After a kip, we make the journey back to England. It’s pretty easy. It seems I am now a pro at handling roundabouts on the wrong (yes it is still wrong) side of the road. BNBN (da da da da da) helps us, here we are in a service station near Dover at 8pm. We didn’t really learn much from this trip. We’ll probably do it again. Now we’ve busked and completed our mission, we remember we haven’t eaten properly for 15 hours. So we dump our stuff at the hotel and get some lovely French baguettes and a few beers. We visit Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, and manage to get to the Eiffel tower just in time to see it light up.

OK we are heading out to busk it must be about mid day by the time we head out. We have no idea where to busk and no understanding of the train map. Staying in Montmartre the only stop we recognised on the Metro (French version of the underground) was the Champs Elysees, so on our merry way we went. It turned out there were protests for workers rights going on, so amidst a sea of riot police we set up on the Pont Alexandre III bridge in 21 degree heat (April 9th, can’t believe our luck). Expecting to immediately be moved on, we end up playing for three hours without any problems. There was singing, dancing and smiling.

OK we are here. We made it around 11AM French time. Just time for a quick nap before we head out to busk.

We found some French radio en route to Paris.

Seven and a half hours later and we have gone under the sea (under the sea) to France via the channel tunnel. As you can see from the selfie we are exhausted at this point, but I soon wake up when confronted with driving on the right (wrong) side of the road. It’s pretty much an 80 mph speed limit in France when it’s dry so we had to stay alert.

It’s midnight on Thursday morning. I’ve just finished hosting an open mic in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Jake and Jon are with me, Fabian arrives from a party in a bullet proof vest he’s picked up. No one is sure why. He sleeps for a while. The selfie is in my kitchen before we leave, spirits are high...

April 9th 2015-April 10th 2015, the time me and the band The Cabineers drove to Paris, with the sole intention to busk. We did a gig on Monday the 6th in Ipswich, Suffolk and with the money from that and a bit extra we made in Paris, we went along our merry way. Four boys, one mission, sort of.

Hello everybody!!

And a very happy 2015 to you. I’ve been gigging and busking a lot over the last couple of months, and I’m enjoying a short break at the beginning of January. I’ll be gigging again from the 10th of Jan, keep checking my gigs page for updates.

In 2014 I had some amazing experiences playing to some amazing people. You probably know who you are, although some of you might not realise how amazing you are! If you’re reading this, you are included, you are amazing.

in January 2014, I severed the tie between me and my management label. It’s my best decision to date, I much preferred the control I had in 2014. It meant I could cut the crap and talk directly and honestly to you, and I’ve got a whole lot more communication back. In all honesty, the management contract I was in in 2013 really got me down, but it taught me some valuable life lessons. The most important thing to me after leaving it was to remember why I got into music in the first place. So that’s what I gave you last year, and will continue to give you in 2015.

Moving on from January! By April I’d got a full band together ‘The Cabineers’ with Jacob Marshall-Tierney, Fabian Marshall-Tierney and Jon Arundel (Tierney). We recorded an EP together between February and May. Our first festival date was in April where we played for eight hours! We headlined with a two hour set and then did a six hour encore. Bruce Springsteen eat your heart out!

Over the summer we played loads of festivals across the UK including Folkeast and Barefoot Festival. We also released a small batch of EPs with the singles ‘Who Made Heaven’ and ‘Take Me Home’. We did a lot of camping. It was intense (in tents…).

After festival season, we supported Turin Brakes at the Cult Cafe in Ipswich, and shortly after that we supported Nick Harper at The Norwich Arts Centre. For the Norwich gig we had a line-up change, switching Fabian Marshall-Tierney and Jon Arundel with Ben Diffley and Alfie Harries. in 2015, we are looking to re-unite everybody in the band to create a 6 piece wonder-fest.

Since November, I’ve been playing solo shows and busking up and down the country like a mad-man. I wanted to get back in touch with my old solo sets. It has meant I’ve been doing a lot of writing, so keep your eyes peeled for new tracks in 2015. I’m finishing them now!

The video below includes some of my favourite moments of 2014. It’s an introduction to what I do for festivals and promoters to look at this year.

I am proud to say that busking has treated me well enough to be able to buy a PA. This means as well as busking I can now put on my own events.

Me and Jake recently played for two hours on the balcony of The Music Sales Group office on Berners Street to a load of publishers. It was very surreal and we walked away with a couple of bottles of wine, result!

Me and The Cabineers recently recorded 4 live songs for BBC Suffolk. We recorded two new songs, one jig and ‘Who Made Heaven’. Thanks for having us Foz! The recordings will be available to listen to soon.

New Website!

Welcome to the new look for my website. I hope you like it!

As many of you will know, in 2014 my website has been focused on me and my band ‘The Cabineers’. Although it has been an amazing time for all of us, the site has lost it’s focus on my songwriting, which is what I originally set out to do. So, ‘www.charlielaw.co.uk‘ and my social media is focused on me again, and ‘www.thecabineers.co.uk‘ is focused on my band, which I run with Jacob Tierney. I am still going to be playing with the band, but I’ll also be playing songs on my own again.

I hope this is good news for you, it is very important news for me.
