Roughed in a quick minimalist logo for my pretend Orange Mist company for my vfx project. Also made a quick product mockup for fun.
Yipee! Finally got that juicy orange look I was going for. Still a little fine tuning to do.
Work in progress vfx shot, still some fine-tuning to do but you get the idea.
Progress texturing, kind of. Got some sub surface scattering on there now to make it look juicier.. but still LOTS of adjustments to make. Not sure which orange texture I like better...
SUPER rough comp of my cg arm and the live footage, just to make sure it's going to work and stuff. Looks absolutely terrible right now because the cg textures are not all coming through yet and I was rough with the rotoscoping, but you get the idea.
Started modeling and texturing the cg arm and orange innards for my vfx project. I modeled the orange part to look like the human anterior forearm muscles and basically just textured them like the inside of an orange, instead of doing orange wedges.. but I'm not sure if it's really reading as 'the inside of an orange'... it kind of just looks disgusting to me right now, especially with the bump texture I added, which is making it look horrifically 3D.. xD Next steps will be to make the edges of the arm look more peely and realistic, and continue working on the textures to get them as realistic as possible. Gotta add sub surface scattering and find a way to add some orangey looking pulp, especially around the edges of the skin. Don't worry, the actress didn't pull her actual skin off.. we ended up using white glue to make some fake skin on top of her real skin.
VFX Pitch
The concept is an advertisement for an after-sun lotion called 'Orange Mist'. Open on a shot of a woman sunbathing. Still sunbathing, she feels an itch on her arm but when she scratches her arm, her skin feels strange. She then she looks at down at the skin on her arm and it's super sun burnt and starting to peel, to her dismay. You can see some edges that are raised already. She picks at the peeled skin and some of it peels off (in an orange peel-like fashion) in a strip down most of the length of her bicep and forearm to reveal her inner flesh, but instead of blood and gore, it literally looks like the inside of a juicy orange. Cut to surprised expression. Then cut to a product shot showing a bottle of the product (textured cg model) while a narrator says something to the effect of "Spend a little too much time in the sun? Don't end up like Cindy here, try the new 'Orange Mist' after-sun lotion. Helps sooth sunburned skin and prevents dryness and peeling! "
Frame 1: opening shot, girl is sunbathing Frame 2: girl's arm feels itchy, she scratches it, but it feels odd to the touch Frame 3: she looks down at her arm and is surprised to see her arm is all sunburned and peeling Frame 4: She picks at the peeling skin (who could resist?) Frame 5: her skin peels off in a long strip, to reveal the inside of her arm, but it looks like the inside of an orange Frame 6: Surprised expression Frame 7: Product shot with descriptive audio/product spiel
Film location!
Reference images gathered from the internet for peeling sunburned skin, the inside of an orange (love the shiney juicy look), some arm muscle anatomy (might make the orange innards look like human muscles), and a reference for a product shot at the end.
