When Aksel texted Matt with the travel info for their upcoming trip to Paris this weekend, he knew he doesn’t have a whole lot of time to get things taken care of before Friday. He bee lined for the bank to pay a visit to the safety deposit box he has there. Everything important and precious is kept in that box. On his way out he spotted a stray cat walking along the sidewalk. A random ass place to find a cat. He glanced around and saw a woman a short ways away. “This your kitty cat?” He knows there are people who take their cats out for walks and figured this might be one of those things.
Eliza’s head was almost always rattling off with things to do, she’d keep a list of all of it in the notes app on her phone. It seemed silly but she loved the joys of getting to cross things off. Especially when it meant when she was done she could do some relaxing. One of the things on her list was to stop by the bank, for some reason a check of hers wouldn’t deposit on the app. Her eyebrows furrowing when she saw a cat and someone not far behind it. When she heard his question she shrugged, “Oh it isn’t mine, such an odd place for a cat to be though.” She took a few steps closer, “Do you see a collar or anything?”
“I got you on the water thing. My sister gave me a giant water bottle. I have no idea how I’m supposed to carry around a gallon water bottle daily, but I’m determined.” It currently sat in her room halfway filled. “I don’t keep up with the food network but how much could it have changed?"
“Oh I’ve seen those before, those are quite interesting. I don’t think I’d be able to keep that around at work but at home possibly. Does it have that writing on the side to tell you how far you’re getting?” The little things would always amuse her. A sucker for mugs and cups. “Well I suppose not terribly but it seems like everyone under the sun has a cooking show now. They even have different baking shows for different seasons and holidays.. Supposedly there is one called Worst Cooks in America with Celebrities.”
Their daughter held onto her so tightly in that moment. Serena paused for a second before placing their daughters feet onto the ground. Prying her tiny intertwined hands from her neck she knelt down to her level. “ i’m right here, I promise okay? “ Serena spoke in a softened tone. She pushed stray pieces of hair behind her ears. They were not going anywhere and would have the whole afternoon for snuggling. “ Your Mama made your FAVORITE meal per your request. Why don’t we go, sit and eat. Then after you can snuggle up on the couch with me for the rest of the afternoon. “ Serena spoke slower and signed this time because honestly doing both was easier for things to not get lost in translation. She waited for her daughter to finally agree before taking her hand to the table so they could eat as a family. “ I missed you both, like crazy. I am so happy to just be home. “ Serena spoke to her wife as they gathered at the table. “ So, what did you guys do while I was gone? “
Eliza smiled softly watching Serena and their daughter, ready to support when needed. But she had a feeling Winnie needed to hear that everything would be okay from Serena. They had been with each other every moment since Serena was gone, it made sense to her why Winnie was so set on staying attached to her wife. Their daughter glanced up at her after taking in what Serena said and Eliza gave her an encouraging smile and nod. Showing off the food again. Finally when she agreed she sighed softly, “You and your magic words, darling.” She said sweetly as she carried Winnie’s plate over then coming back to grab her own and Serena’s. “Oh we had a wonderful time. We went on some adventures and watched movies. We even went to the library and the zoo.”
Verona had grown up with so many pets, so the idea that she only ever had one in her current home was such a strange concept. She could more than afford more company and deep down she didn’t want to feel so alone in her place. She wanted to feel like her home was warm and lived in and maybe more pets would help with that, while she sorted through some of her issues. “ What do you have so far?” Verona asked with a smile as she glanced at a particular black cat that seemed to have one or two tricks up his sleeve. “ He gets into a lot of trouble on his own but maybe with a friend it’ll prevent him from being so bored. It just depends on their personalities. Vincent is still young enough that it might work out okay “
“We have a great dane at home now which feels like two dogs in one. Then my parents have one at home.” Eliza just smiled at the thought of their pet back home. But moved her attention to the cat that she thought she saw Verona looking at. “If that is the case that may be perfect. I mean either they will get into trouble together or will amuse each others.” She chuckled softly, “I am sure it’ll work out though. I’ve always seen and heard cute stories about two cats together. It always tugs at my heart strings.
