“I need your help. No questions asked”.

“It is something ilegal?” Liam arched an eyebrow.

“Very”

Riley wasn’t in her best shape since she came back to New York. Her life certainly wasn’t the same since she saw Drake again, but the worst part is that her wedding was only just a month away.

She lost count of how many tabloids asked to interview her and share details of her dream wedding. It was easy for her to refuse them, as she was in a hurry with meetings and the whole planning. And she thanked God, because she really didn’t know what she could say about it.

She woke up on a Monday morning alone. Patrick had to leave for a meeting early, but she was already used to his busy work schedule. She was still on her pajamas when she heard someone knocking at her door. Annoyed, she left her coffee on the table and opened it. Drake was standing outside her apartment, looking at her expectantly. She smashed the door closed as an instinct and took her some seconds to realize what was happening. She opened it again and found him still there, with a puzzled look.

“What are you doing here?”

“Good morning to you too”

She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him inside the apartment quickly checking around before closing the door.

“How did you find me? How did you even entered the building?”

“I might have broken in”.

“Drake…”

“Okay, okay. I might have asked Liam to call your manager, so she would call the building security and allow me to enter?”

“You’re unbelievable”. She was amused, yet worried for his presence in her home.

He quickly started looking around her apartment.

“Coffee?” She asked.

“You don’t have anything stronger?”

“It’s 8 in the morning”.

“Okay. Coffee it is. You really have nice taste, by the way.”

“Thanks”.

He walked over the shelf where she kept some of her most valuable possessions.

“You really are an overachiever” he said looking at her award collection.

“You’d be surprised”. He stopped as soon as he saw the pictures of Riley and Patrick together, on set, on red carpets, celebrating their engagement.

“You still haven’t told me what you’re doing here”. She handed him the coffee.

He took a long sip before answering. “I came to take you back home”.

She laughed sarcastically. “I am at home. Can’t you see that?”

“No, Jones. Your home is by my side. And I’m not leaving without you. I’m not losing you again this time without a fight”.

Before Riley even said something, she heard Patrick’s voice getting closer down the hall. She groaned.

“You really have the best timing, Walker”. She whispered annoyed.

Patrick entered his home while being a phone call, carrying a big box on his left hand. He stopped dry when he saw Drake in the middle of the living room.

“I gotta go”. He hanged up. He looked at Riley, whose cheeks were flushing with a delicate red. “What is going on?”

Riley didn’t know what to answer, and she tried to compose herself. Drake cut her off before she even opened her mouth.

“Hi. I’m Drake Walker. We haven’t met before but sure we know about each other. I came here to get Riley back”.

Jesus, she muttered to herself. Was he seriously saying that? She was shocked.

“You really have serious guts to come here”.

Patrick put the big box on the table. It was her wedding dress, and she felt her heart ache.

“I’m sorry. I get it. You just noticed how wonderful she is and suddenly you want her back. Breaking news, man, she is already taken”.

“I know she is with you. But you need to know too, I love her. And she loves me. We belong together”. Riley closed her eyes, unable to say a word.

“So first you sleep with my fiancee and then you try to get her back?” Drake was caught off guard with his confession.

“She told you…” he said incredulously.

“Of course she told me. We are getting married, for fuck’s sake. You can’t just simply hide things like that”.

“And you forgave her?”

“I love her. Doesn’t matter how many mistakes she could make, I will always forgive her because I couldn’t bare to lose her, you know?”

That hurt Drake deeply. Riley betrayed him, but she was honest with him and he forgave her, willing to move on instead of losing her forever. Why he couldn’t have done the same? He didn’t know what else to say. And for a moment he thought he was wrong. Maybe she deserved a man like Patrick, one that would fight for her over anything. In some way, it didn’t feel right to take her away from him anymore.

“You both need to stop this”. Finally Riley spoke. “Drake. I need you to leave, please. Now it’s not the moment.”

“I’m not leaving without you.”

“The I suggest you get comfortable”. Patrick said annoyed.

“My love, could you give me a minute with him? I will handle it”. Riley said to Patrick. He doubted but after a moment, he nod and left the room. They stayed in silence for some minutes looking at each other.

“You can’t do this, Drake”.

“Can’t do what?”

“Pretend we still have a chance. I’m with someone else now. You need to respect that”. She said calmly.

“Riley, you love me and we both know it. Picture your life some time from now. Who do you wanna see next to you every morning? Who do you want to have a family with? Who do you want to spend the rest of your life with? If it’s him, I get it. But if there is a possibility, even the most remote one, that you picture me instead, I’m begging you, don’t let it go”.

She sighed. He was right. She could picture those things with Patrick, but she knew that if she did, she would keep on wondering forever what would have happened if she would have chosen Drake.

“You destroyed us, Drake, and you never mended it. You didn’t even try”.

“You left me”.

“But I waited for you. A call, a message, a letter, a fucking sign. You didn’t. And now that I decided to move on suddenly you want to fight for this? You’re four years late, Drake. You can’t act like a kid that suddenly wants the toy someone else is playing with. The toy you left forgotten for so long.”

“Don’t say that.”

“It’s the truth.”

