Freya was lay with her airpods in on top of her blanket sheโd lay out neatly on the grass. lale was born in istanbul, turkey.ย ย โย ย she only lived there until she was three years old, however, so she doesnโt remember her childhood in turkey at all. both she and her twin brother grew up in foster care until they were adopted by a couple from london. johnathan allen, one of her fathers, is originally from boston. yusuf mardin, her other father, was similarly born in turkey and later relocated to the uk. neither of her dads ever required any of their five adopted children to call them dad, so growing up, lale eventually came to call them john and joe respectively.
the first rule of the allen mardin household is that no one is discouraged from doing what they want to do with their lives. so when lale wanted to become an actress when she was just five years old... thatโs what she got to do.
very mary kate and ashley olsen esque, she got a role in a popular sitcom. the show ran for ten seasons in the early 90s. she could probably retire on the money that she gets from the syndication of those rerun episodes alone, but lale went on to have a relatively impressive acting career. she stuck to television until she was in her 20s. she moved out to hollywood when she was 22 and began getting roles in films โ action and horror movies, most often. in movies, she quickly gained a reputation as a scream queen, final girl type.
she met her husband while auditioning for the cult classic the cove. it was a slasher film, centered around a group of young twenty-somethings vacationing in a cabin on a lake. the plot was rather simple: one by one, the characters die in gory and memorable ways. the last character standing was kate. the final girl. attractive, brunette, a cheerleader for the college football team. lale landed the role. two weeks into filming, she started having an affair with the director. six months later, they were married.
she was 26 at the time, and hindsight is 20/20. they werenโt a couple that was meant to last, although they tried to make it work. at the age of 29, lale retired from acting altogether and began screenwriting instead. at 30, she grew more and more distant from her husband, spending more time in london with her family than she did in los angeles with him. it didnโt come as much of a shock when she found out that he was cheating on her. didnโt come as much of a shock to her, anyway. the media had a field day with it, like they always do.
lale filed for divorce a year go. the whole thing was public, portrayed as far more nasty in the press than it truly was behind the scenes, and exited the news cycle about six months ago now.
afterward, lale investedย ยฃ6 million on a home in hampstead village and turned all of her attention to writing her next script.ย