“Hey, it’s amazing to see you too,” he spoke with a massive smile on his face as he held some of the toys that he had gotten Winnie at the carnival as Winnie carried a massive unicorn. “Your amazing daughter got both her mom’s some toys. She won them all by herself,” he spoke with proudness in his voice as Winnie lifted the unicorn towards Eliza for her to take and grab.
Seeing that smile on his face and Winnie’s was very contagious. A surprised and excited look washing over her face. “Thank you so so much, darling. It is so beautiful!” She said and signed to Winnie, kneeling own to take the unicorn and give her a hug. “Did you guys have so much fun?” She asked, “You’ll have to show me how to win games.” Eliza teased before glancing up at Jamie, “Do you want anything? Some water? Food?”
“ i’ll be okay. “ Serena spoke in a softened voice. Sure she would love a nap, but her family came first. Any moments with them, were more important than her taking a nap. She could sleep later that night. Her daughter wrapping her arms and legs tightly wrapped around her body made her feel at ease. Her head tucked into her neck again as they spoke to her. Normally, Serena would both speak and sign to Winnie, but she was making it hard. “ I know you love Flounder, huh? “ The brunette repeated knowing upstairs there was at least one stuffed animal in her mountain of stuffed animals.
“ Is lunch ready my love? “ Serena’s attention went from their daughter who stayed snuggled up in her arms to her. She had a very light mean earlier in the day, but not much since. Mostly, she had been living off coffee as she did almost every day. She leaned in placing another kiss on her lips softly as she looked to the plates she had been getting ready before she interrupted her for their moment alone. “ Are you hungry little bug? Mama made your favorite. “ She said trying to pry the little girl from her arms to sit in at the table but was failing.
It warmed her heart when even in moments when they were tired from work or travels that they still wanted to enjoy as much time as they could together. She never thought years ago that she would be at this point in her life. It always made her heart melt. Just as much as it made her melt to watch Serena and their daughter. She took the moment to finish up their dishes, hoping that the faster they can eat the quicker they can relax. Smiling against her lips as they got to steal another kiss. “Yes, it is finally done. It all depends on where we want to go since little miss doesn’t want to let you go.” She took a plate though and tried to hold it up for Winnie to see. Her open hand moving one of her hands to her shoulder. “Someone really missed you.” She said softly to Serena with a smile.

Verona carried her portfolio in her hands as she stared outside the cat café. She had just finished a meeting for her artwork and it had gone incredibly well. So much so that the more positive and optimistic part of her that had been in hiding due to stress had come springing forward. She was honestly in an amazing mood and when she was happy, she had a habit of being impulsive. “ I shouldn’t get another cat should I?” Verona replied to the person next to her. “ But this little guy is so cute and maybe Vincent wants to be a big brother. I haven’t asked him, but he might have fun with a friend other than me and my paintbrushes”
After long days at work, once that left her drained or emotional sometimes she liked to find ways to wind down and center herself. One of her favorite things to do was to either walk by or got to the cat cafe. She was looking inside and smiling softly, already feeling a little better. She glanced over at Verona and chuckled softly, “I may not be the best to ask I have a few pets myself. Its hard to turn them down when they are so cute.” She glanced over at the cat that she was talking about. “You know that isn’t a bad idea though, give him some company whenever you’re busy. I heard it can be hard to introduce pets to each other but I’m sure the hard work is worth it.”
“I should not have a caffeine high I become a problem.” Breanne admitted. “Imagine a sugared out toddler and you have me on a caffeine high.” Speaking of sugar, it would definitely clash with the caffeine. She was going to be a hyperactive mess by the end of this adventure. “If you need an adventure buddy I’ll adventure with you. I’ll have way more time to adventure once summer hits though.” She was glad that her idea of an underground baked goods business sounded interesting to someone else. Even if it was only good in theory. “Maybe we could pitch it to food network? Think they need another series under their belt?"
