“Alright. That’s enough of that.” She put the bell down, muttering a few words before the ringing stopped. It wasn’t uncommon for her to come by the shops she had worked on to make sure everything was working properly. It’s what brought her to the bell on the door. It had been charmed to ring loudly when the door opened when the shop was closed but it seemed to stop reacting to the spell when it was time to open. It was easy enough to replace it with another. She’d have to take a look and make sure no foul play was involved. She said goodbye to the shop owner and stepped back out into the alley. She was by the owl emporium when one flew out of the shop, startling her. It was enough to get the bell going again in her pocket. “Bloody hell,” she said, pulling the bell out to try and get it to stop. “You’ve made your point. No need to deafen the entire alley.”

Maria shook her head, chuckling softly. Maddox was trying to serenade the entire bar, loudly and out of tune. The manager looked at her and she shook her head, downing the rest of her drink. "Water for the whole bar!"

“Hopefully an accepted apology by a beautiful, generous, charming, incredibly understanding and no doubt exasperated wife from her husband who’s an arse and can’t stop working sometimes to realise just what a treasure he has waiting for him at home.” he responded, batting his eyes dramatically as he brought out a bouquet of Asiatic lilies. He had been absent more than usual since the new year, the bank of course also facing it’s own crisis and the accounts were all over the place. It had torn him away from Maria for long hours, sometimes not coming home until past the early hours of the morning and neglecting his other duties to the wyvern.
“You’re very lucky,” she said as the smile crept over her face. “Most men do not have a beautiful, generous, charming and incredibly understanding wife does in fact accept your apology.” Like she wouldn’t. Al meant the world to her. Anyone who knew the pair knew that. A few muttered words and flicks of her wand later, the flowers were in a vase behind the bar. “You put up with my long hours here before. It would be hypocritical of me to hold the same against you.” Her hand took his and kissed his knuckles before grabbing a glass to pour him a drink. “The usual?”

Monty wasn’t really sure what time it was but he knew that he probably should be sleeping right now. Most people would probably be sleeping right now. Only, he was like, so awake. “Do you have any caffeine? I know it’s weird but it always helps me level out and I’m dying to start going to sleep.”
–
Maria nodded her head. She had heard more than one weird thing behind this bar. “There’s been much weirder. Even just this week.” Someone had spoken of the dragon in their belly needing firewhiskey. At first she had thought it was a metaphor but then they kept going and just....it wasn’t a joke. She waved her wand and a mug landed in front of him. Another wave and the coffee pot started up. “It’ll just be a few minutes.” The stuff you could magic never tasted right in her opinion. “Is this your first time in here? I’m not sure I’ve seen you before.”

* SIMONE ASHLEY … met gala 2022 ( gilded glamour ) .
location: white wyvern
It wasn’t the most busy of nights at the pub. But Maria still felt the need to stay to help out her staff. The bartender had needed the night off and she had granted it. The last thing she wanted to be was a mean boss. She had no real plans and well...it’s her business after all. Someone took a seat at the end of the bar, settling in while Maria walked over to them. “What can I get you?”

where; shafiq dining room whomst; open
She had to admit that she preferred the open sprawling layout of the Shafiq estate. After growing up in the tall but cramped Grimmauld Place, it seemed like a luxury. All these windows, all this light. It didn’t suit her complexion but it did help her mood.
“This Etta James woman isn’t half bad.” She said, sipping her glass of champagne. Muggle jazz wasn’t normally her thing, but this was quite nice, “They say she’s American?”
–
The surprise had made Maria’s night. She had heard Etta James before and was even more impressed in person. The fact that she was here made it more special. Though she had no idea she was a halfblood. The fact that her sister-in-law was appreciative was proof of her talent. “She is, yes. She’s wonderful.” She wasn’t starstruck but she couldn’t believe this was their entertainment. Maybe she hadn’t given these pureblood parties enough credit. “It’s a great way to bring in the new year.”
She looked around for Al. She needed another dance. Or at least an excuse to walk away. It had seemed somehow more rude to not answer her question originally. Though now it seemed small talk was in her future. “Are you having a good night?”
location: gardens of the estate
Maira knew this event would not be the easiest. Her whole being knew this. But somehow, she had become overwhelmed. Deep down, she did want to impress the people at the party. She wanted Al to be able to walk down the street without having to deal with comments about her. As the years went by, the idea of that happening grew smaller and smaller. She could handle most of the comments but even she had her limits. After making her leave with Al, she moved out onto the gardens. It was much easier out here. Less people and more fresh air. Within a few moments she could feel her anxiety lessen. As she moved around the gardens, she heard the sound of footsteps on the gravel. “Good evening,” she said as she looked at the person approaching with a smile. “I hope it is a good one for you.” Can’t say she isn’t polite, no matter what her upbringing was.

