The Mississippi Territory was organized in 1798 and encompassed both modern-day Mississippi and modern-day Alabama. Mississippi, in its current configuration, was admitted as the 20th state on Dec. 10, 1817.

The 2012 redesign of ms.gov gives users a wealth of new features. Among the new features is the addition of related agency content. From hunting and fishing license renewals, to resources for tourism, travel and transparency, users of ms.gov will find an ease of accessibility like never before.
ms.gov's new Online Services page allows users to easily access over 135 online services. Citizens now have 24-hour access to Mississippi government at their fingertips. With the ability to renew licenses, for everything from fishing to nursing, citizens can complete more in less time with the new ms.gov.

Among the new features of the 2012 re-design of ms.gov is an enhanced state agency directory. This one stop directory contains detailed agency contact information and an intuitive keyword search option. Users can also access ms.gov's "most searched for agencies" and "most viewed agency profiles." Staying in touch with State agencies has never been easier for Mississippians. With the addition of the new mapping feature on the new ms.gov, users now have the ability to find and navigate state resources using Google-based search technology. This technology helps to provide a unique experience for each visitor by providing custom weather reports, local events and "Did You Know" facts.
In January of 2012 ms.gov received its first redesign in over 10 years! With this redesign, ms.gov is now able to showcase Mississippi to the world like never before. Here is a before and after view of ms.gov.
In addition to the introduction of official Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr sites, ms.gov now offers a centralized, one-stop aggregator for Mississippi government social media. With over 24 feeds from 5 social media channels, MS:Buzz provides a wealth of real time posts via its vibrant and user-friendly interface.
Take ms.gov with you! The most recent release of ms.gov is accompanied by a robust mobile application, available as a free download to iPhone users. A first for Mississippi, the application includes features such as news, alerts and social media feeds integrated with native iPhone applications, mobile citizen photo submissions to ms.gov Flickr feed, and State entity mapping through the iPhone’s location services.