Eliza shook her head and laughed, “I do know that all too well. But I mean it is always so amusing to watch. The come down though? Not very much.” The doctor and protective side of her coming out. “Just make sure you’re eating a lot of other healthy food and drinking a lot of water too.” Eliza knew she needed to get out more, to spend time with more people. She was working really hard to improve her work life balance. “I don’t think I could say no to that. I have quite a busy schedule with work and my family but I’m trying to get better at fitting in more free time into it.” Her smile grew at her suggestion, “I feel like it’d be a breath of fresh air for them. From what I see that channel has some crazy stuff now.”
The rustling from the living room was the last thing on her mind in that moment. The fact that they had quiet second together was much more important. Knowing the moment they sat down to watch the moment there would be a wedge between them. That Winnie would wiggle her little body into their bed that night stating her bed was ‘too cold’ and she needed to be with them. Her attention was on her wife in that moment. “ Good call. That should keep her busy a solid five minutes at least. “ Serena melted at her touch, he kisses. She wanted nothing more than for her wife to be home more but she loved her job. Serena knew this and would never ask her to but her needs before her job. That was just not how she was.
She let out a silent yawn herself protesting the fact she also needed a nap to spend time with her wife and their daughter. She placed soft kisses on Eliza’s neck until she heard the little pitter patter of feet heading back their direction. Before she could pull herself away from her wifes embrace Winnie was at her side. This time hugging onto her leg refusing to let go in quiet protest until she picked her up again. “ Did you get everything ready my love? “ Serena spoke and signed to Winnie before bending down to give into what her daughter wanted. She also placed kissed all over her tiny sweet face until she bursted into giggles that made her heart explode. “ We still need a movie. Did you pick one? I know your daddy said you really love The Little Mermaid lately. Do you want to watch that?”
It was so easy to get lost in her touch, it was one of her many weaknesses for Serena. Even if there were many things on her mind that was one thing that could bring her back to reality. It had been that way since they met, she had a way of making the world quiet. “We can do quite a lot of catching up in five minutes can’t we?” Her voice was soft, her smile turning at the corner of her lips. But even if the world would disappear around her their daughter and her emotions were always something she tried to stay attuned to. So when she heard her yawn she went into protective mode.
“You’re tired, darling...” Elizabeth said softly, her eyes still fluttering closed when she continued to press kisses to her neck. “Are you sure you don’t want to rest instead of watching a movie.” Her fingers till traveled along her arms. She chuckled softly when she heard the feet moving back into the kitchen. Turning around from her spot to smile at the sight of her wife and daughter. Chuckling softly at the sight of them, it always warmed her heart. So glad to see her daughter happy, you could tell she was so content now that they were back together. “Little Mermaid is a great one.” She said and signed, an excited smile on her face. “You love flounder don’t you?” Loving to hear each and every one of her daughters interests.
Serena was happy to be home with her family. They meant everything to her and being away from them even for a couple days left a void in her that could only be filled in moments like this. Their daughter tightly wrapped around her and beautiful wife at her side. Winnie’s breathing softly against her next she could tell she was indeed in need of a nap. It wasn’t a daily thing they did anymore but she did enjoy the extra cuddles if she did decided on one. She wouldn’t make it to lunch snuggled up on her so Serena loosened her tight hug around her to place her feet back on the floor. This leaving their daughters dangling softly like a rag doll. “ Why don’t you go with Mama for lunch while I take my bag upstairs. Okay? “ Her words were soft as she knelt to Winnie’s level carefully prying her to be eye to eye with her before standing back up so she wasn’t hanging to her like a spider monkey.
“ I promise I will be right back. “ She spoke softly to the little girl who’s arms were now crossed and eyes welled with tears. Serena leaned in giving Eliza one last kiss before dragging her bag up the stairs to the laundry room for now. She could wash it all at a later date. Right now her family was to come first. Scooby their great dane was on her tail the whole time she was away from her wife and kids. ‘ I missed you too bud. ‘ Serena said giving the big goof giving him the attention he was seeking before heading back down to the kitchen. It felt so good to be home again. It wasn’t always that the three of them had a day where they could spend time as a family. Their work schedules seemed to always be opposite. “ Did you guys decide on a movie? “ Serena spoke as she slipped into the kitchen and behind her wife wrapping her arms tightly around her. Not able to see where there daughter had gone. “Where did she go? “ She spoke softly placing soft kisses on her wifes neck while they had a moment alone.