“No. The only truth is this: you love me, I love you. It can’t be more simple than that. You’re right, I should have done this before, much before. But I was scared, I was a coward, I felt I didn’t deserve you anymore. God, in some way I still think that. I’ll never deserve someone like you to love me, but you do it and I don’t want to spend any other second without you by my side anymore. Think about this and make a choice before it’s too late. If you decide to marry him, I’ll understand. I’ll respect it and I promise you I won’t get in your way again, because I’m not planning to steal another man’s wife.” He walked to her and grabbed her face with his both hands.

“I can’t offer you what he can, but if you choose me, I promise you I’ll make you the happiest woman on this planet, and I’ll love you till my very last breath. So when you’re ready come find me, because I’ll be fucking waiting.”

He didn’t say anything else. Instead he walked to the door and left. Riley realized she stopped breathing since he touched her, and she had no idea what to do next.

Ruin the Friendship - TRR AU

A/N: This was such an inspiration. I was listening to a song and I started to go over it, and I thought to myself there’s a cool, but kind of angst story here, so why not try to put it into words. I really owe it to @captainkingliam for being an example. I realized that if she or anyone can get through her anxiety and post their work then I can try to do it, too. I’m not a very good writer, so please be kind to my heart. Thanks to the writers who have inspired me to be strong and brave.

Summary: Liam and Catheryne (MC) have been best friends since childhood. They have moved to New York to attend college together and are roommates. What happens when one of the is in love with the other?

Exhaustion. Fatigue. Soreness. Her body is literally screaming from the day’s work. She looks at her watch and it reads 2am. Her shoulders slump forward and she sighs deeply, as if that would help her relieve some of her stress from the day. She unties her apron and throws it in her locker while grabbing her purse. Her crappy boss barks at her just as she was about to step out of the back area, “If you’re late again, you can kiss your job goodbye, do you hear me?!” She grumbled her response, too tired from the day to care, “and tell your friend, Liam, that if he ditches his shift again, I’ll can him along side with you!” And with that warning, she left.

The New York busy lifestyle continues to amaze her even though she’s been there for a year and a half now. Amazing, she thought to herself. It’s as if this city never stops for anyone. So completely different from home. With that thought, she reminisces of her home town and childhood.

She grew up in a small town on the coast of North Carolina. The beach was her back yard. It was her paradise. She was happy and content and the only thing she wished for was a sibling so she can have a friend since she didn’t have a lot of those, but her parents said that she was a medical miracle, that they were lucky that he mom was able to be pregnant to begin with. It was cut and dry, she was going to be an only child. Then he came along.

That very same summer, she was out playing all alone down by the beach when she saw him. She was intrigued, she has never seen another child the same age as her in this area. She wanted to come say hello, but she was too scared. She started to feel butterflies in her stomach, nervous of meeting someone new. She never really had to try to make a friend. All her friends she met at school and they all lived near the city that she didn’t really see them at all during the summer. She was so focused on her thoughts, that she didn’t see him walk up to her.

“Hello, I’m Liam,” the little boy announces himself. She was startled out of her trance and didn’t realize he had spoken. “Uhhh…I’m Catheryne.” The first thing she notices about this boy is his eyes, almost the same color as the ocean that she loves. His blonde hair glistened under the sunshine, a stark contrast from her dark, wavy brown hair and eyes. He held out his hand for her to shake, and she gladly met it.

“Are you new here?” She asks him. “Oh yes. My family and I just moved here from a country in Europe.” Ah, that explains his funny accent, thinking to herself. “That’s cool! Well, welcome to paradise, Liam, let me show you around.” From that moment on, they were inseparable. They played every day of that summer. They were so happy when they found out they would not only be going to the same school, but also the same classes.

Their friendship continued to last through high school even though they became two very different people. She became a bookworm, a shy girl who stuck to herself, only replied when spoken to. She became this way, when her parents died during her sophomore year. Even though her parents left her a considerable amount of wealth and their family home, Liam’s parents took her in and she considered them her second parents considering the years she had spent in their home during play dates and sleepovers. She was so grateful for their hospitality towards her and it made it easy to move since their houses are right beside each other.

On the other hand, Liam grew to be an unbelievably handsome young man. He was perfect in every sense. Tall, broad shoulders, defined features, every thing that a girl could ever dream of. He even makes a scruffy face look good. He is the very definition of a jock. He played football and lacrosse, he was the student body president, and he was popular. He led the football team through states championship in their senior year. When you hear about him, you expect him to be arrogant and stuck up like all the other popular kids around him, but he just continues to defy expectations. He has the gentlest, kindest heart. He genuinely cared for everyone around him. He was incredibly smart. If Catheryne, wasn’t around he might even be valedictorian. He sure can give her a run for her money sometimes when it came to intelligence. But even with all his perfectness, he failed to see the one thing so obvious in front his eyes. His best friend completely in love with him. She doesn’t know when she realized what her feelings were for him, but she knows she was completely stricken by him since they were 6 years old.

A loud honking taxi broke her walk down memory lane. She finally arrived at the door of her apartment. I wonder if he’s home. I doubt it, she thought to herself. She entered their dark, but quaint space. When she reaches her room, her fatigue catches up to her and she falls face down first on her bed. She hugged her pillow tightly as she replays the night in her mind.

