What is this Poetic Magic of which you speak? It sounds very interesting.
In very, very simplistic terms, the Irish believed that words had power. I mean, there’s a lot more (like way more) to it than that, but that’s the basic, incredibly overly simplistic gist of it. Anyways, that was frequently, at least in regards to literature and mythology, used as its own sort of Magic at times.
We see a lot of examples in regards to this especially where it concerns Satire- one of the most popular examples of which I can think of is the Satire of Cairbre composed against Bres the inhospitable; House Barra (SCA affiliated) has a bit of an interesting page on Satire specifically, with two sources listed. I haven’t verified it myself, however, since I haven’t delved too deep into Satire as a specific form of Rhetoric. So bear that in mind.
We see this sort of magic in other places, too, though; magical rhetoric was very much a thing in many forms, and I have a post around here somewhere with a list of the resources I currently have, that I put together for @therainshallmakeadoor... The interesting form to me, though, are Poetic forms of Magical Rhetoric, where rhyming was an intentional part of its composition, and key component of the working. So you can kind of get the basic gist of what I mean when I say “Poetic Magic” from that alone.
The problem there, however, is that Irish language works very differently than the English language. Specifically, the Irish language has a very specific way of speaking about things in many regards; to borrow from a tumblr post I can’t find now, but hope I’m remembering correctly: You can’t say something like “you’re drunk”, you have to say something like “the alcohol is on you”... Which ultimately means the Irish language’s specific brand of poeticism can’t be translated 1:1.
I mean, honestly that’s going to be an issue with any translations in general; 1:1 is never going to be possible regardless.... But it’s particularly difficult to replicate in English-Irish with regards to Magical Rhetoric (poetic or not), IMO. Especially in a way that not only retains the inherent poeticism- but also does so without losing a lot of the unique Irish rhetoric itself that actually makes it work correctly in the first place.
Which is clearly a problem for someone whose first language isn’t Irish, and who isn’t any good at the very little Irish she does know so far. But i think I may have finally potentially found an English language friendly work around using poetic quotations- which is different than outright Poetry.

How to Close a Reading, as My Grandma Taught Me
“Interpreting the last card does not mean you are done. You have ten more things to do before the reading is through.”
1. Count the major arcana.
The more there are, the stronger the reading’s predictions will impact the querent’s life. If there are none or just one, almost none of it will matter in the long run.
2. Note the sequence of the major arcana.
If the querent is asking about someone, and the major arcana are between 0 and 16, that person is not meant to stay in their life. If the question is about a dream or an opportunity, and the cards fall between 17 and 21, it will manifest completely.
3. Count the cards from each suit.
The presence of all suits predicts a balanced outcome. More Wands means strong passion. More Swords means anxiety or manipulation. More Cups means the heart is running the show. More Pentacles means wealth is about to diminish or grow.
4. Mind the aces and the tens.
Two or more aces means the situation is only just beginning. Two or more tens means it is now coming to a good or bad ending.
5. Note the multiples between two and nine.
Twos mean clever thinking is of paramount importance. Threes speak of infidelity or the need for cooperation. Fours guarantee stability, just as sixes do harmony. Fives and sevens spell difficult challenges, but eights and nines promise that the labor is almost over.
6. Regard the ruling colors.
A dominant black predicts burdens and hindrances. Red and yellow combined ensure passion, clarity and manifestation. Blue and white together advise that the solution can be found through spirituality and intuition.
7. Count the court cards.
Nine times out of ten, court cards are people, not influences. They are doing the manipulation or they need to be manipulated.
8. Notice the suits of the courts.
Wands and Swords are friendly. So are Cups and Pentacles. Any other combination spells rivalry and obstacles.
9. Watch where the cards are facing.
“Is the woman in The World looking at The Tower? A tragedy has to occur before success can take over. Is the King of Cups facing away from his Queen? Their relationship is suffering. His love for her has begun fading.”
10. Look at the bottom of the deck.
If the outcome is good, embodying this energy will make it even better. If the outcome is bad, this is the hidden connection that needs to be severed.
Tarot Tricks
1 - Nervous about a situation? Shuffle and look for The Fool. The two cards on either side will advise you on how to approach it.
2 - Are you looking for a new romance? Shuffle and look for The Lovers and the Ace of Cups. The cards in between will help guide you to finding love.
3 - Looking for a new beginning? Are you ready to start a new venture? Shuffle and find The Magician. The cards on either side will guide you in the right direction.
4 - Doing some soul searching? Find The Hermit. The cards around him will shed some light on your introspection.
5 - Going through some major life changes? Shuffle and find The World. The cards around it will give you the advice you need for this new chapter.
6 - Had a confusing dream? Shuffle and look for The Moon. The cards on either side will help you interpret the meaning of it.

Wheel of the Year
Venus Retrograde Spread
Venus enters retrograde October 6th and will last till November 16. Starting in the romantic sign of Libra and ending with the intensity of Scorpio. When in a Venus retrograde we seem to be guided by our temptations. Good or bad, this is a time so reflect on what we want in relationships, in luxuries and in love. This spread helps us check in with ourselves, what we are challenged by in this cycles, why challenged us in the past, and what we are attracting from others.
You : this card represents yourself or the person being read. This is an ego card.
The Challenge : the difficulties that need to be focused on during this Venus Retrograde cycle.
Most recent relationship : the characteristic of your current or most recent relationship. What went wrong, what is going wrong, or when are the strengths here?
Your relationship with yourself : this I feel is the most important card in the spread. Self love and self harmony are incredibly important in all aspects of life. How is your relationship with yourself (or the person you are reading for) at this moment?
What are you attracting : this is how others are perceiving you during this cycle. This card and the relationship with yourself card tend to be very interconnected. Are you giving off the vibe you want? Are you attracting the type of people you want to be around?
Let me know if you would like a reading from me!

SELF-REFLECTION SPREAD
I mostly use tarot as a tool for personal introspection. Even people who don’t believe in divination of any kind can use tarot as an aid to explore different perspectives to a situation or even their own psyche. These are some things which I believe I need to confront about myself before achieving any real personal growth.
1. FIXATE
What are the parts of yourself or your life that you tend to get hung up about. Confronting yourself can be good, but overly obsessing on a particular problem or aspect of yourself can inhibit growth.
2. IGNORE
Conversely, what do you tend to push to the side. This can go both ways: some are unable to see the good things in themselves or their lives, while others gloss over their faults and avoid addressing their problems.
3. FALSE
What are the things we think to be true about ourselves, or our lives that are not. These are often negative qualities, a lot of people think they are less capable, less deserving or less worthy than they really are.
4. DECIPHER
What about ourselves have we yet to understand. Everyone has some things about themselves which they don’t yet fully grasp or cannot quite put to words.
5. WANT
What do we most want from ourselves and our lives. The things we wish were more true about ourselves or that we aspire to be. This is a long process to achieve, and part of that is learning that we can’t just skip to this step, we need to deal with the other parts of ourselves too, including the undesirable parts, before we can achieve true personal growth.