somewhere in the shafiq home || OPEN
“I am,” Llewellyn said, with a fair amount of shame in his voice (well placed, and on time, for once) as he hung his head, “admittedly very lost. And admittedly … not trying all that hard to find my way back. You see,” he started, ready to weav the elaborate tale of how he’d left the dinner table, set on finding the lavatory, and had gotten himself turned around several times upon finding distraction after distraction, and had now found themself several floors away and on the wrong side of the house from the ballroom, when he decided not to. “Actually, it’s quite a long story, I might get lost again telling it. Where were you headed? Would you mind terribly if I joined you? I’d rather enjoy the company.”
If there were people here she didn’t know who didn’t run in the other direction, she was already comfortable. It seemed her reputation (both good and bad) was known before her. “I’m headed back to the main house. If that’s not where you’re going, I’m happy to direct you in the correct way.” She stuck her hand out, the businesswoman in her coming out. It was never a bad idea to make a new friend. “Maira Black.”

OPEN || Shafiq Estate (party, or just wandering around during the party)
Abe didn’t have a lot of rules for New Year’s. Well, to be fair, to some, Abe’s insistence on these things he did not do would technically count as rules, they were as follows: he did not make resolutions, he never showed up at any party on that specific date with a date, he didn’t kiss people at midnight (he kissed them, if he decided to kiss anyone, whenever the hell he felt like it), and skipped any event that seemed like a genuinely more interesting alternative to keeping the pub open.
Remember, those were things Abe wouldn’t do. So, naturally, Abe had a tent. That tent, of course, had a fully functional bar (small, personal) inside it. The bar, then, as we wouldn’t have had it any other way, was stocked from his favorite shelf at the pub. He’d been in and out of the tent all evening – the hubbub and the people, and the buzz, fuck, the buzz off that many voices in one room, was just enough to make Aberforth he’d had a better reason to stay home. “I’m thinking about ringing in an Australian New Year … which … by math should be in, like, the next hour. What do you say?”
“I had a feeling you’d be out here,” she said with a smile. It wasn’t that she wasn’t avoiding the party but well....she was avoiding the party. Too many people having opinions they shouldn’t be having. It was getting rather old. Made her wish almost that she had stayed in London for the night. But Al was here and well...she’d follow him pretty much anywhere. “That sounds like a lovely idea. Though I can’t really think of any Australian cocktails. That’s how we should celebrate, yes?”
She sat down on one of the chairs within the tent, giving Abe a smile. “Though I’d do just about anything to avoid some of those in there.” Her thumb pointed back to the main house. “One would think they’d get bored of saying the same things about me after years of it.” It would be boring for her, anyway. “How’s your evening going?”
@x-alphardashes-x
It wasn’t that the evening was gong to be a bad one. It wasn’t. It seemed their hosts were more than happy to welcome any and all into their home. It was more than Maria had expected, really. Her dress for the evening festivities was beautiful, a dark purple with off the shoulder sleeves. The necklace Lu had given her for her wedding was on, reminding everyone who. Who she was to the heir of one of their best families. Was it a bit selfish? Sure. But she had earned that right. Too many of these parties had ended with her going home and asking Al once more if he was sure she was worth this. She knew his answer. It was the same it had always been. They were worth it. Even with their current bump in the road, they were worth it.
The potions weren’t a secret. They had sat down to talk about their options for starting a family. This was just a test. A good, unknown location that they most likely would never see again. And if they worked well...she did always think a fall birthday would be good for a child. It was her favorite season and it would be made better with their child’s birth. She looked in the mirror once more, fussing with her hair. It had to look good. This year was going to be their best one yet. She was not going to start it with her hair a mess.
