Got Reshade working with this. Do we have to do that thing where we edit the global settings to make AO work? Or was that just a sims thing? š¤ @erasabledinosaur tagging you because I think I saw you playing around with the shaders.
The free plant is popular. š·
Slowly figuring things out while my para runs everywhere. :P
@anitmb Thank you for the repair mod. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3734922374
...boop!
Taking a teensy more than usual mini-hiatus break. I'm around but not at my desk. I'll be back more regular after the holidays.
Hey!šš¼ I saw your posts testing out Confusedsheriffās GraphicsRules edit and I wanted to ask you something more on the technical side, if you donāt mind!
I tried the file on my setup, but the game didnāt recognise my GPU at all! not the model, not the dedicated VRAM, so it defaulted to the RAM-based fallback. Iām trying to figure out whether thatās just my game/pc being stubborn, or if itās something others ran into too.
Since youāve been playing around with it a bit more Iām curious because your game seemed to run noticeably smoother with the edit, and Iām trying to work out why my setup is reacting differently. Any insight you feel like tossing my way would help a ton šš¼
Hiya! I tested the file with no changes and it did the same thing for me. It didn't recognize my gpu. I was pretty sure it (even with the new changes) that it wasn't going to work, but I wanted to see what would happen.
After that, I opened both my previous version and @confusedsheriff version as a text file with notepad, copied and pasted them in https://www.diffchecker.com/ I wanted to see all the changed made from my edited file to the CS's version.
I have a nvidia geforce gtx 1070 and copied my original nvidia card section and replaced CS's nvidia card section.
Changed nothing else, then tested again. It recognized my gpu after that.
After that in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Options.ini I edited all my settings and tested everything again. Note: I'm using DXVK and Reshade 6.1.1.1847
Tested it again and made one more change in GraphicRules.sgr to change the seti textureMemory to my previous settings. And maxed all my settings in game (my rig can handle that, so your settings may depend on your pc/laptop). And tested it again.
And that's all I've done so far. I did a long build session and had no issues with it so far. My ram usage never got above 2gb's except for when I saved. But that's all due to DXVK and some other changes I've made and tested back in October.
Going forward, because I'm using DXVK and Reshade, the other edit I'm probably going to make is the MemCacheBudgetValue line. And possibly the DrawDistance but that will be at a performance hit in game so be aware of that.
Going to post this public as it might be useful to others. Hope that's okay.

Changed the draw distance in options.ini and a few other settings from my old version. No edit pictures this time to show how the draw distance looks and shadows work with the graphics rules change.
still testing...

Testing out some new graphic rules settings @confusedsheriff to see how it performs. Need to put it through it's paces and tweak a few things but it does feel like the moving around and zooming in and out is a lot smoother. The draw distance is a lot shorter than my settings, so that's probably why it feels like zooming in and out and around is smoother, but if you pull back too far the objects sort of disappear. It's running with all the settings on max, Reshade and I still edit with PS (because I'm old and I like it. lol). Anyways, we'll see how it goes with a long session of building or playing.