“It’ll all be okay, sweetheart.” She assured, but she couldn’t blame her when she really missed Serena herself. Eliza couldn’t help but smile against Serena’s lips when they got one more kiss. It always made her heart hurt to see the little girl sad, but she also knew the need of a nap was contributing to that pout too. She knelt down, brushing her fingers through the girls hair before kissing her forehead. “Hey you...want to do me a big favor?” She asked hoping the task was exciting enough to distract her, “Can you help me set up some blankets for the movie? Then we can decide on a movie.” She knew how important that choice was and wanted to leave it up to her too. If she needs to help her narrow down later she would.
While Winne ran off she started to plate their meal. Trying to keep it as organized as she could until she felt arms wrap around her. Eliza easily melted into her wife’s arms, humming contently, her head even tilting to the side. “She’s debating which blankets we need based on the movie she chooses...” She explained, her voice soft as her eyes just closed for a moment Taking in the moment as much as she could, she missed their family being together but she also missed the moments like these. “I missed you so much.” She mumbled softly one of her hands moving over Serena’s, her finger brushing over her arms. Eliza could hear Winnie rustling around in the living room so she hoped they’d have a few more moments alone.
“A shady donut business under the streets of Seattle. Sign me up immediately. I’ve only been here for three so everything outside of campus, my neighborhood, and my job feels new to me.” While an exaggeration there was some truth to it. Every so often something new popped up that sounded exciting. “I’ve made a short mental list of places I want to go. The donut tour has been on that list for a while. Speaking of which, the maple bar shaped donuts are my favorite thing and I’m glad they exist. I might need someone to tell me to not try all the coffee offered in this adventure I don’t think I can handle more than three cups."
“You know normally I’m not one for shady business, but I feel like when it comes to baked goods? I may take a chance on it.” Eliza nodded though, she understood completely. “It makes sense, when you mainly doing things in one place. That is like me with my job, if I didn’t have my wife and daughter I would probably only go there and home.” Even if she didn’t do much outside of her comfort zone it was always different when encouraging others. “That is a great start, seeing those goals on paper should make a difference.” She never even noticed when this side came out, “Sometimes you just have to take the time you could to enjoy those little things. Of course all things are good in moderation but we should all have little days to do whatever we want.”
Eliza loved the days when she had the afternoon off, they didn’t happen often but she loved those days or even a few hours where she wouldn’t even be on call. She was trying to get as much done as she could at the house, but she was feeling a little impatient. She couldn’t wait to get to see Winnie again, but also to have a moment to catch up with Jamie. But the couple hours flew by and before she knew it she heard a knock. “Coming!” She called out before quickly making her way to the door. Her smile quickly growing when she opened the door, “Oh hello you too, how lovely to see the both of you.”
Their daughters daughter seemed to just melt into her as watched her wife appear from around the corner. Winnie was getting to a age where she was hard to get to take naps. Some days, it was much easier than other. This, this was not tired. This was her daughters way of showing them how much she missed them. Hugging onto them tightly not willing to let go at any cost. Not even the fact that Eliza was making her favorite meal. “ Oh really. You got Momma to make you your favorite lunch again? “ She joked softly as she tickled the little girl who refused to let her go.
“ I missed you too. “ Serena said softly as her eye fell on Eliza. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was when it came to her life. How lucky she was to have her, to have their life and daughter. Serena smiled softly leaning in giving Eliza a soft kiss even to Winnie’s dismay of not wanting to share her at the moment. Maybe she was wrong, maybe Winnie like herself could use a nap after all. That ways something to maybe consider after they ate lunch and spent some time together as a family. “ What if we ate lunch in the living room and watched a movie? “ Serena suggested knowing it was a rare thing they let her do because she tended to make messes.
