Stars bursting in the sky
Hear the sad nova's dying cry
Shimmering memory, come and hold me
While you show me how to fly

I started out 2020 aiming to listen to every China Cat > Rider and determine my favorite. Things got a little weird along the way and I kinda switched to Bertha halfway through the year. Still haven’t listened to every last one, but 10/1/77 is currently the one. For the most part, I was able to listen to at least one full show a day.
Getting the year started off at Winterland in 1972, this show has an absolutely mind-melting Good Lovin’ that gets so far out there you’d never think it would come back until it just flows right into a righteous China Cat. Totally caught me off guard. Here’s to hoping 2021 continues to surprise in a good way.
“I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life. And I am horribly limited.”
— Sylvia Plath (b. 27 October 1932)
I just liked to have a lot of fun, and I didn't like people who took themselves too seriously... and the Dead were so into absurdity, which is one of my favorite things in the world.
