Just came back from seeing Wicked: For Good and isn't it nice to have movie musicals again where people can actually sing

I saw a production of the Addams family musical this week and their Lucas (Wednesday's boyfriend) was so extremely heavily queer coded. I'm not too familiar with the musical so if anyone knows, is this what the source material usually goes for? Or was this production taking some creative liberties?
