02. 너는 나만큼 (Growing Pains)

I’m almost never serious, and I’m always too serious. Too deep, too shallow. Too sensitive, too cold hearted. I’m like a collection of paradoxes.
Ferdinand de Saussure (via wordsnquotes)
always in the mood for you.

"You’re welcome, Kyuhyun," Luna told him with a warm smile on her face. A laugh escaped her lips before she shook her head. "No, it’s not really polite to interupt someone while they are talking. But, hey, monologuing isn’t so bad when someone who is interested in it is listening."
Her eyes momentarily shifted to Kyuhyun’s hands watching his fingers glide up the side of the mug, then, shifted her gaze back to his. Another small, this time bigger, appeared on the kitsune’s face when Kyuhyun was talking about Japan. “I miss Japan, too. One day I may go back for a visit, scope out an area to live in perhaps. Which part of Japan did you stay or visit around? I think the two biggest things I miss about Japan is the view of Mount Fuji and all of the Sakura blossoms falling from the trees. Magnificent sights.” Luna shifted slightly in her chair before exhaling slowly as she was remincing those beautiful sights she had seen years ago. “I actually went to Japan a few years back for a “business” trip. But, anyways, I understand. Sometimes its awkward talking about ourselves.”
“I stayed in Tokyo, but I visited Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya and Okinawa. As I said I was studying in Japan for a few months, so we had field trips because it was in the program, and whenever I had a few days off, I travelled with other students as well. It was a nice experience, and sometimes I miss Japan, and I want to go back some day—I need to find time to go on vacation.”
Kyuhyun wiggled his legs under the table and then stretched them out carefully, not wanting to hit Luna by mistake. “I assume you are fluent in Japanese, am I right? I tried to learn as much as I could, and I can have a conversation with someone, but sometimes I struggle to remember the words. I guess it’s because I never practiced again once I came back to Korea.” He chuckled. “Which reminds me, do you speak other languages? If I had as much time as you do, I’d definitely learn as many languages as I could, or at least the ones I like the most.”
Truthfully, HiroJi just wanted to embrace the young man walking beside him. Young man who had been forcefully thrown into a situation he really had never wanted, and or for that matter asked for. A lot of cases for werewolves were like this. A lot of them had been unwillingly dragged into it and some took to it a lot better than others.
Some were so overwhelmed that they just couldn’t deal with it, and well they were the ones that became rogues and renegades and or the werewolves everyone would talk about as the ones to be wary of. Then there were those that tried coping with their problem as best as they could. They would hide it from everyone, and deal with it when it came. HiroJi firmly believed that Kyuhyun was that type. Just from what he’d just said. It was no surprise to hear his words.
The youngest Nakamura, unlike Kyuhyun, had actually been born into it. His mother had been part of a pack, and well it had been a lot more complicated than just being born a werewolf.
He didn’t think this hindered him from trying to lead a normal life. It was just an enhancement. At this point, he wanted to tell that to Kyu, to tell him this really wasn’t all that bad. There really were very good points to being in this situation, but maybe he’d find them later and or talk to him about those. At the moment, his mind immediately went to the task at hand, and that was to find his brother. Hopefully, he was still alive. So far, HiroJi still felt him alive. And the reason he’d remained in this reality was mostly because he felt Ando was around here somewhere.
"These wolves… Are they very violent?" He needed to know what he was dealing with, what to expect from them, and at least a way to trick them so they could lead him to his brother.
Kyuhyun could say that he had never felt pity for himself, even though he used to question himself why it happened to him, and how he didn’t notice the small details when it came to the person who changed him—but it explained why he used to drawn to that person so much. Life hadn’t been easy after that, keeping so many secrets from everyone who knew him, making up excuses to justify his sudden disappearances or whenever he got in trouble when he couldn’t control his wolf. It was something he needed to learn how to live with and overcome his fear.
“They are.” He admitted bluntly. “There used to be two packs around that place. And they lived in isolation because they were too close to their wolves. Uh… what I mean is that their wolves are usually in control, more than their human side.” His memories were vivid. He remembered the cruelty, viciousness and torture of one of those packs—a pack that no longer exist, since it had been taken care of it. “But one of them is gone, the other, well... maybe they are around. I am not really sure.” He muttered with a shrug.
“Those wolves are extremely territorial, but we are almost there.” Kyuhyun picked up his pace, stuffing his hands inside the pockets of his jacket as he kept his gaze ahead, already recognizing some of the buildings when they were about to reach the place. He didn’t know if it was like that for other, but he could feel the change in the atmosphere—as if the air was heavier and colder. Looking around, somehow glad that the streets were empty, but he knew someone could jump in front of them out of nowhere. “If your brother landed here, he shouldn’t be far.”
