Starting a new series called A LOGO A DAY. Experimenting with branding design using different medias for experimentation in quick succession. More to come soon. #alogoaday #design #clean #typography #branding #MNR
after playing around with colours i’ve decided to stick with the red white and blue theme for now. This clearly expresses the colours of the french flag and stays visually clean. I am now starting to mess about with the branding and whether to place the full logo or just the icon of the P.
I lighter background brings more focus centrally but the red and blue are clashing too much.
Black and white seems too confusing, the whole translation of what I am trying to do seems lost. yet keeping it black and white makes it more sharp and clean this is something I am going to try and play around with further to get my idea across more better.
I’m trying to experiment with colour a little bit more incorporating the red white and blue of the french flag. I feel it’s not really working well the colours keep classing and fighting each other, also the tone seems maybe too dark and not friendly enough.
Experimenting with typography and language. Part of my La Tarte cafe i’m trying to incorporate well known french phrases as well as into the english language.

Screen Printing
I have always wanted to do screen printing and I have always had the opportunity to, 2 years later since my introduction to it and I have finally done it myself.
It was about 2 weeks ago I was given a quick recap tutorial to the whole methods of screen printing by Hannah and I knew I needed to get some done for myself while I can this year otherwise I would regret it. The process is fairly simple but can get a little complicated if you have never used the equipment before. Firstly you must use a print that you have drawn by hand or rendered on a computer, When you print an image from the computer you must always make sure its black and white (positive/ negative). Ideally printing on acetate makes for better printing because using screens with dry mesh you use UV rays to create the image on the screen. Alternatively you can use normal paper/ tracing paper and we use vegetable oil to make the paper transparent.
After we put the screen inside the UV machine to create the negative of the image we wash off the mesh that we will not use to create the negative space of the image. After that we let the screen dry then proceed to printing. The printing process is fairly easy, putting acrylic paint with some special solution (50/50) which is then slapped onto the screen on a screen sprinting press with you selected paper underneath and using a squeegee you push down and pretty much squeeze the paint through the screen to create what seems like a stamp affect. The print usually is very clean and precise like the original image as intended and I think when you get to experiment further this method is actually much better than actually printing on paper.
After my tutorial recap I came back 2 weeks later to try it myself with my own designs that I've always wanted to see screen printed. I chose some artwork I did last year, one is an illustration from last year and the other is a vector illustration of a brain I did last year, both are slightly detailed but I used the oil on paper method for the tracing and UV light exposure. After a few prints on newsprint paper I decided to have a go and print one of my illustrations on to a t shirt, the results were quite remarkable because it was so sharp and clean yet I could repeat this a few times if I wanted to.
Overall I am very pleased with this process it's reliable, cheap and fun. I hope to experiment further and try out different prints, with some different designs and using other colours and various papers. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind getting a bit messy.
