Ricky Reshuen Koonce, better known as Yun Creo, 28, is an American hip-hop recording artist, songwriter, founder and CEO of Mustle Gang in Birmingham, Alabama. He's also part of Clear Channel's Artist and Integration program through M. Republik.
Yun Creo is a product of Dothan, Alabama. He grew up in the harsh conditions of poverty and experienced deep racism in the south. He got to see first hand, as a child, the effects of violence and drugs in his community. He was determined not to be a victim of his circumstances, so he focused on his education and graduated high school and went off to college in Birmingham. Although, after some time in college, he decided to leave it all behind to pursue his goals within the music industry. Creo quickly garnered a local buzz with his fresh new take and perspective on street life. His witty hooks and personal lyrics over hard hitting southern trap landed Creo as a local celebrity and a target in Birmingham.
What inspired Creo to channel his emotions and feelings into his music was due to a robbery that turned deadly. On that night, as Creo was walking out of a studio in Birmingham, he was approached by a stranger who demanded Creo's belongings. After a brief struggle with this stranger, Creo broke free but was immediately fired upon, and the bullet struck his arm nearly missing chest. After a brief gun battle with the stranger, one of Creo’s associates, who was waiting in the car, struck and killed the robber.
As previously stated, instead of turning that experience into outrage, Creo began to channel his full self into his music. He writes about his trials and tribulations - his own true-life experiences. After joining forces with M. Republik Music Group, Creo’s first mixtape 'Trap Still Jumping' will be released in the beginning of 2014.
