“yeah, well. One slip up and I’ll have both sides against me” Amelia shrugged, avoiding her old side was easy, if she didn’t leave or stray too far from the union she would be fine. Where’d she hid if both turned on her? She had no idea. “Hmmm maybe a little late for that” she laughed.

“Well, hopefully you’ve learned your lesson and won’t” she then gave a small smile, finding it much easier to talk to the woman for once. It was...Nice. “Perhaps” she then shrugged lightly. “Are you settling in alright, especially with the sleeping arrangements?”

“As long as it’s dark I’m not worried.” Amelia shrugged, they didn’t frighten her. She doubted it would be long before she ran into someone. “Yeah, basically” She chuckled, she didn’t miss those days. “We aren’t trying to kill each other and you are complementing me? Am i dreaming?”

Fawna sighed and shook her head “That’s alot of them against you, Amelia. You don’t have to big yourself up to me” she pointed out, pursing her lips slightly for a moment at the thought. “Maybe you have just earned it, don’t let it go to your head” she chuckled.

“And just where have you gotten to, lately?” Fawna wondered in a sharp tone when she laid her eyes on her daughter, the woman pointing at her before motioning her over with a curl of her finger “You had me worried sick, especially with everything that has been happening. You really must starting taking care of yourself more, Lion Cub. Or at least allowing the family to do so more”

Amelia nodded her head, take charge, easier said than done she thought. “oh you know, since I’ve gotten use to this whole freedom thing. I can walk down the street and not worry about being surrounded by at least three swat teams and being sent to prison for the rest of my life. I’d like to keep it that way” 

“All you have to worry about now is seeing your old team mates” she chuckled and then leaned over, pressing the buzzer for assistant “Marie, two coffees please” she said simply before letting go of the buzzer “Well, at one point you might as well have had your hand stamped on the way out from prison. Just think about how far you’ve come already and you know I don’t give our compliments easily.

“I suppose” Amelia shrugged, she wasn’t feeling very hopeful but was grateful for the advice she was being given. Fawna was smart and logical, all the things Amelia wasn’t. Having her input helped. “How long before that becomes the reason I’m locked away? How long before people get too jumpy and think I’m spying or something because i never showed any want to change before?”

“Do more than suppose, Amelia. Take charge” The red head pointed out, tapping ash from her cigarette as she took a moment to pause. “The trust might never be fully there, Amelia. But what matters is that you just continue to prove everyone wrong and do things for yourself” she said simply “Since when have you ever lived for the validation of others?”

“Well, I’ve never been good at making the right choices” Amelia shrugged, she was most certainly a shoot first ask questions later kind of person.Always letting her emotions get the best of her. “Yeah right, it’s something I chose, she was raised to be like that, moulded, she doesn’t know any different. How is she suppose to fall in line when she doesn’t think the line exists? I imagine she hates me right now, leaving the Society and abandoning her”

“God, I feel like I’ve become my mother. Abandoning my daughter for my own pursuits.”

Fawna pursed her lips and looked down, calculating just what to say to the other “Perhaps you could reach out to her, you know that the Society hides behind alot of smoke and mirrors and you can tell her that” she offered “I am sure she will know that you left for a reason and as angry as she is, she will still want her answers” she then licked her lips as she considered her next words “This one was different, this one you showed you were trying to change. That didn’t happen before”

“I…I learnt to read for her, you know? In prison I took classes, improved my skills. All for her and when I got out and she was gone I” She didn’t need to continue, she knew Fawna was likely well aware of her little rampage after her release back into society. She was so angry at losing her she never thought she’d feel anything else ever again. “Was? Is. Yeah, she’s mine. She looks like me, walks like me but is just so much better and I did the only thing I seem to be good at. I fucked her up. Raised her to think being a villain is the way to go, that there is nothing better.”

