought them closer to one another, especially during their initial debut.
🜼 megan makes lani laugh the most—she once made solani laugh so hard she peed an hour before they needed to be at an interview and she had to switch her entire outfit; it only made her laugh harder and yoonchae had to sit between them in the van.
⚓︎ sophia is solani's comfort person, her safe space. she's mentioned that sophia was one of the first people who made her feel like she didn't have to be resilient all the time & was allowed to let her guard down.
⚓︎ lani subconsciously gravitates towards sophia whenever she’s overwhelmed. if an interviewer oversteps with a question or lani just doesn’t know how to respond, she instinctively looks to sophia & just one look is enough to calm her. sophia just has this calming & maternal nature that solani clings to, especially when overwhelmed.
⚓︎ stages of grief: sophia being the only one able to get solani to admit that she’s not (only) angry, but also scared while in the anger phase of grief.
⚓︎ lani’s grief: solani and sophia currently live together in an apartment, a decision made a few months after lani’s mother passed away & she needed extra support. this worked out well because it was around the time when yoonchae turned 18 and moved into her own apartment.

︎♛ solani was roommates with manon & daniela when they lived in the katseye house, and then briefly shared an apartment with them once they moved. but shortly afterwards solani’s mom passed away, and a few months after that dani & manon decided it’d be in solani’s best interest to move her in with sophia, as both manon & dani had boyfriends in la & were often out, so they worried solani needed extra support & felt guilty about not being home as often. this happens in december 2025, shortly after yoonchae turned 18 and moved into her own place.
︎♛ while live-streaming from their hotel after their performance at sbs inkigayo, seoul in may 2025, manon somehow convinced solani to let her and daniela pierce her ears. it ended up being a whole production, albeit successful in the end; sophia walked in halfway through to manon sitting guiltily beside solani, who had a needle halfway through her ear. the leader was more baffled than anything, seeing as lani is known to be terrified of needles/shots. (somehow this didn’t bother her though???)
︎♛ lani often jokes that the oldest girls, particularly manon & sophia, adopted her when she joined dream academy. manon both instantly soothes her nerves yet also helps get her energy up before performing, making sure she's enjoying the moment instead of overly stressing & getting stuck in her own head.
︎♛ manon makes sure to constantly check in on solani as she knows she'll never admit to being tired or not feeling well.

𖢻 as lani grew up the only girl in her family & her mom worked long hours, she never really learned how to take care of her curls. dani helped her figure out the right routine for her hair, and how to style it; before solani would just shove it all into a bun or ponytail, or just straighten the shit out of it (and miss a ton of pieces bc she never really learned how to do that either)
𖢻 solani was super nervous at the beginning of training as she wasn't very confident with her english abilities yet, but daniela helped her practice and would help translate anything she didn't catch, especially when it came to nikky’s fast-paced shouted corrections.
𖢻 during training dani was the first to treat solani as an equal rather than just the youngest; she didn’t “baby” or condescend, even on accident. she treated solani as competition, like she was just as competent as the rest of the trainees. when a lot of the other older girls learned lani’s age, they gushed or acted surprised, calling her some sort of “prodigy” if she got the staff to bend their age limit rule from 14 to 12. daniela, on the other hand, didn’t make a big deal of it or really say anything at all. she just told solani she was a beat off on the last run-through and helped her correct it.
𖢻 daniela is solani’s biggest style inspiration. when she first came to la for training lani didn’t have much of a style, she mainly just wore leggings & giant hoodies on their off dance and the usual tank top/sports bra with workout shirts or leggings to training. but after getting more comfortable with dani and knowing her more—especially once they started living together in the katseye house—solani pretty much started to copy dani’s style. (dani loves it)
