Why We Made Moxie

Over 9 months ago Kyle and I were sitting in a coffee shop talking about building a photo storage app. Somehow the conversation diverted to Kyle's real passion: mobile photography. Actually, more like mobile creativity. A year prior, Kyle had released a photo blending app called Pictwo. Through people's use of Pictwo he got an inside view into the world of mobile art. People weren't just slapping a preset filter onto their photo. He found that there are people who want to take their photos further than the canned filters Instagram and other apps provide.   That's how the idea for Moxie was born. We wanted to create a tool that allowed everyone to be creative. In Moxie, the creativity starts when you take your photo instead of ending there.   Your willingness to experiment with different textures and add layers is what makes your Moxie a unique piece of art. Other users can see your stack of layers and even reuse those layers on their own photos. This is where the 'everyone is creative' concept comes in to play. We want to make Moxie easy enough for anyone to make beautiful piece of art. With Moxie, we've merged creativity with social tools. We want to create a place where mobile artists and their 'fans' can create art together. Everyone has seen these artists on Instagram. What they create is nothing short of amazing. I know I personally have spent hours scrolling through people's profiles admiring their artwork. I'll be honest, we aren't sure yet how Moxie will look in three months, six months, or even next month. What we do know is that we want it to be the spot where creative people can share their work and let others see how they made it and even collaborate. Whether they know it or not, everyone is creative and mobile art is a great form of creative expression. By breaking down any barriers and allowing people to not have to start from scratch we are building confidence and allowing people to explore creativity that they never knew they had.