He begged her to take his shift so he can surprise his girlfriend, Chelsea, for their anniversary. And like a complete idiot, she agreed. Why couldn’t it be her? Why couldn’t she be the one in his heart? How could this girl who he only met a year ago in college capture his heart? She wanted so hard to hate him, to tell herself that it would be so much easier. Her heart was in so much pain. Maybe if she wasn’t so tired, she could have held her tears in, but tonight she let them free. She let her broken heart grieve for the love she cannot have. Oh, Mom, I wish you were here to comfort me. I wanna lay my head on your lap and just cry. I am so tired of being alone. Her heart and mind were so engrossed on her pain and tears that she didn’t register the rap of knocks on her door.

“Ryne, are you awake?” Liam inquired from the other side. She quickly jumped from her bed and yelled, “Yeah, one sec, I’m changing.” She changed out of her uniform putting on a spaghetti strap tank and sweatpants, and splashed her face with some water, hopefully masking her slightly red eyes. “Hey, Liam, how was the date?” She quickly asks when she opens her door for him. She was caught off guard when she looks up and sees his face. He is a mess. His shirt was halfway tucked, tie loosened around his neck. His neatly kept blonde hair sticking out in all different directions. He smelled of sweat, his skin glistened with tiny droplets of perspiration. In his ocean blue eyes, she sees pain and anger.

“Liam, what the hell happened to…” He steps forward and wraps his arms around her waist, burying his face in her shoulders, interrupting her sentence. He hugs her so tight as if he’s clinging to life itself. She hesitates for a moment before wrapping her arms around him, rubbing circles on his back. She feels his body tremble underneath her hands as he starts to sob. “Shh, it’s alright, it’s ok.” She continues to whisper this to him for god knows how long, but she doesn’t mind. For the world, he puts up a stoic calm front, but when it’s just the two of them all those masks disappear. They have known each other so long that they can read the other like a book.

She feels him finally calm down and she pulls away leading him to sit on her bed. She sits across him, legs crossed. “Liam, what happened?” She asks him earnestly, concern etched on her eyes and face. She hates seeing him this way, although it is very rare. No one likes to see the person that they love hurting. She wants to take it all away. He doesn’t speak right away, she’s used to this and waits patiently.

“I…I caught Chelsea in bed with another guy.” His voice such a whisper that she barely heard it. “Ryne, she was cheating on me,” his voice getting louder with every sentence, “Turns out she’s been fooling around with this guy for most of our relationship! How could I have been such a fool, Catheryne?!” This continued for a while, him ranting and her just listening to him. This is how their friendship worked. He stands up and paces across the room, his hands on his hip. She can feel the anger radiating off of him and she felt it inside her, too. She wanted to hurt Chelsea. She wanted to deliver the same pain that she is causing him. How could she take for granted the greatest man she’ll ever have the chance of knowing?! Oh Liam if you could only see that I love you. I would never hurt you the way she did. Her emotions flooded her mind.

She pulled out the liquor she kept on her personal mini fridge, two glasses and poured them the right amount for the situation. She stops his pacing and hands him the cup, “Here. Drink.” She drags him to her balcony, bringing the bottle of whiskey with her. They stand out there, drinking in silence. They almost finish the bottle’s contents when finally she breaks the silence, “I’m so sorry, Liam. You know you’re gonna be just fine. You’re gonna get through this just like you’ve done in the past. And she never deserved you, anyway. To be honest, everyone knew she was a whore. I think you might have been the only one who wanted to see what she could have been. You know that’s your greatest strength and downfall, you genuinely care about everyone.” She tends to become too blunt when she gets hammered. Thankfully, he didn’t mind it.

“Ryne, why can’t I find the right girl? I feel like every girl I’ve been with since high school has taken advantage of me. I just want to love someone and have them love me the same way.” Can’t you see that I’m right here?! I’ve always been here, you fucking idiot! Why can’t he just see this? She started to fume, her anger at Chelsea, her anger at him for being so blind to her feelings, her anger at herself for loving him, for being so hopelessly and completely in love with him, getting the best of her. She was so angry that her glass shatters in her hands, cutting her.

“Catheryne!! What the hell?! Your hand is bleeding,” if not for Liam’s panic she would’ve never felt the hot blood running down her hands. The pain in her heart combined with being inebriated dulled her. She stared at the pool of blood of blood in her hand, wanting the wrenching prick in her heart to disappear so she could feel the pain of her cut hand. Liam runs back to the balcony toting a first aid kit. She gazes mindlessly as he cleaned and dressed her wounds.

“What the hell, Ryne? What has gotten into you?! You haven’t been yourself lately. I know you don’t think I’ve notice, but I do, ok. I’m your best friend. You’ve been avoiding me.” She flinches upon hearing the word friend. She grabs the whiskey and drinks straight from the bottle, consuming some of the remaining content until he snatches it away from her. “HEY! Give it back!” “No, not until you talk to me, Catheryne Knightely!”

“Don’t you dare treat me like a fucking child, Liam!” She yells at him. “Then don’t act like one! Is this how you would your parents to see you?” he rebuts. “Tell me what’s going on with you.” She closes her eyes, seeing and feeling anger rise in her chest with the mention of her parents, edging her closer to the breaking point, and she hyperventilates. She rubs her temple, willing herself to calm down before she says something she regrets but it was no use.

“Catheryne! Tell me,” he yells her name one more time and her carefully built barrier shatters into million pieces. “Fine, Liam! You want to know so badly why I’ve been distant, huh! You want to know why I’ve been avoiding you. It’s because I love you! I am hopelessly, completely in love with you. I can’t stand watching you with other girls who you don’t belong to, and watching them break your heart anger me! Is that what you wanted to hear, huh, Liam?!” She doesn’t wait for an answer and runs, grabbing her keys on the way out. She barely hears Liam yelling for her to come back.

