Top Ten Reasons Why I Love CHUCK and Why You Will Too!
The Music - The OC’s creator Josh Schwartz infused that show with some wicked indie tunes to help mellow out the melodrama whilst providing a brilliant musical portrayal of the characters and plot. He’s certainly done it here again with this show, only this time with the added bonus of fight-scenes where he’s able to amp up the action-comedy.
Jeffster - What nerdy show doesn’t need a couple of sleezy, ill-advised morons to help spice things up? Plus they have their own sleazy rock band. These two are always a highlight.
General Beckman - It takes a while for Beckman to venture out from her Charlie-esque role, but one certain scene involving a bazooka was just simply awesome. I love her long time.
Ellie and Awesome Woodcomb - Ellie is effervescent and Captain Awesome (named because he thinks everything is awesome and he does awesome things like skydiving, rockclimbing and brain surgery…) is one of those characters that really should be bland and boring, but is actually, well, Awesome.
Slapstick Comedy - Many shows feature slapstick comedy, but how many have had a chase scene within a Gravitron? Or how many have their hero lose his towel while he… dangles… off a balcony? Chuck’s actor Zac Levi is a tall, lanky fella with knack for stuffing up, like when he shot his first gun… ‘Nuff said…
Eye-Roll Worthy AND Fist-Pump Worthy Plot Points - The show isn’t without it’s cheese, but neither was Buffy, and look how brilliant that was. Chuck mixes the cheese with the awesome action which ultimately makes it a really funny show.
The Buy More-ons - The show is mainly set at a department store called Buy More, were the ugliest, sloppiest, dullest employees work… But f**k me do they have a great time, deciding things like Managerial positions in a cage-match in the back of the store’s warehouse. These losers are so loveable for their crapness that the moment you see them “reclaim Buy More” you automatically cheer for them, this is their home, no one else’s VIVA BUY MORIA!
The Guest Stars - Almost everybody from Sci-Fi/Action/Horror: Robert England, Summer Glau, Kristin Kreuk, Nicole Ritchie, Timothy Dalton, Michael Clake Duncan, Chevy Chase, Mark Hamill, Tony Todd, Tony Hale, Rachel Bilson, Brandon Routh, Dolph Lundgren, Linda Hamilton, Morgan Fairchild, Dominic Monaghan, Andy Richter, Jenny McCarthy, Vinnie Jones, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Robert Patrick, Fred Willard, Swoosie Kurtz, Christopher Lloyd (and in another episode Chuck and Morgan bought a Delorean…), Lou Ferringo (original HULK), Lou Diamond Phillips and despite Chuck having a poster on his wall of the movie TRON, it’s star Bruce Boxleitner has also guest starred… Among many other cult/genre/popular actors…
The Character Dynamics - Especially any time Morgan and Casey are on screen together. Plus Chuck and Morgan’s friendship reigning o'er everything…
And the best thing about Chuck? JOHN. CASEY. He is the man you want to have standing right next to you, breathing down and looking down at you grunting.
But mostly I just love it because the dialogue is effing hilarious! “Casey’s got cabin fever, he hasn’t shot anyone in over two weeks” LAWL.
If you give this show a chance, it will grow on you and you will love it long time. I promise.