She couldn’t help but chuckle, “Well it isn’t like it is hard for her to get what she wants.” Eliza teased, “One of those cute looks of hers and I am just putty in her hands.” Especially when Serena was gone she wanted to do all that she could to make Winnie happy. It was always quite easy for her to gave when it came to hers and Serena’s happiness. That was something that was always the most important thing to her.
Eliza couldn’t help but smile into the kiss, lingering on for a few more moments. “Thank you for sparing Mommy for just a moment.” She teased softly, pressing a quick kiss to their daughters head. Even if Serena was away for a few days, any moment away from her was too long. It made her miss each and every little thing about her, even just how nice it felt to be close to her and to feel her touch. It soothed her in ways she could never put into words. “Now I think that is a wonderful idea, all cuddled up with a movie on. I don’t think she’ll want you out of her sight for awhile.” It always warmed her heart to see their bond. “If you want to pick one out, the lunch should be ready in just a moment.”
Breanne had been counting down the days. A month had turned to weeks, which finally turned to days. And now Breanne was another year older. Celebrating once more in Seattle. The past few years she’d stayed home and her housemates had thrown together a party with their scraps of funds. This year she splurged and booked the Underground Donut tour. Which wasn’t exactly ‘underground’ but set in Pike Place. It seemed they were hitting at least four places. Breanne was interested in their overly powdered lemon donuts for starters. There was a caramel bar calling her name as well. The coffee offered was pretty tasty too. The group was sat at a table while their guide gave fun facts about the current establishment. “I gotta say, I really thought there were underground donut establishments that Seattle was offering on exclusive tour based appointments only. I’m not disappointed though. This is still absolutely cool."

Eliza was always a sucker for some baked goods, in a way they were a treat for her and her family. After a long day of work or just a long week she’d love to bring something home to have after dinner. Plus she was a sucker for a cappuccino when she could find them. The though part though was deciding what to get. She always had a tough time deciding between trying something new or getting things that she knew for sure everyone would love. After making so many decisions at work all day for some reason this was the toughest one. friendly smile grew on her face when she heard a familiar voice. “That really would be interesting wouldn’t it? But we do have a lot of hidden gems here though. Six years here and I still feel like I keep finding new places.” It is part of what she loved so much about it. “Have you tried any favorite yet?”
As Serena pulled into garage she let a sigh of relief. She was relieved to be home safe after a very long day of travel. Though she was only gone the two days, she hated being apart for them. Both she and Eliza had crazy busy lives. Between work, and caring for Winnie, the married couple found it hard to spend time alone. Serena turned off here car now as the door closed behind her, going to pull out the small suitcase she had taken with her. The fact that she had been up since three am dissipated at the thought that she was finally home.
Serena opened the doors throwing her keys into the bowl as she always had when they got home. She left the suitcase at the door so she could take it back upstairs later. “ I’m home. “ Serena announced surprised she was not already greeted by their one hundred and sixty pound great dane. It was quiet, which was odd within itself. Not a moment she heard the small pitter patter coming from upstairs to greet her. It was only within seconds a petite little girl was leaping into her arms. ‘ Mommy! ‘ Winnie exclaimed happily wrapping her arms around her neck giving her the tightest squeeze. “ Hey baby. I missed you soooo much. “ Taking in the moment to hug her daughter tightly. She had missed them both so much.“ Where’s mama? “ Serena both asked and signed to her daughter out of habit. “ Is she in the kitchen? “ Serena signed as she held Winnie in her arms still. Winnie’s head rested into her neck.
Eliza always missed Serena terribly when she’d go just as much as she missed her and Winnie whenever she’d have late nights at work or conferences. Just a few hours was too long in her opinion. But Eliza was over the moon to get more time with Winnie, which was even easier when she got a few days off of work. She enjoyed every moment of it that she could considering days off could be hard to come by. Elizabeth filled the days with excitement, they’d go to the park, to the zoo and made her favorite food.
