Would you?âŠ
Hisoka chuckled as response, knowing that his statements made the boy angrier, to deny him of the truth. But he wouldnât push anyone to that path without knowing if it was worth the pain and torture that followed. Also, he had no interests to share that so easily. If he wanted to know, he would have to find by himself and then he would reveal a little more; but for now he would play his usual tricks.
He reached for one of the cards, golden eyes set on the male as he brushed the index fingertip on it, imbuing it with a Nen technique called Shu which altered the properties of the material into similar of a steel dagger. He expertly threw the card to an empty chair, slicing it in half. The card reached the wall, stuck on it. The aura soon faded, returning it to its average properties.
Maybe you need to look better.âŁ
He remained silent for three good minutes, simply focusing his attention on the cards. Though if the jester was observant enough he should notice his hands were not precisely calm, actually vibrating slightly. He loathed above all things people that questioned his knowledge. Some things were not worth researching, one of them was that specific area. Entertainment. How ridiculous and mundane.
He just noted how he rubbed his own card between his fingers, first of all associating the friction to something- but what? Either answer would have been dissipated by the impulsive behavior he displayed. His eyes didnât miss how that chair had been empty ever since he arrived, and how quickly the damn card sliced it in half. Takatora soon felt his blood boiling with rage, even if his expression was cold, nearly immobile. How? Did someone cut the chair and left it there to surprise newcomers? Even then... He hated to doubt his own logic.
âI touched those cards myself... There wasnât a single one different from the others. It couldnât have escaped me...â Slowly, he left a few bills on his table and turned around, ready to make some investigations by himself before demanding the truth. He wouldnât depend on a foolâs bribery... âI assume that you just had this set to trick the short minded individuals, jester. But you canât fool me. Iâll learn that trick of yours, even if it takes me months... And Iâll show you that this is all fantasy.â
Asakura had no time to dawdle with a kid like him. He was boring, snotty and thought that he cared about his status and more. He didnât care for anything like that, but survival and fun, and he wasnât being useful for any of those.
He grabbed him from the collar and pulling him close, face to face. His eyes deep on him with an annoyed stare. He was hungry and he wouldnât eat dirt again. He would do whatever to get a decent meal even if he had to beat the kid for his money.
âIâm not asking you again. The wallet. Now.â He hissed. It was in his best interests to not displease him any further.
Once the older man seemed to lift him like he was made of cotton, he furrowed his brows and wrinkled his nose with disdain. Not even once in his life heâd received such treatment, much less being looked in the eye with hatred that almost materialized between them. That must have been what he thought... Yet he couldnât be further from the truth... What a dull man he was, in that case. But- if his life was endangered, then he wasnât in the best of places to argue.
âTch... You know well where it is, so take it yourself. If you intend me to give it to you... then itâs useless. If you want money, you need to do something in return. Itâs called working. You can take my wallet and gain nothing, or beat a few assholes for me and go home with your hands full of cash... The choice is yours, now.âÂ
âI am not giving you my wallet. What are you, a broke singer from the seventies that wants to have some glory by robbing a Togami? I donât have cash on me, and you canât use my cards in the commonerâs supermarkets. Now, out of my way.â
The male chuckled by the scientific explanation about his tricks with his playing cards. Certainly, the qualities he appointed were true, but the cards were nothing normal ones, and he wouldnât mind to give him a small demonstration. The male pulled the deck of cards from thin air then placed it on the table, giving him a small nod as permission for him to check the cards.
Youâre free to look as much as you want. But I can assure you that my magic tricks donât involve any smoke or mirrorsâŁ
What was so amusing about his explanation that he thought it was a good idea to laugh? Or was it part of his performance? Either way, he didnât care as long as he got the answers he needed. If there was a new material yet unexplored... he could always use it. Slowly, he approached the small table an stretched a hand, first of all running his fingers on the surface of his favorite card, the Ace of Spades. Taking the card between his fingers, he bit the inside of his cheek with irritation. It was... slightly disappointing to see it was just laminated cardboard. The weight of the paper was the regular, and the print quality was questionable... Probably produced years before the jester was born.
However, as he said the word âmagicâ, he couldnât help but to smirk with some insolence, though nothing too malicious. Looking back at him, he decided to handle the full deck between his slender hands. âHeh... Is that so? It seems to me these are just... plain cards. But... magic. Magic doesnât exist. Thereâs skill, of course. Undeniable skill, I might say. But... You canât fool me. If there was magic in this world... I think I would know.â
It always seemed that Takatora was overly confident, and considering that they were not only family, but that Zeus was his elder⊠He figured he should at least try acting the part. Attempting to maintain the cool air of a Togami was no easy matter for a man quite as neurotic as Zeus⊠But dammit he would give it his best try. Smiling warmly at the brunetteâs nonchalant greeting, Zeus nodded in return before folding his arms over his chest.
The anxious heir was beyond flattered to learn that his cousin valued his opinion to such an extent as to ask for feedback on his ideas. âMm-mm? H-heh⊠Interesting. So you want to run your prototype proposal by me? Of course, Takatora. Would you like to step into my office? We can discuss over coffee or tea if youâd like.â
Much to his surprise, he wasnât greeted with cold words. He was surprisingly kind for a Togami... but didnât give an impression of someone that you could easily manipulate. Quite the opposite... Zeus had a good impact on people, and he could tell at first glance that he could be as strict as his father if he wanted. Like the person who could offer you a hand in times of need... but someone who could also make sure you regret your mistakes. Hoping he wasnât mad about his car anymore, he smiled.