The cool, nigh air hits her like a train. She runs away and as fast as she can from the mess she caused. She finally stops when her legs couldn’t handle anymore. She collapses on a bench in Central Park, putting her head in between his hands, not trying to stop her tears from flowing. She needed to release all the pain, anger, regret and humiliation. The pounding in her head subsides and one thought forms in her mind,

Hollow. Liam felt so hollow. How could one be empty yet still hurt so badly?

He gazes around his dark hotel suite. Clothes are thrown haphazardly in his suitcase, documents requiring his attention are strewn over the desk, but he can’t find it in himself to care. Drake is coming to get him as soon as the wedding is over to return back to Cordonia. He knows he should finish packing, but instead he refills his glass of bourbon and welcomes the burn as he swallows it.

Nina was pointing the gun at her without hesitation. Without even blinking once. Riley turned to face her, insecure of what to do next.

“What’s your name?” She asked, risking all she had while putting up her hands in the air.

“Nina”. She answered coldly.

“Ok, Nina. I think I need you to enlighten me. I don’t understand this”.

“Drake. He was mine. And then you came back here and used your stupid tricks to steal him from me”.

“I didn’t steal anyone, Nina. I’m getting married, look”. She showed her the ring on her left hand. “My fiancé is called Patrick. I have nothing to do with Drake”.

“He loves you. I’ve seen it. I’ve heard it every time he whispered your stupid name in my ears. So stop lying”.

“I’m not lying, I swear. You don’t have to do this”. Riley was almost losing her voice. She was terrified. “This concerns you and him. Not me”.

“No, Riley.” It was the first time she has pronounced her name. “All of this begins and ends with you”.

The doors of the gallery flew open and Drake entered followed by Bastien and 2 guards. He felt his soul leaving his body as soon as he saw Nina pointing a gun at Riley, who was crying and looked at him with desperation in her eyes. Bastien and the guards pointed their guns at Nina, and Drake stepped in front of her, covering Riley of her sight.

“Drop your weapon. Now!” Bastien yelled at her.

“Nina. Put the gun down in this goddamn moment”.

She laughed bitterly. “And so the knight in shining armor arrived”.

“Put it down now”.

“You did this, Drake”.

“I didn’t do anything. And if you think I’m going to let you hurt Riley, you’re really wrong”.

She looked at him with hate.

“You think you’re gonna stop me? I have enough bullets for both of you”. She got a few step closer to them.

She started crying but managed to keep a huge smile on her face. Her gun was still pointing at Riley through Drake.

“Are you really willing to take a bullet for her, Drake?” She asked incredously.

“I would die for her”. He could see she was hurt with his confession.

“Then allow me to make your dreams come true”.

As soon as she pulled the trigger, Bastien and the guards shot her down. Her motionless body was laying on the floor, and after a few seconds Drake collapsed.

“Drake! Please get an ambulance!” Riley yelled with all her strength. Embracing him in her arms.

He had a bullet wound in his left shoulder, and was losing a lot of blood.

“I’m sorry, Jones”. He said painfully.

“Shh, help is coming. Stay with me”. She cried.

For hours, she didn’t move from the hospital chair until the doctor informed her that Drake was fine and she was allowed to see him.

“You have a talent to pick girlfriends”. She started, getting close to his hospital bed.

“She was never my girlfriend, Jones”. He smiled at her. I wasn’t either. She thought.

“Whatever she was, I can’t believe this happened”.

“I’m sorry I put you through this. I should have handled it better. It didn’t have to end this way”. He said grabbing her hand.

“Hey, it’s not your fault. You couldn’t have known she had mental problems. I feel so sorry for her even if for that moment I thought I was gonna die.” She sighed. “Anyway, I’m glad you’re fine”.

She said and he smiled. Both of them looking at their tangled fingers. They were exhausted, but she knew they needed to talk once and for all.

“Drake. I have to get a lot of things out of my chest. Things I never said and if don’t, I don’t think I could be in peace with myself.”

“Hey, you don’t have to if you don’t want. It’s okay”.

“No. I want to. Really.”

“Okay”. He said, allowing her to continue.

“I really meant it when I told you I will always love you. Doesn’t matter what happens or how much time would pass, you will always have the biggest part of my heart. Even if sometimes I felt I had moved on”. She closed her eyes for a moment.

“But the truth is… I’m so angry at you, Drake. So much it kills me. After all this years, that pain is something I’ve tried to leave behind. For moments it worked but others, like this, all comes back rushing and I can’t deal with it. I realized that maybe the reason is because I’m not doing enough to stop letting it get over me. I’ve been wanting to have this conversation for so long, with thousand of things to say. And now we are here and I realize they aren’t important anymore.” Drake eyes started tearing up.

“We never made it official, I get it. Neither of us made any question, but I thought our love was enough to understand we deserved loyalty and trust”.

“It was. It is. I thought I wouldn’t see you again, Jones. I was mad and scared. I swear that night I thought I was losing my mind. But you need to know, doesn’t matter if it was Olivia, or anyone else, you were the one in my mind”.

“That doesn’t matter anymore, Drake”. She gave him a sad smile.

“Forgive me, Riley. I will never stop being sorry for hurting you”.

