misty dawn is the youngest daughter of the morrow family, a girl of romance novels, record players, and satin pink. her heart is far too big for her body — too soft, too full. but in the morrow family, a heart is only good for one thing: the dinner table. the morrows have a secret. not that there’s much need for secrecy, not deep in the mountains of appalachia. when girls go missing out here, folks blame the bears, the wildcats, the folktales passed down to keep children from wandering too far. not a family of bloodthirsty redneck cannibals. but that’s been the truth ever since claudine morrow — or 'mama,' as she’s mostly called — decided terror and pain were the only way to keep a home. misty doesn’t take part in the slaughter of those unlucky enough to end up on the farm, but she’s not immune to the stains it leaves behind. her brother, ray — 'rebel,' as he insists on calling himself — has their mother’s blood in his veins and the rage of a wildfire coursing through him. he leaves bodies in his wake, along with scars that never heal. misty is one of his favorite things to break. whether it's locking her away for days or forcing her to watch the light fade from a victim’s eyes, the horrors of the morrow farmhouse have carved themselves into her bones. and even if the day comes when she finally escapes, a life soaked in blood never truly lets go.