Although her heart filled with excitement when she heard Serena come through the door. She was in the kitchen cooking lunch for them and Winnie was upstairs playing. Although she knew how excited Winnie was to be the first to welcome Serena home, plus Eliza wanted to make sure this lunch was perfect. When she heard Serena as for her though her smile grew, “I certainly am! Winne convinced me to make her favorite for lunch, again.” She teased the last part with a smile. “Welcome home, darling. I’ve missed you so much.” Elizabeth said softly, finally parting from the stove for a moment after turning down the food. Heading to the two people who fill her heart with so much love.

Since Elizabeth was young she always kept to herself, she always felt more comfortable with her own company. You could almost always see her with her nose in a book. She loved to take the time to learn and understand as much of the world as she could. If there was a chance to step out of her shell or step back and observe she’d always chose that latter. It was the perfect fit for her family who was just her and two parents who were very busy surgeons. She didn’t cause them any trouble or even kick up a fuss when she had to stay with family or have baby sitters some late nights or early mornings. This could cause most kids to resent their parents but if anything she always looked up to her parents. They were saving lives everyday, to say she admired it would be an understatement.
It wasn’t until she got to middle school that she really tried to step out of her shell and find herself. She wanted to be more than just the wallflower. With some hard work and encouragement from her parents she not only opened herself up to make more friends but she also found things she was passionate about. Eliza found that she always loved helping others. Taking any chance she could to step up for someone, be in their corner when others wouldn’t. Even if she still didn’t have much confidence in herself, she gave all of that to others. Just from middle school to high school she became a completely different person. At least from people who knew her when she was younger.
It may not have been a surprise from others considering her parents but it was a big moment for her to finally realize she wanted to be a surgeon too. It was the perfect way to use her knowledge and love for helping others. She wanted to leave the mark that her parents did on the world. Of course her parents were as supportive as they could be, filling her in on all the pros and cons of the career. But nothing seemed to scare her away, once Eliza was set on something she wouldn’t give up on it. She put all her time and energy in high school into doing the best she could with her education and taking any volunteering opportunity at the hospital. Elizabeth wanted to make a name for herself, she didn’t want to be known just for her parents accomplishments.
It finally felt like she made it when she got accepted into Stanford for her bachelors degree. It felt like all of her dreams were coming true, if things continued to go well she would get accepted into their medical program too. Although in the midst of all of this excitement she realized she wasn’t giving herself the chance to experience life outside of work and school. So she tried her hand at dating and going out although it never worked out in her favor. No matter what things would always end quickly because Eliza’s priorities was always in her career. So after a few tries she put it on the backburner.
Although that all changed when feelings sparked for her best friend Serena. It was a lot of moments of doubt, worrying that things could never happen. One day during her senior year of medical school that all changed. They started dating and things kept up going up from there. For once Eliza felt like heard, loved and appreciated in a way she never knew was possible. In about a years time they were married and filled with hope for the future. For once it felt like Eliza could have love, family and her career. She had someone there for her for graduation and where she’d be matched for her residency for general surgery.
Not long after they found out she was placed in Seattle Washington at Seattle Grace, a hospital she’s had her eye on for awhile. The couple moved there shortly after they got the news. They were thriving off of the excitement of this news and knew they were ready to start a new chapter of their life. After they got adjusted and found a home they started to discuss having a family. Eliza couldn’t help but be worried that she could end up like her parents, far to busy with work to be around. But like always Serena knew how to comfort her fears. Not long after they welcomed Winnie into the world and it has been wonderful since.
Now six years later things continue to get better, things were falling together. Elizabeth finally completed her residency about a year ago, feeling more motivated than ever. It felt crazy for her to believe she came from a kid who only found comfort in stories could be saving lives everyday while happily married with a family. Everyday she finds herself waking up every morning wanting to pinch herself to believe its all real. She can’t wait to see what else in store.

When in middle school she started going by Eliza, it was a way of becoming a different person. But she still doesn’t mind going by Elizabeth.
Loves to read with any free time she has. She loves any kind of book, romance, history, mysteries just whatever she can get her hands on.
Family is still the most important thing to her, she loves to spend any time she has in the day with her family. She is even still close with her parents who visit on holidays.
