Normally, she was so sure footed. Skadi could walk on snow tops in blizzards and across frozen ice lakes - and yet, here she was. Knocked off guard by the rush of a few students trying to find a table amidst the cafe. Perhaps it was because her focus had been on the clearing of tables she was a smidge behind on, but if only to make matters worse she’d ended up in a patron’s lap! Apologies hadn’t explained the sorries that had leaked from her lips at him as her head turned, and blue eyes met brown staring back at her in high amusement. She was rather glad he found the situation so amusing, rather than snapping at her for something that was ill her fault. 

“I’m rather well, sir, thank you.” Skadi’s voice was gentle, soft - a mere whisper on the wind as she tilted her head slightly, a curtain of blonde framing her features. It was a brief moment of study on the God she was sure she hadn’t seen around before, as that voice she’d be sure she would recognize. Slowly, Skadi lifted from his lap, anchoring with his hand to help steady herself on her feet again as she bent, offering a small bow of her head in apology and respect. “Forgive my sudden intrusion, Mister--?” Fishing for a name, how original Skadi.

Skadi winced slightly at the hiss from her friend, sighing softly as she cupped another handful of the cool water and gently dripped it over the wound to clear away the mess of dirt and blood. After having done this herself several times before - she’d learned the ropes of self sustaining wounds. Her blues flickered between the Goddess and the job she was tending to, pulling a gauze wrap free from her satchel of supplies to begin gently wrapping the wound. “I probably should have warned you there’s still wildlife in this forest. I’ve cleared most of them back a certain range, but sometimes they slip through. My apologies, Artie.” 

At the mention of eating snake, the winter goddess snickered and gave off a whistle. The sound of foliage crunching sounded as the two reddish brown dogs appeared, one dragging the head of the animal in it’s jaws, the other the tail. “Rune and Runa seem to agree with you. They even brought you your kill.” Skadi chuckled slightly and finished tying off the bandage, leaning over to clean her hands off in the river’s water. “If nothing else, you’ve got an interesting story to take back with you. The python that fell to the hands of the mighty Artemis.~”

“Where’s the fun in practice arrows when, according to you, I can never get your guard down enough to hurt you?” Oh payback was a bitch, wasn’t it? After all the time’s Ares had bragged of never letting his guard down, his sparring partner had for just a fraction of a second to get her shot in. Literally. Skadi willed the bow back into the quiver strapped to her back, making her way closer to come to stand beside him. Fingers lightly examining the wound on his arm, an all too amused smirk on her features at his scowl. “What are you, a big baby Ares? This is nothing compared to wounds you’ve had before. Probably won’t even scar.~”  The blonde goddess snickered quietly to herself as she pulled back and tore a shred of cloth from the ends of her shirt, baring her midrift now as she brought it up to tie around the gash she’d made on his arm. “Besides - would you rather the one wound, or to slowly get more and more pissed off with every blunt arrow I hit you with? I think this is the better option, plus it reminds you you’re alive, right?” Blues sparkled up at him mischeviously as she finished the final knot a bit harder than intended.

All was quiet in the Night Owl’s Cafe tonight. For once the pups had been left home to rest after their arduous hunt that day’s morning, and the Goddess found the ease of the night weighing heavily on her lids. Body relaxed into the counter that separated her from the rest of the establishment, finger gently trailing the lines of the printed book that held her attention for the time being. One of the things Skadi loved more than anything to be able to do here at the shop was scour through these earth stories that have been gifted over time to the world. She wondered the thought process behind them all, what it was that possibly drew them into existence - as every one she picked up the goddess would lose herself in from beginning to end. 

This night particular she was lost in some romance novel she’d plucked from the shelves. Nearly half-way through it’s contexts already. What else was there to do when there were no customers and nothing well to do? And as the time ticked on her eyes heavily fell closed until they rested lightly, head perched onto her hand that was propped up onto the counter for the time being. The dream of the goddess was vivid; like a distant daydream that echoed through her mind. She was back in Thrymheim. The snow was beautifully pearlescant and untouched by any. Wolves howled, there was norse banter sounding off in the distance. Her Father’s hall as she remembered it. 

A faint chime sounded across the plains, drawing the goddess’ attention from one direction to the other. Deep into the snowstorm spiralling in the distance. From it’s depths emerged a deep light. Bright, warm, comforting....familiar. Her hand reached for it, as a shape began to take hold - a smile creasing through she had not forgotten no matter how many years it had been. And suddenly, it was gone. The door of the establishment sounded, startling the Goddess from her light slumber. Skadi sat up straight and glanced around frantically, in search of what she’d lost.  Once more - just out of reach. “Baldur...”

[ diary ] receiver writes a journal entry about sender

How many times can one write ‘far too sunshiney’ without being repetitive? I joke. Well, mostly. The warmth she gives off can be a bit much, but she wouldn’t be Sol without it. She’s friendly, and kind. And the world needs more of that. Not the gods, dear me no. We will never learn, no matter how old we grow. But Sol, the world needs more sunshine. Or it will perish to it’s own darkness. And as much as the warmth can be suffocating; to be Sol’s friend is worth it. At least, to me. It’s been a long time since I’ve had such company, and I wish I could thank her for reminding me of what I’ve been missing.

“You really didn’t need to stop by, Hodr.” Skadi mused with a half smile, examining the cards folded into her fingers. Her eyes drifted over the counter towards the familiar deity, the smile growing on her face as she picked a card and set it down. A simple game of goldfish that had seemingly lasted for what felt like hours now. The Night’s Owl was rather slow tonight - and thought to most she wouldn’t admit it, she was grateful for the company that wasn’t a four legged furrball. All four of which rested on their pillow beds behind the counter with her.  “I appreciate the company, though. I could get used to this.” Folding her hand down, she turned her cards face down to the counter top, reaching for her mug to lift it to her lips and drink a warm sip of the brew. “I sometimes miss the mead. But, coffee works as a close second.”

“What will you make, with your catch?” The hunt would never go to waste between these two goddesses. And when Artemis and Skadi teamed up, they tended to end up with more than they very well needed. A friendly competition that always ended well for those who ended up stuffed with whatever delectable dish they ended up concocting. Of course, chunks of it would end up in the pup’s bowls for their role in the hunts; but most of it was simply being packaged for easy travel back towards the city for the other.  “Something as beautiful as last time? That curry was delicious.~ I can still taste it to this day.” The blonde slipped from the bloodied table to the sink, rinsing and washing her hands off. Skadi glanced over her shoulder at Artemis and smiled warmly, taking up a towel to dry her hands off when she was done. “Care for a drink to relax from the exercise?”