“I forgive you. I really want to. I want to let this pain go off my chest. Closure was the only thing I needed.”

She looked at him while he wiped her tears off.

“I know you’re a good man. Doesn’t matter if you have made mistakes, that doesn’t change who you are. So please, never change that”.

She kissed him softly, barely touching his lips. This time their kiss was slow but intense. After a moment, she abruptly pulled off and walked away.

“I should get going. I need to go home”.

“Oh. Okay, I’ll see you in the palace”.

She looked down for a moment before finding his eyes again.

“No, Drake. My home. I’m going back to New York”.

“What? When?”

“In a couple of hours”.

“You can’t be fucking serious”. He yelled.

“Excuse me? What is that supposed to mean?” She gasped.

“You’re not leaving me. Not again”. He tried to jump out of the bed but the pain made him go back.

“Drake, what were you expecting? That suddenly everything was going to be perfect again and we could have a peachy happy ending together? I’m sorry to break it down for you, but we are far from that”.

“You just said you loved me and now you’re running away?”

“I don’t know you but I actually have a life and a job to take care of. And if you have forgotten, I’m getting married”.

“Oh. You didn’t seem to care about that last night”.

She laughed bitterly.

“Low move, Walker.” She looked at him really upset and crossed her arms over her chest .

“I’m sorry, but you can’t do this”.

“Says who?”

“Me. Common sense. Your heart”.

She doubted for a moment and didn’t say anything.

“We can go through this, Jones. Just think about the future”.

“We don’t have any future anymore”.

“We could’ve had one! If you wouldn’t have decided to leave me back then”.

“I had to do it”.

“What for at the end? Did it bring you any joy? You became what you always wanted, but are you even happy?” He asked with a hard tone.

“Yes, I am happy.”

“You’re a liar. I can see you’re not otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”

“Don’t you dare to use that on me, Drake”.

He managed to get out of bed, not caring about the pain. He stepped in front of her blocking her way to the door.

“Stay with me. Please, don’t marry him. Be with me”.

He pressed his forehead against hers.

“I can’t do that. Do you imagine the scandal that would cause?”

He got even more pissed. “Excuse me, since when do you care what people think?”

“I care since I started living off that”.

“This isn’t you. That whole mask you carry on yourself since you left isn’t the Riley I knew”.

“The Riley you knew is gone. This is what I am now”.

“What? A cold-hearted celebrity that only cares about how much money she makes off people kissing her ass?”

She slapped him. She didn’t mean to, but it was too late when she realized what she was doing.

“I… I’m sorry…”

He embraced her.

“Slap me again, fight me. Punch me, scratch me, do whatever you want to me. But don’t leave me”.

Her heart melted. It was screaming yes with all its strength. But she knew she couldn’t hurt Patrick the same way he did to her.

“I’m sorry, Drake. I have to go.”

She left without saying anything else and he knew he couldn’t stop her. And he stayed there for a moment looking at the closed door, wondering if he’ll ever see her again.

He couldn’t believe he was finally holding her in his arms. When he saw her, standing there staring blankly at the door of his old bedroom, he knew it meant she still loved him. And when they finally kissed he could swear he was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

He hold her for a moment, scared to say something that might make her pull apart and run away, so they stayed there in silence. She was the one that broke it.

“I thought you were gone”.

“I was, Jones. But I had to come back”.

“Why?”

He didn’t want to say it, still afraid of her reaction. But he couldn’t hide it anymore, for good or bad.

“Because I love you”.

She looked at him and doubted for a moment, he looked so different but beautiful as ever. How could she think she didn’t love him anymore? Of course she does, she always will. She reached his face and kissed him, not gentle this time either. They started ripping their clothes off even before Drake managed to open the door of his old bedroom.

Deep down Riley knew this was wrong, and against all the things she ever believed. She wasn’t even drunk, she was totally conscious of her actions and knew that she was the worst for cheating on her fiancé. But when she was with Drake she felt like another Riley, the real Riley, the one that never left this palace and his side. She wasn’t playing any role anymore, she was being herself.

His hands were rougher that she remembered, thanks to the long nights he spent working on the workshop. His short beard lingered on the soft skin of her thighs. And his hair was slightly longer but soft as usual, as she tangled her fingers on it to push him deeper against her. She was sweet, so sweet, he felt he could kiss her forever, and when he reached her warmest part, it tasted like home.

She was trembling in his arms while he devoured every inch of her aching body. And he was on the verge of tears of happiness every time he heard her whisper his name. “Drake…”. He wasn’t dreaming.

Drake finally made her his for the first time after years, but it was like she never left. Their bodies had memorized everything about each other and still fit in such a perfect way either of them were able to pull apart.

“More, please… Drake”. She begged.

He didn’t complain. He rolled her over him, and sat on the bed so their bodies were completely attached to each other while she was riding him. He cupped her waist with one hand, and with the other, he hold her bottom to help her move faster on him.

“Oh, god.” She was close, he could feel it. He touched her core and made her scream.

He kissed her hard to silence her, and while she was releasing herself he could feel his own orgasm building on him.

“Riley…” How natural was to feel her name on his lips. This time he wasn’t imagining her beautiful face in another body. This time it was her.

It was a long night for them, as it has always been. They made love for hours, and when he finally fell asleep on her arms, she couldn’t stop thinking.