Running from alley to alley managed the assassin to bring them to a save place, far away from the scene and from his apartment, he doesn’t want to find a new place soon, that’s why he ran in the other direction completely the opposite of his usually way. With a last check, confirmed Yesung that the templars weren’t after them now. “It’s alright now…” mumbled the assassin and slid down the wall, he was starting to fell more dizzy and that’s not a good sign. “They didn’t saw your face, so don’t worry about it… You’re safe…” Yesung managed to look at the young man for the last time, before darkness consumed him.
With his body pressed up against the wall, the sight of the other in front of him already has Kyuhyun thinking about finally catching his breath after so much running. “I swear that you have to explain yourself because I don’t understand any of this.” He breathed out, his gaze fixated on the other—soon his eyes widening when the other slid down the wall. He quickly reached for him, patting his cheek to wake him up, to keep him conscious. “Wake up, please.” He muttered as he looked over his face, knowing the blood lost was affecting him. What should he do? Take him to a hospital? To his place? Were they safe? Kyuhyun sighed again and looked inside his pockets for a tissue to press it against the wound to stop it from bleeding.
"All I want to do is to sleep for a whole week-- and I should before sleep deprivation hits me and I embarrass myself."

"I’m just interested." Jonghyun nods, puffing his cheeks out and smiles softly. "They’re… Fascinating creatures and I want to learn more about them. The behavior interested me the most." Tilting his head, he stares at the picture on the page before turning his attention to the male. "What about you?" He pauses before moving to sit on one of the benches, shifting his pile so the books are spread out and the titles can be seen.
"I like wolves." He admitted with a nod. "They are not only very beautiful animals to me, but also show a lot of interesting behaviour-- especially social behaviour. They are smart animals, capable of adapting to many different situations, and they show a lot of personality traits and also traditions." He shifted the weight of the books in arms, not because they were too heavy but because he hadn't held them properly as he was in rush to pick them up quickly. "I won't deny that also the mythological part about them fascinates me."
Luna reached over the small table and placed her hand lightly ontop of Kyuhyun’s reassuringly. She smiled at him warmly, “It’s good that you are learning. You’ll be better with control, but like I said I’m here if you need a friend and I do know a few kind werewolves too.” The kitsune removed her hand from Kyuhyun’s and sat back in her seat.
A smile appeared on her face as she listened to Kyuhyun talk about himself. It was interesting to her to hear from Kyuhyun. She was curious to know things about him as it would be fair since he asked so much about her. However, her nose wrinkled at the mention of China. Bad memories and horrible moments when she was living there. “I haven’t been in China, oh in a very long time. I think it’s been centuries. But, Japan, I miss there. I think Japan will be my next relocation, and omo, I’m interrupting you. Sorry, Kyuhyun, please continue.” Luna cupped her cheeks in embarrassment. It’s still Kyuhyun’s turn to talk.
Shifting his gaze up to face her, he gave a small yet sheepish smile. “Thank you.” He felt more confident since he had got in a pack—it had helped his wolf to remain calm. His gaze remained on her as he held the mug up to his mouth to drink the small amount of coffee left. “Oh no, don’t feel bad. Please feel free to interrupt me whenever you want, I don’t want to have a monologue.” He chuckled.
He set the now empty mug down on the table, his fingers running up and down the sides of it. “I miss Japan, it’s been a while since I visited it. I want to go soon—I just need to find the time, it’s difficult to have a break these days.” As he had just started to work at the hospital, he was aware that it would take some time for him to get a decent break, but he was willing to keep working as he liked the place and he didn’t want to lose a job again or run away in the worst case. “And I don’t know what else you’d like to know about me, you can ask away and I’ll answer honestly.” He smiled. “For some reason, it’s always difficult for me to talk about myself, it’s like my head suddenly goes blank.”
He was getting frustrated at the guy and as he was about to say something could he hear that a group came running to them. He gritted his teeth, seems he had no other choice…
The assassin grabbed the strangers arm and started to run, he felt he was about to faint, but he need to get the other man out of here. No matter how his attitude is to someone, he would never let an innocence being alone, once he dragged them in it. Now it was time to endure it, before he really faints.
Things were happening too quickly to his liking, he still didn’t understand how he had gotten caught up in this situation. Teeth biting through think flesh inside his cheeks, he let the other drag him along in a rush to escape from the people who were following them— With the beating of his heart in his ears, he didn’t dare to take another look in the direction of the noises, he focused on keeping the same pace as the stranger, and also a close look at him as he didn’t want the other to faint on him—they needed to find a place to hide first.
