All of the canidae!
On this day, 13 May 1985, Philadelphia police attacked the home of Black liberation and environmentalist group MOVE with automatic weapons, then dropped a bomb on it, killing five adults and six children, destroying 61 homes in the predominantly Black neighbourhood, and making 250 people homeless. Almost 500 police officers fired over 10,000 rounds of ammunition into the house, which was filled with women and children, while other officers blew holes in the walls with explosives. The police commissioner then ordered the house to be bombed, which they did using an improvised device made from C4 given to them by the FBI. Only two people survived the blast and ensuing fire: Ramona Africa, and Michael Ward, aged 13. While no officials were prosecuted, Ramona Africa was subsequently jailed for seven years on riot and conspiracy charges. The incident occurred during the tenure of Philadelphia’s first Black mayor, a Democrat named Wilson Goode. The children killed were named Katricia Dotson (Tree), Netta, Delitia, Phil, and Tomasa Africa and the adults were Rhonda, Teresa, Frank, CP, Conrad, and John Africa. In April 2021, it was revealed that anthropologists at Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania had the bones of one of the children, unbeknownst to the families. * Learn more about institutional white supremacy in the police in this book: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/products/the-end-of-policing-alex-s-vitale https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1986639618187845/?type=3

DON'T LET THE BASTARDS GET YOU DOWN
Someone said “loved to the point of invention,” and I’m personally in shambles.
dont care + im running n jumping n frolicking n having fun
last network effect chapters destroyed me here's a shitpost
promise i'm not one of the bad faith weirdos but what made you decide to go vegan?
honestly a million different compounding moments and realizations im just gna put bullet points, sorry if this ends up annoyingly long
realizing my diet was already near vegan without trying to be and i felt better than i had in a long time
developing a dairy allergy lol. i think i was always sensitive to it (most humans are we r just not designed to have milk past infancy) but now i get like itchy and red so we hate that
learning about the pus in dairy honestly too which is for the best bc now dairy is offputting to me rather than smth i miss, i prefer my oat based cheeses and milks and desserts tbh
needing to cut back on spending and realizing its just a lot cheaper for me to not worry abt buying meat dairy eggs. a block of tofu costs me $1
this might sound silly but specific pieces of media including the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and some of the flesh based episodes of The Magnus Archives just really kickstarted deeper thinking for me on factory farming and the fear of slaughter and the lack of difference between me and any other animal
reading authors like Sylvia Wynter discussing the invention of Man and Man2, the construction of humanity as attached to a white european male ideal, and seeing that synthesized with vegan theoretics by Black vegans i follow on twitter and insta irt the constructions of both species and race, again kickstarted a lot of important internal conversations for me
following a bunch of vegans who just post really bomb recipes, and one who posts a lot of like scientific literature related to veganism that was very inspiring to me too
reading said literature and especially the ones that focus on environmental impact of animal agriculture and feeling like i really couldn't rationalize critiquing AI for excessive water usage while i was supporting smth even more destructive
also a vegan woman i follow on twt who i've def tagged in one of my other posts but who talked a lot abt veganism from a lesbian feminist perspective and talked abt the book the Sexual Politics of Meat and again rlly helped me start confronting the contradictions between my beliefs and behaviors in that regard
also might sound silly but literally getting on the right medication. when ur just barely surviving each day its really hard to make meaningful and positive changes. shout out to anti psychotics
learning about the working conditions of slaughterhouse and similar workers and the mental toll it inevitably takes
learning about how hog farms destroy and pollute poor Black communities and how destructive leather tanneries are too and usually for poor communities in the global south
not learning about but really dwelling on all the horrors humanity has caused to different animals through selective breeding practices that lower their quality of life for some kind of human benefit whether its producing more meat or wool or winning fancy cat competitions i guess (why did we make cats and dogs with flat faces who cant breathe)
reading the works of jewish vegans discussing our theology and bible from that perspective was also very touching and inspiring to me tbh
being a communist idk i just think capitalism encourages us to isolate and see each other as products and means to an end and like pieces of meat generally speaking, to treat certain people as disposable and sacrificial and necessary to step on for the benefit of others, and choosing to kill another living thing for my own temporary benefit feels like such an intense distillation of that n i would like to leave it behind
thats all i can think of rn and this is just what drove me personally, peace and love on planet earth
every day it gets harder to have a relaxed jaw and decent posture
ngl some of these posts sound shortsighted so i’m pulling out the Marjane Satrapi quote:
"You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same."
When Everything Everywhere All at Once said “The only thing I do know is that we have to be kind. Please, be kind, especially when we don’t know what’s going on"
When the Good Place said “Why choose to be good every day when there is no guaranteed reward now or in the afterlife… I argue that we choose to be good because of our bonds with other people and our innate desire to treat them with dignity. Simply put, we are not in this alone.”
When Jean-Paul Sartre said ”‘Hell is other people’ is only one side of the coin. The other side, which no one seems to mention, is also ‘Heaven is each other’. Hell is separateness, uncommunicability, self-centeredness, lust for power, for riches, for fame. Heaven on the other hand is very simple, and very hard: caring about your fellow beings.“
I know this has been said so many times in so many words but it is never any less infuriating that we never seem to have basic social services money but we always have fucking war crime money
fucking evergreen post I guess
maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.
some resources to learn more here:

A study spanning almost four decades and involving more than 100,000 adults in Denmark found that those with an 'overweight' body mass index
there's so much crazy shit once you go down the rabbit hole. for example, BMI was not invented by anyone with a medical background. it was never meant to measure individual health.
The U.S. weight loss industry reached an unprecedented high in 2023, estimated at $90 billion, largely driven by surging sales of the widely
Evidence is mounting that our body fat supports everything from our bone health to our mood, and now, research suggests it also regulates bl
just gonna reblog this forever because i love fat people and we deserve fuckin basic human dignity and respect regardless of our weight
a lot of people are ostensibly anti science denial until it comes down to three things and thats:
1. the fact that the BMI is a nonsense scale that predicts nothing about mortality or health outcomes (and further fat peoples' health outcomes are often influenced by the ramifications of medicalized fatphobia moreso than fatness itself)
2. sars cov 2 and the flu are fucking you and your community up repeatedly not "immunity debt" and masking and air filtration is really important to participate in / educate about / advocate for and
3. globally shifting to more plant based diets and ending factory farming is essential for reduction of global emissions and building a livable future for our environment as well as mitigating zootropic disease spread through animal agriculture
Let's outlive some motherfuckers this year