This was the reason they broke up. Betrayal. And now she was doing the same thing to someone else. The difference is that Drake didn’t love Olivia. But how could she excuse herself with Patrick? This wasn’t just a drunk fling. She did it because she loves him. Part of her thanked destiny for not giving them the chance to talk at all about their situation, she wouldn’t even know where to start. He already knew she still loved him, just by the fact of being there together, but what if he wanted more? What if he was willing to start again? No, this can’t happen. It’s too late.

The next morning he woke up alone. For a moment he thought it might have been a dream, as it has happened before, but he quickly saw his clothes all over the floor. It really happened. He understood she just left. What was he expecting anyway? She is an engaged woman. But they still needed to talk.

Drake went to the dining room and found all of them having breakfast. Riley looked radiant, like just out of magazine. She didn’t even look at him and he understood the whole situation was uncomfortable for her.

“Well, well, well… speaking of the devil”. Said Madeleine.

“Good morning, guys”.

Hana stood up from her chair and hugged him. “It’s so great to have you back”.

“Yeah I figured it was time”.

Liam looked between him and Riley. They were both avoiding looking at each other.

“When the guards told me you were back I couldn’t believe it. I’m so glad you decided to return, brother”. He said.

“Thanks, Liam.”

They ate in silence for a moment, adjusting to the fact that Riley and Drake were on the same room without the slightest idea of what happened last night.

“Dear, Riley. I would like to join you but we have some matters to attend”. Liam said while quietly getting up the table. He extended his hand to Madeleine.

“Don’t worry. I know the palace like the back of my hand.” She smiled.

Liam mentioned that in one of the galleries of the palace there was a new collection of paintings of an American artist Riley knew pretty well. She was the one that recommended it to him back in time.

“I would love to come with you, little blossom, but art isn’t really my thing.”

“Yeah, and I have to leave too”. Said Hana with a nervous smile.

“Don’t worry guys. I’ll catch up with you later”.

Riley stood up and walked out of the room. Drake looked at his friends.

“Nice try, kids. But it’s not going to happen”. He understood their intentions. They refused going with Riley because they hoped she would ask Drake instead.

“It was worth a shot”. Said Maxwell laughing.

After a couple of hours, Drake joined Bastien and a couple of guards to catch up on the situation on the stables, where he was planning to return to work. He got distracted when one of them said something he could never imagine.

“Mr. Walker, could you attend your girlfriend this morning?”

“Girlfriend? Who?”

“Miss Nina Galanis. She came to the palace around two hours ago, saying she needed to speak with you some important matters. She looked really agitated, sir.”

“Why did you let her in?”

“She said she was your girlfriend. She was really convincing about it. She knew you arrived last night”.

‘Shit’ he thought. What was she even doing there? How could she dare to come to the palace? He didn’t have a good feeling about it.

“She is not my girlfriend, we need to find her. Now”. He said as they walked back inside the palace.

Riley was standing in the gallery, with an amused look while she traced the painting with her delicate fingers. She remembered the night she told Liam about this artist, and back then she couldn’t afford to buy one. Now Liam had the amazing detail to buy all those paintings and make her part of it.

“TV really doesn’t make you justice”. She heard a cold voice behind her. She turned quickly and found an unknown woman behind her. She didn’t stop looking at her with those deep and pale green eyes. Riley didn’t know why but she felt really uncomfortable.

“Um, that’s nice of you to say”. She turned her attention back to the painting she was observing before being interrupted. She felt the woman moving a few steps to her right, still too close to her.

“You know, I never really understood what’s the appealing of being famous. Looking so perfect all the time. Is it tiring?” she asked.

Riley felt bitterness in her voice, she had the feeling something was strange but decided to stay quiet.

“Very”. Said with a light nervous smile.

Nina’s voice was acid when she spoke again. “And how does it feel to be loved by everyone?”

“Not everyone loves me. I’m sure there are tons of people that dislike me.” Riley said trying to disimulate the creeps she was giving to her.

“He loves you.” She stopped right next to her. Riley looked at her puzzled. Who was she talking about?

“Who?”

“Drake”. Nina’s eyes were cold on her, and she felt shivers through her spine.

“Look, I don’t know who you are or what do you want, but I think you got the wrong person”. She managed to say without sounding so nervous.

“Oh, no, no. I know perfectly you’re the right one”.

“I’m sorry. I have to go”. Riley turned to go and then she heard it. The cold flick of a gun pointing at her.

“No, you don’t. We are just getting started”.

Bitterness - Part III of Duty

Author’s note: I finally got inspiration from this chapter for a title. The hardest part is over, I promise. Now to work on cobbling this family back together. Last week’s chapter when Liam takes MC through the historic center of the capital gave me inspiration and I had to rewrite some parts. Thanks for sticking with me, your support is everything to me. If you’re new to this series here’s Part I and Part II.

Summary: In the days following Liam’s passing, Riley is forced into many difficult conversations involving arrangements for Liam and breaching the subject of Liam’s death with her daughter. Old faces return to Cordonia, leaving her in ways some ways more broken than before. She and Ellie prepare to leave the capital to grieve privately.

Word count: 2846, this felt longer. I guess there’s a lot of dialogue.

