I forgot about mermay this month which led me to thinking if SSO would ever incorporate mermaids in the game which then led me to drawing this ^ image of my character accidentally reeling in a curious mermaid.

while the new marchenghast questline/area seems really cool, it feels to me, idk, somehow disconnected from the game?? i can't explain why or how but it feels like something that doesn't fit the game's esque or perhaps it is in my brain. not saying it's not good, and i'm more than happy to be receiving more quests, but it just does not feel like star stable to me

I haven't played it yet but I think the quest, as much of the newer ones are, don't feel related because this game came out in the 2010s', which had a whole different culture and feel. A lot of the older quest felt silly and played into the culture of the time though the newer quest play are obviously going to play into the 2020s' culture because... we're in the 2020s.

I don't know if this makes sense but it probably feels like a more modern and "refined" version of initial SSO, but this is honestly happening to a lot of media made for kids right now where they're not really allowing themselves to be seen as cringe. (Not that SSO was cringe but moreso there was no fear of being seen as cringe till later in the 2010s to now.)

I don't think this is really a bad thing, and even when writing this I don't think we can expect the game writers to emulate that 2010s feeling when we just aren't in that era anymore. Since SSO is online it's always going to evolve and I think the main problem is just that they weren't able to finish the main quests before this change, which is why maybe it feels disjointed. But this was just food for thought and non-researched (yet) so this is more of a theory than anything.

True devastation is not being able to fall off the bridge on Fort Pinta anymore. 😔 It's just not the same anymore, what else is supposed to give me heart-dropping anxiety in this game?

This is just food for thought but I think one of the reasons people love the old models in comparison to the new ones, for other than nostalgia, is that they weren't as detailed, and thus didn't have to be nitpicked for every detail.

Like the way our cameras have gotten so advanced that we can see every pore so old pictures look "better" because we were only able to see the important details (i.e. eyes, nose, shape, etc.) that helped make the image rather than everything.

This is also tied to the uncanny valley effect in films/games/etc. of things being too hyper realistic when all our eyes really need to pick up on are the important details, but this would turn into an essay so I'm just leaving it at that.

I was looking back at old art when I came across the entries I submitted for the rainbow horse competition a few years back and just felt like drawing and ended up creating a story with one my designs. I may post all the designs on here later but for now, here's this.

She had visited Jorvik once as a child during a family vacation. Her mother's friend, who had recently moved there, had invited their family and they had readily agreed. While miffed at first, the little girl had found herself enjoying the trip the moment they landed on the Fort Pinta docks.

Though while playing with the local children one day, she had gotten lost in the Hollow Woods bordering Valedale while in search of the runaway ball despite the adults warnings ringing in the back of her mind.

Perhaps in childish folly, she hadn't been that scared and just followed the bugs. Till, out of the dark woods, emerged a horse. A magical one, with a long mane that resembled a rainbow, that found her ball and then led her back to the clearing where her parents and adults were frantically looking for her and the other children. When she turned to thank the creature, she had seen the end of it's rainbow tail disappear past the woods just as her parents scooped her up and away from the place. The only memory was the flower that had fallen from its mane, clutched tightly in her hands as she looked at the woods.

This was the design btw!