âYou think itâs interesting?! Thatâs... Mm. Thatâs new. Chronus laughed his ass off when I told him- my mistake, of course... And father thinks itâs still too soon to come up with those things. Well... As a Togami, I know we must excell in everything. But it means weâre also constantly targeted... Eh?! You got your own office?!â Blinking with surprise, he took a moment before nodding eagerly. âYeah, sure! Um... Itâll have to be tea, Zeus. Iâm afraid that you might dislike what Iâm about to say... But I loathe coffee.â
âMm? Surrounded by hearts, ya say~? Thaâs certainly interestingââŠ~â Trailing off the moment he started going on about his car, he felt himself go pale. The knot in his stomach that had begun to well as time passed only now resurfaced.Â
âNot safe to⊠F⊠List was sâpposed ta pick me up fifteen minutes ago. She⊠Ainâ been textinâ⊠I⊠Fuck!â Not even bothering to end the conversation, he allowed the phone to drop from his hand. He had no idea where she could be⊠But the thought that something terrible had happened wouldnât leave his mind. He took off at full speed down his driveway. He would run as fast as he could in the direction of her house⊠All he could do was hope she had taken the usual route⊠and that by some luck the car had just broken down on its own.
He didnât need more explanations to find out what had happened. She took his car. Feeling her pressure levels rising dangerously, he leaned against one of the pillars downstairs before air left his body with a dizzy sensation. It just felt so damn wrong, he thought he was about to pass out right there. There was a small chance she wouldnât push that damn button- too slim, however. She wouldnât be one to know his car had been modified recently... Hell. She didnât know what his car really looked like under normal circumstances.
Swallowing hard, he clenched his teeth and exhaled before his knuckles cracked furiously. He felt powerless... She was never late to a meeting with that imbecile, much to his dismay. âFuck.â Quickly dialing the emergency number, he grabbed his helmet and the keys of his motorcycle. If something had happened to his sister, he would never forgive himself.Â
âMm? T-takatora?â Coughing into his sleeve to alleviate his nervous stuttering, he straightened his back to firm his resolve. âMm. Itâs me. Did you need something?â
âYeah, itâs me.â He simply nodded as a short greeting, noting his voice changed considerably after coughing. Smiling softly, he shrugged while sliding his hands inside his pockets. âTruth be told... Iâve been working on a new project lately. Ever since I touched your car- thing I now regret, Iâve been implementing in my new car a panic button for extreme situations. Of course, itâs still developing, and right now I left my car almost assembled at home. But I was wondering if I could tell you my premise, and you could give me some feedback- at least on the prototype idea.â
â⊠How thâ fuck did ya get this number, dickhead? Nd thâ hell is it ya want from me?â
âSheâs got it written down on her agenda, father has Zeusâ number on his phone, and so do I. I know itâs different, it doesnât take half a genius to guess this was your number... Especially because it was grossly surrounded by a heart. But I need answers, Anus. Why did you take my car? If my sister is with you, you better stop that car and use your own. Father told me to only work with my own stuff, and it was in the workshop this morning- By this, I mean that itâs not safe to drive it until Iâm done. Just... Stop the fucking thing and get away from it.â
⊠Where thâ hell is sheâŠ
She didnâ reply tâ my las three texâs⊠Maybe she fell âsleepâŠ
âHe better answer his fucking phone... Tch. Pick up, douchebag.â
Where is my car?
...
Oh, fuck.
âIâve always wanted to ask you... Why do your cards seem slightly different from normal ones? If they were of the same cardboard as any, they would move differently between your hands. Of course, you make them seem surprisingly light, but I can tell theyâre... strangely heavy to be made of simple cardboard. They wouldnât bend that much... Not without them remaining intact.â
Mm. I guess I could as well be the next Super High School Level Perfection... I am more than a perfect body, though. I am a perfect mind. A genius. It seems those petty tittles are not as grand. I need something bigger... Like an explosion. Yes. But- What kind of thing should I blow up next?Â
// Funfact: Takatora isnât as tall as his father, or his cousin. And he really hates it.
âAh... Could it be... Zeus? Is that you?â
Togami couldnât help but to chuckle at his attitude. Cocky and imposing. He did a great job with it but he lacked something. Real life experience and when that came, it would strike him like a freight train. âYes. Youâre exceptional. But also young and impulsive which is not a good combination.â
The male patted his shoulder, placing his serious stare on him. His eyes were cold, almost trying to pierce him with his stare as the grip on his shoulder was slightly tighter. âYes. I do want to take care of your sister. But as well, I donât want you to cut her liberties because of it. She may do wrong things, but she has to. Itâs part of living. When I say to take care of her I mean you help her in her way, not block her; and I will ask the same to her.â
âYoung and impulsive... Those sound like the adjectives you would use to describe mother when you married her, am I right? And you still believe sheâs great.â Shruggin, the simply opted to laid back against his seat and place a cigarrette between his lips. Odds were he would tell him to turn it off right away, but he wouldnât waste the chance of possibly getting away with it.
âH-hey, I got it. Donât get too serious about it. It gives me the creeps when you start getting intense about something. Like... When I asked you to show me some good music to listen... That one time was freaky.â Quickly clearing his throat, he nodded and let air exhale through his nostrils. âHeh... It canât be helped. Sheâs already doing wrong things with him, Iâm afraid. Or maybe not. I donât know for sure... Mm. So I canât go into her room when sheâs not around? But father! That was simply the funniest thing! She leaves her clothes pretty much everywhere and- Did you notice sheâs been buying a lot of things lately? Anyways. I get it. I get it... Iâll be the coolest brother she can have.â
âNow... That reminds me, did you know Zeusâ dad is simply the man with the tightest face on the planet? He looks like heâs got something stuck in his ass.â
