âOf course I did, what kind of friend do you take me for?â She placed a hand on her chestâfeigning offense. âBut if you stayed in New Orleans for a bit longer things might have started to get blurry.â Taking a drink of her own coffee, she watched the small display of magic. While she had gotten better at containing her outward excitement, it was still fascinating to see magic being used so casually. âDid the trip go well?â
âI couldnât tell you the last time I did that.â It seemed like her life had become a steady schedule of work, home, workâvery little room for play. Outside of the occasional trip to Central Park with Grace, anyway. âIf you continue to be that easy to impress, Iâll be sure to tone it down on the birthday present this year too.â
âYou say that like it would be an awful thing.â She replied, taking another small drink of her coffee, shoulders rising and falling in a shrug. âBesides, youâre overdue for one. Not that Iâm keeping tabs or anything.â
He gave a small chuckle and took another sip of his coffee. It was nice, the simple things in life. Coffee. Friends. Memories. It was something he often thought about before sleeping at night. âAs well as it could have gone, yes. My father seems more settled and my mother seems calmer. My brother, Topher is with them now⊠I just wish there was more I could do for them, you know?â He said innocently.
Jay smirked cheerfully and cupped the coffee in his hands, embracing the warmth. âI hope itâs a puppy.â He joked playfully. âDonât worry, I already have plans for your birthday present. All I need is a big bow to wrap it all together with.â He teased.
Jaheem didnât need another command, he got up slowly and walked over to her, throwing his arms a wide around her and bringing her into a nice, tight hug. âKeeping tabs on my hugs? Now, that is cold.â He joked once again as he pulled away.
