people using generative ai to write fanfiction for them is CRAZY. stay up until four in the morning hopping back and forth between your pinterest boards, a random synonyms website, and google docs where you’re stuck in the middle of a sentence deciding whether to refer to a character by their name or hair colour as the lord intended.

There was a poll going around a couple days ago about your "automatic no"s for fanfic, and along with the things I expected (formatting, grammar, POV, etc), quite a few people listed short fics as reasons not to click. I'm not judging (I used to be that person, but with AO3's tags there are better ways for me to filter), but as someone who specializes in short fic, it did make me think.

What is your "niche" as a fanfic writer

Drabble (exactly 100 words)

Ficlet (>5000 words)

Vignette (5000-10,000 words)

Mid-length, "one-shot" (10,000-25,000)

Mid-length, chaptered (25,000-100,000)

LongFic (100,000+)

I write series, so a bunch of fics of varying lengths, linked
