Cedar-clad cabins on a forested hill in Minnesota by HGA
Hemmelig Rom Studio Padron
Hemmelig Rom is a collaboration with Studio Padron. Translating to “Secret Room”, the monolithic black form recedes into the surrounding forest during certain seasons and lighting conditions. Its foreboding exterior hides a more welcoming experience: a warm, silent interior library, constructed from 12,000lbs of red oak milled on the property. The massive volume of wood becomes a heatsink, storing energy from the single cast-iron stove to allow the temperature to self-regulate. Guests are invited to leave a private message in one of the 2,500 books on the shelves.

The Ex House by GARCIAGERMAN Architects (via)
Amazing timber frame both inside and out. The concrete hearth goes so well with the natural wood. All from the studios of Aidlin Darling Design. Click through for a look at their talent.
Martis Camp House Faulkner Architects
"The south facing site sits at the edge of an evergreen forest where it meets a spring fed creek at the base of an ancient volcano turned ski mountain. Years of flooding have exposed volcanic boulders that cover the site. The house inhabits the boulder field organized as a directional built landscape consisting of three layered bars staggered along a 140’ long insulated concrete wall. The wall registers the plan and reinforces the edge-like feeling of the site."
