                 PAUL KEPT HIS ARM AROUND HER AS THEY WALKED towards his grandfather’s house and he shook his head as she apologized for her state. a victim who somehow felt this was her fault perhaps? like this was inconveniencing him. he was just gonna go home and order a pizza and watch a movie or two. if she wanted to be his company for that to lift her spirits then hey, he didn’t have to do alone? “ don’t apologize to me… “ he stated as they neared his grandfather’s house. he let her go slowly to unlock the door and opened it before moving to help her inside. “ i’ve uh…. well people have found me in similar or worse ways so. trust me don’t gotta apologize. “  he lead her inside shutting the door behind them before he licked his lips. “ not much really i mean. traditional old folk house. decorating can be tough on the eyes… .lot of brown….” he laughed trying to keep the mood light. “ do you wanna uh… shower? or can i get you a drink or …. what do you need and if i can make it happen i will. “ he offered to her gently. 

that makes her curious . he’s been through something similar maybe ? if people were finding him in the same sort of state that paul had found her in . she might even ask about that later . for now , she could only focus on getting inside , and being relieved that they had made it . the bus stop feels miles away now , and so does malcolm ( though the fear that he was lurking right behind her was still very apparent ) . tears well up in her eyes ( shocker ! ) , and he tries to hold them back as firm as possible . alice can handle this .

‘ i think it’s great , ’ she says of the home , but with the words come a cough . part of her is having trouble breathing - both from the bruised ribs and the anxiety - and she bends over to catch her breath before straightening again . ‘ i’d... like t’clean up , if you don’t mind , ’ the mirror seemed like an enemy , right now ; she didn’t even want to know what sort of mess she looked like . ‘ and after that , honestly , i just... wanna sleep , ’ or rest . she wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight .

‘ wouldn’t that just be tragic ? ’ he’s funny . alice liked funny . she’s fairly lighthearted , herself , and a lot of the adults around hollow rock were stiff . this was a welcomed surprise . she nods to her left . ‘ he’s down the hall and around the corner . need a guide , or do you think you can handle it ? ’
