We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Vidar, the Norse God of Forest, Revenge and Silence. He is the MPPD Chief and Council Member
IN CHARACTER
FC NAME/GROUP: Zhang Xincheng/Steven Zhang – Actor/Solo GOD NAME: Vidar PANTHEON: Norse OCCUPATION: Mount Phoenix Police Department Chief/Norse Pantheon Council Member HEIGHT: Unknown WEIGHT: Unknown DEFINING FEATURES: Silence/Mutism; stoic expression; black leather boots seemingly worn at all times, with one appearing subtly different from the other with a bark-like texture as though stitched in fragments; weathered long coat with a high collar that appears dark green in sunlight only and black in any other light with edges that are worn by time, not ragged, with fabric demonstrating a subtle conifer needle-type pattern; a steady and unreadable gaze with eyes the color of dark, rich soil; the scent of a pine forest after heavy rain
PERSONALITY: If Thor is thunder and force, then Vidar is the forest after the storm – quiet, unbroken, and still standing. He prefers the quiet, prefers being surrounded by the forest or the silent stillness of the forgotten corners of a library. While he does not use his speak verbally, his silence says more than what he signs or writes. Messages are generally short, precise, and final. Some individuals may find themselves so in tune with his energy that words are completely unnecessary, but regardless, his silence forces others to slow down, to listen, to become aware. He never announces himself, he does not need to, and yet the world seems to quiet upon his presence and everyone seems to know somethinghas changed. Vidar radiates the impression of someone who has been already standing there for a very long time, even if he had just arrived. Every movement made holds a specific purpose, not even the slightest shift is wasted or unintentional.
His stare is unreadable, never an unnecessary blink, an expression that is neutral – not cold, just complete – with a gaze that makes others feel seen but not judged, understood but not comforted. Some tend to forget he is there unless he acts, a shadow that isn’t quite registered until it moves. Some find him frightening and unsettling, others find his presence comforting … or, at the very least, inexplicably familiar.
As the chief of police, Vidar is the final authority when things escalate, when containment fails, when negotiations break down, when something … ancient .. awakens; others might handle the chaos, but Vidar handles the moment the chaos must end.
HISTORY: The universe was composed of cycles. Ragnarök was not the only Ragnarök. In fact, Vidar had experienced countless ends and new beginnings. When Ragnarök ended, the old world was broken; many gods were gone … but Vidar remained – not as a conqueror, not as a ruler, but as something quieter …
… a witness.
Time and time again, he avenged his father, destroyed Fenrir, watched as the catastrophe unfolded and imploded … while loved ones died and few survived, as he and his brother were among the handful of deities left to begin again while others were eventually reborn. Each time, he walked the ruined world – forests regrowing over the ashes, silence where thunder once roared, time stretching forward again. Yet again, vengeance had been completed; Vidar no longer had a war to fight, so he found a new purpose, a new fight … he shifted from avenger … to preserver.
Vidar became a guardian of what survives, a watcher of cycles restarting, a force that ensures destruction does not spiral again … at least, not too quickly. Human civilizations grew, new pantheons rose in influence, belief systems seemed to intertwine and supernatural beings began overlapping, migrating, engaging in conflicts … but not to Ragnarök-levels of destruction, oh no, but more constant and smaller instabilities.
Mount Phoenix had already existed for quite some time before he finally decided to take his place among its ranks, having been waiting patiently until the time came for him to step in as chief of police. He had already recognized the patterns of the oncoming storm, the tensions between demigods, unstable supernatural activities, the echoes of chaos stirring in the wind – so he came not out of duty … but out of inevitability. Others enforce the rules, but Vidar enforces the outcomes. He had already started his journey when he received a call – one simple and direct call – because Vidar was impartial, because he did not seek power, because he could not be manipulated through rhetoric, because he was the one who ended things when they must end. Mount Phoenix – the very name of it was fitting enough: rebirth through fire, and Vidar was what remained after the flames died.
When not at headquarters or assisting with Council duties, Vidar can usually be found in the forests and mountains of the island, preferring the quiet as opposed to the hustle and bustle (translation: NOISE) of the city. When in doubt, find him at his cabin in the woods …
POWERS: Absolute Stillness and Silence – Sound dampens then disappears, the wind dies, movement feels heavy and resisted, even magic becomes harder to express, chaos falls into quiet and opponents are met with the feeling that they are moving through deep water Floral Dominion – Command of roots, branches and bark; able to grow wood structures instantly; reshapes trees into barriers, restraints, and weapons. Wooden Constructs – Forms weapons from nearby wood (staves, spears, cages); creates temporary guardians like wooden golems; reinforces structures instantly. Indomitable Presence – A being defined by survival and inevitability, Vidar cannot be staggered or knocked back; immune to fear, illusion, and other forms of mental manipulation; continues forward regardless of damage or injury; cannot be stopped, only delayed. The Left Boot – No ordinary shoe, the boot of legend is one of his defining features; an anchor of reality, when he steps down, space stabilizes; entities are pinned or immobilized even when standing on their shadow; it is as though gravity obeys HIM locally. Presence Erasure – Not necessarily invisible, just … not perceived, as though his presence escapes detection unless he wants to be seen or is explicitly sought after; other gods are immune to this power, however, given the strength of his inevitable aura. Infallible Patience and Endurance – The ability to wait indefinitely without fatigue, to perceive long-term patterns most others miss. Physical Empowerment – Known to be one of the strongest among the Aesir, Vidar’s physical strength comes in secondary only to his brother Thor, though Vidar’s own strength increases along with his determination and thirst for vengeance; he also holds the capability of ‘blessing’ those with a powerful drive for revenge, increasing their own physical capabilities and, at times, amplifying their own powers.
STRENGTHS: Silence, listening, perception, endurance, resilience WEAKNESSES: Headstrong, fixated, vengeful, meticulous, calculating