The state dinner was scheduled last minute and Liam rushes out to greet their guests while she reads Eleanor her bedtime story. It was unconventional for Liam to greet guests to the palace without her, but their schedule had been thrown off with this last minute visit. She tucks in Eleanor and kisses her eyelids as her daughter begins to doze off. Closing the door behind her, she crosses the hallway to their bedroom. She sits at her vanity, her hands delicately running over the jewelry she had haphazardly thrown out in a rush to wear tonight. She slides the delicate hair pin into her braid at her temple and brings the string of pearls to her neck, fastening it and allowing her fingers to slide over each tiny pearl before meeting at the front where the pearl Liam had given her in the grotto was threaded into the necklace. She slides her hand into a beautiful gold bangle, ornately decorated with Chinese characters and flowers, a gift from Hana for their wedding.

Looking up, she dabs her finger at the edges of her lips and corners of her eyes, deciding to touch up her makeup slightly before rising. She leaves their room, walking into the kitchen where the remnants of the quick dinner with Eleanor are still on the countertop. On Liam and Ellie’s plates the crusts of their grilled cheese sandwiches were still intact. She smiles as she clears the plates and places them in the sink to be washed later. Pillows are tossed about the living room and a tiny lopsided fort fort stands in the middle. She remembers Liam and Ellie playing in there as she made their sandwiches. A tiny knock comes from the door and when she opens it, the night nanny bows slightly, greeting her before entering.

“Ellie’s just gone to bed, you’re in for a pretty boring night. Help yourself to whatever you’d like,” Riley calls out over her shoulder before stepping into the rest of the palace.

It is far too quiet in the small breakfast nook. Riley sits across from Eleanor as she munches her way through some waffles and berries. She hates that she avoided her yesterday after her trip to the hospital, she curses at herself for dragging this on. She isn’t sure how Eleanor had missed the whispers of the staff and the pitied looks they were getting. Perhaps she had noticed, but in her perfect innocent way, hadn’t thought they were for her.

Hi loves, I feel like I’ve been kind of MIA lately on the writing front and I need to apologize because grad school and exams have taken over my life and consumed every part of my being and I just wanted to say I’m sorry and that I love all of you for sticking around and still following my silly ramblings and reblogs the past few weeks! You’re all so amazing and it has given me LIFE reading all of the amazing fics that have been coming out. Seriously I’m so inspired by every one of you!

That being said, next week all of this grad school craziness should have died down and I should *gasp* finally have time to write for fun again!

A Road to Nowhere - Liam x Isabella

Synopsis: Anti-Monarchy attacks have become more frequent since the Five Kingdoms Festival. Rallies by the Cordonian Liberation Core have called for Liam to stand down, for him to take heed of what the people of Cordonia want. He must decide what is in the best interests of Cordonia and its people. Brought this into my AU of Liam x Isabella to explore this in more detail. - Note some violence, threats, foul language (hey it’s a fanfic of mine.. so there will be swearing, yes…) If you don’t feel comfortable or don’t like that kind of stuff, please don’t read under the jump!

Isabella gently placed her hand on her husband’s stiffened shoulder, her fingers curling into his collarbone - each fingertip massaging the skin underneath gently, “Liam, mi amor, you need to come to bed… you need to sleep” Liam sank his head into his hands and he inhaled deeply, his bloodshot eyes fixated on his office table surrounded by mountains of legislature and memoranda. He sat in silence, slumped against the table as Isabella stood beside him, he hadn’t slept in days since the initial rally cry from the Cordonian Liberation Core requesting that he dissolve the Monarchy. Their cries rang through his head, “Our wonderful King Liam Rys, What has he done for us? All he has done is put our Cordonian citizens in danger!! We demand a Cordonian Republic!” The sound of the crowds cheering and clapping pushed him overboard.

Isabella felt Liam’s shoulders square as his hands deftly craft into two fists, mercilessly slamming onto the table before him. His face glowed red as he sighed heavily. How ungrateful? I dedicated my life to this country… Isabella perched herself on the side of Liam’s table as she wore a jade green silk nightgown and matching nightdress. The Queen Consort was due to give birth to their second and third child in a matter of weeks. Raising Liam’s chin towards her, her bright warm inviting brown eyes smiled at him; speaking in her thick Spanish dialect, “You can’t let this get you to mi amor, there’ll will always separatists and they will not always agree with what you do…”

Liam wearily smiled as he kissed her hand gently. “Go to bed beautiful… I’ll be down soon…” Isabella raised her eyebrow knowing full well he’d be falling asleep at his desk again as he had done every night that week. Isabella slid off of the table edge as she walked towards the door whilst Liam returned to the task at hand looking through more old books. She stopped at the doorframe, looking back at her husband over her shoulder. The words she wanted to say wouldn’t leave her throat as she silently sighed before closing the door behind her. She wanted to shake him, wanted him to realise that not all the answers are held in a book, some are held in his heart.

Isabella walked past as Bastien nodded. Her hand gesturing back towards the door to Liam’s office as she kept walking, “Bastien, please go speak with my husband because he won’t listen to me…” Bastien rolled his eyes as he nodded again, knowing she wouldn’t notice as she disappeared down the north corridor into the darkness. It was common knowledge throughout the whole Kingdom that the Queen Consort didn’t wear the Crown on her shoulders as heavily as the King did. Yes, Isabella didn’t care for the insults thrown at her but she completed her civic duty as required.

