BORED ART
“Air Gert” 2019
A gif of myself skateboarding I made using photoshop.
This is a video of my new magazine.
“DisruptiveZine” 2017
This is A magazine that I designed with all my own images, and creative knowledge. For this magazine my focus was to have a call to action/ a purpose. This magazine has been designed to be about recycling, and beach replenishment. I made artwork/ layouts that represent recycling, pollution, and how simple it can be to participate in doing. It is not difficult to do, everybody should do it. I almost pick up some kind of balloon, or plastic every time I go to the beach.
The idea for beach replenishment article started with some of the pictures I took of a local beach replenishment projects. I then did online research about beach replenishment, so that I could write an article a for my magazine. I will post the links at the bottom, it can be interesting if you want to read those. I need to work on writing more. I would have more to design around, but serious news articles “non-fiction” are not my thing. I love writing fiction, thats were my best stuff comes from.
I use a dslr Nikon, and my Iphone to capture all of my images. When I use the dslr I mostly shoot in camera raw, then go home critique my photos, and edit a couple for color digitally in photoshop. Most of the time I post the best ones to some kind of social media right away. I see it like this… if I do not post it, how will anybody ever enjoy it.
I use Adobe Indesign/Adobe Bridge to collect and lay out all of my content cohesively to create a complete project. I make all kinds of layouts using contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. I look at art elements like line, shapes, values of light and dark, texture, color. I also look for all the art principles of balance, rhythm, harmony, movement, and if it is economical or not. A lot of the elements in my magazine are made using Adobe Illustrator.

“Fat Osprey” 2016
All I have to say is, these birds are amazing. It was great to watch it fishing for prey. They float in the air, and suddenly drop, diving just to skim the water to catch a tasty fish for their offspring.
Editing wise, All I did was edit the raw file in photoshop for color. The entire photo does have some pretty awesome storm clouds in the background. Since the bird is a little far away this photo is extremely zoomed in and a little grainy. I don’t really think it is that big of deal, I don’t own a strong zoom lens, so theres not much I could do. Overall the sacrifice of a little grain helps make the osprey the main subject. Also I thought being able to see the ospreys bright yellow eye, and the dead fishes eye, was pretty great.

“oh, WOW! how artsy” 2016
This is a photo of an old beer bottle, from what I assume is from the late fifties, early sixties. I know this because the bottle says on it “federal law forbids sale or reuse of this bottle”. Apparently after the prohibition of alcohol in the United States beer distributers had to have this saying on every bottle. The reason for this is because after the government abolished the law, and it was not totally in affect right away. I also believe some states even continued with having the prohibition of alcohol even after the law was abolished.
Also another fact that I cannot prove or disprove is during prohibition the beaches of Strathmere and Sea Isle City were used as a way for certain people to receive illegal alcohol packages to then be distributed up, and down the east coast.
Now this photo was taken using my dslr. I edited the raw image in photoshop for color. I then uploaded it to my phone, and then edited it again with Instagram. I found this bottle, and decided it was going to be my subject for the day. I took many photos of this bottle in many different ways. I used different aperture settings, shutter speeds, angles, light, and couple different places. The main reason this photo appealed to me was I have a foreground, middle ground (kinda?), and a background. This is something I wanted to do in all my photos before summer started. Since then I have not been able to do much, but work at the seafood market which the total opposite of graphic design...bummer.
Anyway, I do have another photo of this bottle that I am saving for the new magazine that I hope to finish very soon...

“smells of death” 2015
This group of turkey vultures likes to hang out on this tree often. I assume they choose this place because it’s clear all around, and they can easily pick up the smell of rotting flesh. Lets just say roadkill doesn’t last long when these vultures are around. I believe I once saw like eight or nine at one time on this tree. While these birds are creepy, they actually have lots of positive folklore about them. Examples of this are that the bird are signs of resourcefulness, renewal, and being birds of peace for not actually killing their prey.
The reason I choose this photo is because the dark shapes of the vultures really stand out in front of the sky. Also while the vulture with its wings stretched out is easily recognized the others shapes are very abstract, and hard to make out. The tree being dead also has great symbolism, even better when there are bunch of vultures perched a top it. I assume that it is dead either because of invasive bugs or because it got struck by lightning. While a tree is always vertical...boring... this tree has great horizontal lines with the branches. The branches also create great negative spaces between them.