Eunhyuk groaned as he slid out of the car and stared at the building in front of him. Volunteer work. Fucking hell. When he left America to go to school in South Korea he’d thought he was through with that. But no, his teacher had informed him that he needed 60 hours if he wanted to graduate in time and given him a sheet of approved places he could go to. Scrunching his face in distaste, he sighed and walked dejectedly towards the door. Time to get this over with.
Upon entering the building, his nose was assaulted with an assortment of smells ranging from wet dog to a really strong lemony scent. Great, just what he needed. Blinking twice, he took a deep breath through his mouth and exhaled then rolled back his shoulders. Licking his lips, he quickly made his way to the front desk and smiled widely hoping it didn’t come off as fake.
“Hi, I’m Lee Hyuk Jae. I called about volunteering here a few days ago and they said for me to come in today.”
Kyuhyun has started his early shift already. He was making his rounds already, checking on the animals that were staying overnight. Most of the animals were asleep. The stray kitten from the previous day was still sleeping as the antibiotics worked to stop the infection in its paw from getting worse, the ferret was lying on its back with its chest rising and falling in slumber, and the puppy was starting to stir.
He knew there was someone coming to the clinic that day—he usually was the one working with volunteers and also students who applied to make their internship in the clinic. He wasn’t told much about the person who was coming, but he was glad he’d get some help, since it was going to be a busy day.
After a few minutes and when he was done with his round, he headed to the front desk to check up the list of patients who had an appointment with him. Staring at the computer screen, his gaze shifted at the other’s voice, a polite smile on his lips. “Ah you’re the one who is volunteering today. I’m Cho Kyuhyun, one of the vets that work here.” He straightened up and moved from behind the desk. “I was told I’d be working with you.”
Kyu, I'm sad. Nobody wants to be my friend anymore except you and Yunnie. /dramatic pouts/
/Chuckling, he lifts his hand to brush his fingers over your hair slowly/ Oh no, Changminnie is sad. I'm sure that there are people who want to be your friend. But I hope Yun's and my affection are enough for now. /he smiles/
"It’s nice doing various jobs since you won’t always be bored. But, there are times I would like to have the freedom of not worrying if I want to take a spontaneous vacation. It wasn’t like I could really tell my boss or whoever, ’ Hey I need a few days off because I’m getting really moody’," she said before rolling her eyes at past memories. It was very difficult to convince a few past bosses that she needed a few days off sometimes due to ‘mating’ cycles even though the kitsune never had sex during those short periods. Luna wasn’t ready for that.
"Sadly, it might happen to you. You’re a wolf now and you have powers that humans don’t have. But, be careful of your weakness too," she murmured before picking up her tea to take a small sip. She exhaled slowly before looking back at Kyuhyun warmly. "Hm, I’m not really sure, I guess. Maybe I could work one day at a hospital or something. That could help me put me back into place and not be so cruel or evil or whatever the hell my alignment would be." The kitsune straightened herself up in the seat, "what about you, Kyuhyun? I feel like you are learning more about me and I want to know about you too."
“I am careful most of the time. I still am getting used to this new... life, you could say. It’s difficult to accept and learn how to live with a wolf. Even more when he’s a complete different entity from myself. Sometimes I feel like I’m trapped in my own body or mind—that’s whenever he decides to take over.” He stretched out his legs under the table as he stuffed a piece of muffin in his mouth. “But as I said, I’m learning, and it’s getting better. But it’s still difficult during full-moon or when it’s close to it. It’s complicated to handle him.” The process was long, and he wasn’t even half there, but he still had to keep trying.
“What about me? Well... I like what I do, I enjoy being a veterinarian. So you could say I have a dream job.” He smiled. “I’d like to travel more, I don’t know if around the world, but I’d like to visit different places and countries. There was a time when I used to travel a lot, and I went abroad several times—I spent time in Japan and China, and I also got the chance to be in Germany.” To Kyuhyun, it was always an adventure to travel abroad, to visit new places. “Japan and China were mainly for my studies, and Germany was a vacation somehow.”
"Wolves?" Jonghyun glances up and grins. "That’s funny actually—" He pulls one of the books out of the middle of the stack. "I was looking for stuff about them too. I’m studying them right now." It isn’t a lie, Jonghyun is actually teaching himself about them but it’s something that has a purpose and not really just for pleasure reading. "I was actually reading about Greek things last week."
His eyes widen for a moment in surprise and amusement as they both were looking for the same topic to read about. "Oh really?" He chuckles, with a small shake of his head. "Are you studying them because it's a popular topic nowadays, or because you're interested in them?" Kyuhyun knows that with all the movies and books that have been released, the topic about wolves and mythology is popular-- but the reason for him to study them is completely different.
