It was during college that I met this guy. He’s two batch higher than me. I knew him by face since I was in first year college because I was a part of a dance crew then and some of my crewmates are his friends as well. He was famous as the “Kuya” (meaning older brother) of their batch. Being in a family with 2 siblings, all of which are sisters, I always longed for a kuya. Someone who will protect and guide me as I go through my teenage years. So when I came to knew this guy, I thought he can be my kuya-kuyahan but I never got the chance to meet him personally. Until during our engineering week… I was the president of one organization in our school, Lyceum Math Circle (LyMaC), and he was a co-captain of the basketball team for the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP). During the basketball elimination round, LyMaC vs. IECEP, there was a fight between the teams. As co-captain of their team, he asked for my number from one of our common friend and texted me to say sorry for what happened. Since then, we always exchange text messages, sharing stories and experiences. Not long enough, as we grew closer with each other, the “kuya” goal became more deeper. I think I found my “Nathan”… athletic, caring, and a very family-oriented man.
My Ideals about Marriage and Family
During my teenage years, I’ve watched the TV series, One Tree Hill. It became a big part of my life because I was convinced it had taught me a sea of life lessons. There’s this married couple there named Nathan and Haley Scott. And that.. that is what my marriage supposed to be, I tell myself. I should be Haley and I should find my Nathan. Nathan is, I guess, many girls’ dream husband. He’s the most ideal and suitable guy to wake up in the morning with. He’s sweet, athletic, and most importantly, he KNOWS how to take care of Haley. Haley, by the way, is also a perfect wife and mother to their son, Jamie, and daughter, Lydia. To cut the story, they have become my ideal family. So, my search for my Nathan started.