“I Know you did. You’ve tried and I’ll admit that I can see that, Amelia. You just weren’t wise with the choices that followed once you finally left prison” she pointed out. “Well” The woman began as she processed the information “If you can be convinced that what the Shadow Society are doing is wrong, then she may fall into line and see it too?” she offered, the red head always somewhat hopeful. She felt she needed to be with all the pessimists around her.

I miss having privacy and my own space” Amelia chuckled, before dropping her head. “As much as I hate the way you did it, i wished you told me but I’m glad it was you who had her” And she was being honest. She was glad Fawna raised her, she never once doubted her ability to be a good mother. Something Amelia doubted she could ever be. “Ever notice the kid who would join me sometimes? Yeah, not just a kid I got attached to.”

“Well, we need it more so than ever these days” she agreed, taking another slow more calculated drag on her cigarette. “Well, at the time there felt to be little option, I was only thinking of her” she then gave a nod “She never wanted for anything and I made sure of it. I was always open to the idea of if you turned your life around that you could be in her life, you just....Didn’t” she sighed. “She was one of yours too?” she then shook her head “Christ, Amelia”

“So I’ve heard. I hope she doesn’t give me whiplash how fast she changes her mind. I like this freedom thing. Even if it means spending almost every waking moment with screaming teens” she chuckled, oh how those kids could get on her nerves with their endless talking and noise. Some even talk in their sleep which, as funny as it could be, was something Amelia wished would stop. Their bed time was her quiet time. “I wish I could take all the things I did to her back. Except the part where she ended up with you. I don’t regret that, not anymore.” Amelia swallowed hard, fighting back any emotions that had bubbled in her over the last few months since her defection to the Union. “I wish had the hindsight to do the same with her sister, done anything that would have gotten her away from me” 

“Well, you know that if you keep working at earning trust and getting better, you’ll be able to move out of that dorm and into your own room. Besides, they might all be teenagers but I’m sure you could use the company” The red head replied simply and sat back. “I always made sure to care for Diana as if she were my own. That child needed the start in life that she hadn’t been afforded, we both wanted that” she murmured, blowing out more smoke. “Her sister?”

Amelia dropped her arms to her sides, grateful for the chance to rest. She didn’t realise just how much work went into these uniforms. Certainly came a long way from the days of her ripped jeans and hoodie. “Do I want to know?” she questioned as Fawna slipped her phone away. “You’d be surprised by the motivations of some. The world isn’t all black and white.” Some had no choice, others raised to think it was the right thing. They didn’t deserve to be tarnished with the same brush as those who did know what they were doing. just like her. “Still surprised they didn’t throw me in a cell and lose the key. I’m waiting for it to happen.” she commented, hopping up and sitting down on the nearest clear space “I can’t say no one told me that. Thirty years too late is better than never though, right?”

“Probably not” she chuckled and then went to sit herself down, crossing one leg over the other, she lit up her cigarette and took a deep drag on it. The fact she was alone with Amelia was so odd for her. She couldn’t escape the feeling of wanting to slap her after everything and it made the woman realize just how much she had been sitting on for so long. “They still stand by destruction” she said simply, blowing out smoke. “It could still happen, Liberty has been known to change her mind on things” she mused. “I just wish it had been sooner, it would have saved you and Diana so much pain”

“You would” Amelia chuckled, staying as still as possible as Fawna worked around her. “No fairy tale ending but at least it’s going to be better than it could have been, right?” She wasn’t looking to get her back, she knew she had done her dash with her decades ago but that didn’t mean she didn’t want to be back, at very least, even ground with her. She hated to admit it but a part of her still loved her, despite everything. “I believe the preferred term is Villain and not low lives” She replied with a grin. “If I’m being honest…I like this better”

“I suppose so” she said carefully, taking a small break and gesturing to the other that she could relax her arms, the red head taking out her phone and snapping a couple of shots for the studio. The red head carefully slipped away her phone and met the others eyes “They’re all low lives, doing what they can to get by and cause destruction for those around them. This has always suited you better, it just took you long enough to realize that. Good to see some sense was knocked into you for once.”