Liam on the other hand couldn’t cope, his whole life revolved around serving his citizens and to do right by them. The sneering comments, the smirking faces when they burned an effigy of Queen Kenna – made his blood boil. Each day the Cordonian Liberation Core were recruiting new members, instigating and soliciting propaganda through the streets. Yes, the Royal Guard attempted to arrest members, but the harder the punishment the Crown subjected on the separatists, the more sympathy they received. Liam couldn’t do right from wrong. His brain screamed as he tried to read, book after book – page after page, aligning them to reports received from the Government. He felt as if he was the puppet and the whole of the Kingdom was the puppet-master, pulling at his limbs, tearing his very heart and soul apart.

Bastien knocked gently on the office door before opening slowly. Liam jumped up against his Cordonian Ruby red leather high backed chair startled; he had fallen asleep. Bastien reaches for his radio asking for the Kitchen Staff to bring coffee to the King’s Office immediately. As Bastien stared at Liam, his brow raised; Liam shook his head in embarrassment and an attempt to wake himself up. “Sorry Bastien… I…” Bastien smiles warmly in Liam’s direction, “You don’t need to explain Your Majesty… The Queen was right to ask me to check in on you…” Liam’s palm slammed against his forehead in frustration, “oh no…shit” Bastien chuckled as he sat in front of Liam as a large cafetière arrived with two bone china cups, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell Her Majesty I found you snoring…”

The smell of the coffee filled the room, awakening Liam by its very scent. Whilst the maid poured the coffee, Bastien’s eyes trace Liam’s demeanour. The Young King aged over the last week by years due to worry and anxiety. Whilst Liam took a long drink of his coffee, the maid scurried out of the room as Bastien gestured for her to leave. Liam sighed as he places the cup onto the saucer, “Bastien, may I ask you to be frank with me?” Bastien nodded, “As always Your Majesty.” Liam’s eyes glazed over, he was hurt, tired and mostly afraid of what was going to happen next; “Are we doing the right thing? Bastien raised his brow puzzled by the question, “Your Majesty-?”

Liam slowly pushes out his chair, walking towards a large bookshelf. As he spoke, his eyes slowly scanned the different titles of Cordonian history books in front of him. “Would it be a bad idea if Cordonia did become a Republic? Is that what the majority of citizens want?” Bastien was shocked at the King’s inclination of even entertaining the thought made his blood boil. Bastien spoke with utter authority as he straightened himself as he stood, standing firmly behind Liam. “Firstly Your Majesty, it is not the appetite of the majority of Cordonians and secondly it is quite frankly preposterous that you would even consider such nonsense. You are sleep deprived, please just rest.”

Liam turned to Bastien and smiled, his hand patting Bastien’s shoulder, “Thank you my friend, let’s start planning tomorrow…” Bastien laughed, “Your Majesty, you do realise it’s 3am, it is tomorrow…” Liam shook his head foolishly. His eyes attempted to focus on the dial of the watch as he kept blinking. “I suppose…” Liam pinched the top of his nose between his eyes as he tried to stifle a yawn. He and Bastien left the office before Liam tiredly walked towards his and Isabella’s suite. As he entered their bedroom, he sleepily kicked off his shoes, taking off his clothes down to his boxers. He was too tired for anything else. Slipping in beside his wife, he cuddled into her closely as his hand caressed her bump, falling asleep within seconds as soon as his head hit the pillow.

The next morning, Isabella awoke to find Liam still in bed, he had missed his morning run. As she put on a floral wrap dress, she kissed her husband’s head gently as she smiled, brushing his hair with her hand, “I’ll see you later mi amor, te amo!” Liam rolled into her hand as he smiled in his sleep. Isabella quickly exited before she woke him up looking back at him, she smirked – finally that worry line across his head was gone as he slept. As Isabella pulled the door closed, she hoped, no – she prayed that he would get at least a few more hours to clear his mind.

Liam jumped up as the sound of a shrill piercing alarm which flooded through the Palace walls. The alarm was only ever used if the Palace was under immediate danger. His head turned looking for his wife in a panic, she was already gone. Fuck where is she?? He jumped out of bed throwing on sweatpants and a t-shirt as he screamed her name with no reply as he raced down the corridor.

Liam’s phone rang, he stopped. Looking out through one of the windows at the Castle grounds, protestors had disabled the security gates and were climbling over the Palace walls. His eyes widened in horror watching his own citizens throwing Molotov cocktails, stones, bricks – whatever they could get their hands on towards the Palace and Cordonian Royal Guard. Liam shaking, finally answered his phone; the colour draining from his face as he listened to each word Bastien said carefully. “Your Majesty… they have the Queen surrounded…” Liam sprinted through the long corridors and down the staircase towards the main entrance.

The Royal Guard tried to hold Liam back behind the cordon as he heard his wife screaming towards the crowd. He watched helplessly as she walked up to the leader of the group, a rather insignificant man - 5’8”, balding, the shape of a barrel who smirked at Isabella each time she rebutted any of his statements. He called her a whore, he called her a traitor to the Kingdom, announcing to the crowd that all the Monarchy do is leech off of the poor. As the man moved closer to her, Isabella extended her hands towards his chest pushing him back angering him more.

Isabella’s eyes widened in fear as his face reddened, the vein in his neck throbbing. Using the back of his hand he smacked her with force across the face roaring “You… Laurentian bitch…” leaving an imprint of his hand across her face. The impact left Isabella unsteady on her feet as she fell backwards, knocking her head off the ground. The man spat towards the ground before looking over his shoulder, grinning at the crowd as they cheered, waving their placards in the air.
