Kids’ Halloween Costumes That They’re Too Young to Understand
Miss Representation is a film that reveals the long-standing media bias against women and girls in the United States of America and the detrimental real-life effects it has. Written and directed by Stanford Business School alumnus Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film challenges media's history of valuing women only for their sexuality and the under-representation of women in positions of power, both on-air and off.

"Can you walk the talk? It's easy for someone to say, 'I care about people. I believe in helping and being helped. I believe that helping people become healthy or make money or raise successful children is paramount in life.' Many people say those things - but then you see their actions, you hear about them from their own networks, and you discover they really don't believe any of it. So where do you start? You start with the philosophy, the worldview, that every human is an opportunity to help and be helped. The rest - whether it means helping with someone's health, wealth, children, or any other unsatisfied desires - follows from that."

How to Make It in America® Capsule
Good Wood Creates 3 Limited Edition Pieces
When Kerri O' Connell founded Good Wood in 2007, she never dreamed that Lebron James, Snoop Dogg, Grizz from 30 Rock, and even (gasp!) Jaden Smith would eventually rock her designs. But, by focusing on an innovative and artistic product first and grassroots promotion second, that's exactly what happened.
Holding it down for the females in streetwear, Ms. O' Connell forged her way through sawdust and carved out bold, recognizable iconography that would sweep through the celebrity and downtown stratosphere.
For this collab, Kerri crafted three limited pendants. One depicts the back of a quarter, but with the eagle on a skateboard, connoting "youth overtaking America." Another is a champagne bottle wrapped in a US flag to signify success. And the last is... Luis Guzman's face. Yup, the Rasta Monsta himself.
How to Make It in America airs Sundays at 10:30pm. Only on HBO.

WHAT IS THE DIGITAL DESIGN TOURNAMENT?
Unlike submission-based design contests, this tournament is a battle format where emerging designers flex their skills before a live audience. It requires competitors to rapidly perform as their computer displays their project onto large screens. Competition rounds are 15-20 minutes each -fast and furious. It’s a dance of visual artistry accompanied by DJ music, an MC host and the influence of active bartenders.
Each tournament event features competitions in 2D, 3D and Motion/Animation design. The winners of each competition in each city are flown to New York to compete in our annual Global Championship.

20x20 what is it?
PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. If you're in the Bay Area, see this presentation format in action TONIGHT as designers, business leaders, tech giants, poets, scientists and politicians are brought together to solve one of the most important issues of our time: How do we build a sustainable future? Oct 3 2011 In 6 Minutes, 40 Seconds: How to Design a Sustainable Future Location: Levi’s Auditorium, 1155 Battery St. Time: 6 p.m. check-in, 6:30 p.m. program, 7:30 networking reception Cost: $20 standard, $12 members, $7 students Also know: Underwritten by Levi Strauss & Co.
