The sonic blast ability is something that most titans develop pre-puberty, to protect them from larger threats when they’re young. It’s a blast of raw magic expelled from the Titan’s mouth, and can come in a wide variety of colors, always the same as the Titan’s “base magic” color.
Above the vocal cords is a pouch designed to contain raw magic, which will fill naturally. The shape of the blast is the same as the shape of the exit hole of this pouch. With enough vocal force, this pouch will be pushed open and the sonic scream will be released.
Titans are able to reach vocal decibels much higher than a human, and their sonic screams can be very dangerous, capable of not only breaking objects, but bursting organs and even bodies at the right sound levels. It is crucial for titans to be able to control their sonic screams properly, so that they don’t hurt themselves or others on accident.
Titans usually unlock their glyphs beginning around puberty. Every Titan has a unique glyph set and combinations, and they are not inherited from parents. Titans cannot use circle magic, so spells can become extremely complicated chains, some taking years or even decades to fully decode.
How glyph patterns are decided is not entirely clear, but it may be related to their personality. Glyphs are not always unlocked in the same order, but less energy-taxing spells, like the basic light glyph, are commonly the first to be found. Titan magic is “leaky” and will spread around the area that a Titan lives in over time, leaving glyphs everywhere. Even after death, Titan magic can persist for potentially millions of years in the air and ground.
All base glyphs have certain “criteria” to meet to count as that glyph type, so base glyphs cannot swap meanings. Even across many different titans, certain symbols and design cues remain similar in the base glyphs.
Titan blood is magically potent, but portals are rare. Portal-making is a difficult skill for titans to master, and can take decades to perform properly. Although it is possible to make a portal without using the blood of a skilled Titan, it would take very, very much, at least a body’s worth. It is also completely unnecessary, since titans can make portals without painful bloodshed.
Titan blood’s magical potency has made it a desirable potion ingredient, but this is highly dangerous. The blood will often explode on contact with other magical, heated substances, as if it were hot oil, and would produce similarly grisly injuries.
Within the blood of Titans is four compounds that allow them to use magic, and make their blood blue. The binding of the first three compounds is what allows enough magic production to use sonic screams, but the binding of the fourth to the others allows for glyph usage and accelerates puberty. Titans have reinforced veins and arteries designed to handle the damaging power of magic, keeping them powerful well into old age.
Titans are resistant to most magic types, including witch/demon magic, and archivist magic. They will begin repelling these magics usually around the time of unlocking their sonic shouts, but won’t become totally unaffected until a while into unlocking glyphs.
Despite this resistance, they are quite sensitive to each other’s magic, able to normally affect each other without issue. Their magic is very “social” and will easily interact with that of another Titan’s. Some of these interactions are the only ways to make certain spells possible. Spells and screams can mix and match in all kinds of ways. Since every Titan has unique glyphs, and unique combinations of them, there are billions of possible spells that they can create together.
