– Beast Fighting Ring in Carson City
POINTS REQUIRED: Two Hundred
Beast fighting is a practice banned in the United States, and has been since 1942. However, “Sentient Beast Fighting Rings” are still allowed by MACUSA law, as its deemed that a fully sentient beast such as a giant, troll, werewolf, or vampire, can voluntarily participate in matches such as a human fighter, and they are within their own right to do so as long as the health of the fighters are put into consideration. It is one of these very fighting rings, operated out of Carson City, Nevada that has recently been brought to MACUSA’s attention for potentially violating MACUSA’s laws and regulations when it comes to operating a sentient beast fighting ring.
“The Old Cannery” is a sentient beast fighting ring that has been operating out of Carson City for the last forty years. Currently run by siblings, Hektor and Cleo Welch, the fighting ring is frequented by wixes from throughout the Pacific Coast, all eager to earn some coin while watching beasts of varying backgrounds go head to head in brutal and death defying matches. Per MACUSA law, the fighting ring is routinely inspected by the Body for the Protection of Magical Species, and in its run has so far passed every inspection, receiving only small citations regarding the facility’s cleanliness and the education of the healers on site.
It was just recently though that one of the ring’s fighters, a vampire by the name of Jasper McDonough, came forward with the claim that not all of the sentient beasts who fight in the ring are doing so voluntarily, and that he witnessed on several occasion werewolves being brought in in strange runed collars on nights where there wasn’t a full moon, as well as chupacabras (who due to their nature are unable to give their consent to fight). McDonough’s claims were investigated by Magical Species, as well as by an employee of the Werewolf Relations Offices, but so far no evidence has been found. McDonough continues to insist however, that foul play is a foot, and after getting the recommendation of Werewolf Relations, the case has been transferred over to the Pacific Squad.
Jasper McDonough: Jasper has a rather strange and storied history with the Department of Aurors. He was an auror himself for the department back in the early 1880′s, prior to his being bitten. At the time he was considered a well regarded auror and held the rank of inspector for the infamous but since retired “Western Frontier Squad”. Shortly after being bitten, he would abandon his post as auror, and fall off of MACUSA’s radar for some time. Due to his past experience with law enforcement and with numerous fighting arenas, his word is one most MACUSA official’s trust, but the issue has been that there’s been little evidence to back it up.
Marleigh McMahon: Part of the reason why this case has even found its way to the Pacific Squad is due to the help of McMahon. They, along with three other employees of the Body for the Protection of Magical Species, conducted an investigation into the fighting ring in question, but were unable to find any evidence to support McDonough’s claims. McMahon, however, does believe McDonough’s claims hold enough weight to be investigated fully by a team of aurors, and sent in the official request for the case to be picked up by the squad.
Hektor and Cleo Welch: The siblings who own and operate “The Old Cannery”. The Welches are currently unaware of the exact reasons behind the investigation, and as far as they know the investigation done by Magical Species was part of a routine inspection. The Welches are not unknown by the Department of Aurors, as both have a rap sheet within the system, with crimes ranging from petty theft to exotic beast smuggling. The last crime either was convicted of was ten years ago.
If McDonough is to be believed, then we have a very grave situation at hand here, one involving several individuals likely being held against their will. Try to be as discreet as you can when investigating the arena itself and its owners, the last thing we want them to know right now is that we may be onto them. If you should like concealments, I’ve alerted Trixie that you may need their assistance.
Of course it’d be McMahon. Tell that asshole I said hi, yeah? And that they better not skip out on my next party, or else I’ll quit inviting them.
