Two pairs of boots came today! I’m thrilled with them, the colors, everything , and I already know how comfy they are because I wear my blue pair daily. I will package these back up and send off to their new owners. I wish I could find a manufacturer who does a better job of packaging so they could go directly to the customer, but the companies good at packing and branding don’t have these delicious boots. I usually post a pic of my stack as soon as I get to Naples, and a friend pointed out a week ago that I hadn’t. Books are where I’ve always gone to take a break from reality. Since R was here, my reality was pretty darn good, so I didn’t read too much. R finally got back to Utqiagvik today where it’s -70F and the interior temp of her house was 0F when she got home bc the monitor heater that she left set at 62F couldn’t keep up. It was 81 here today, so she’s had a 151 degree drop. I told her I’d treat for a night in the hotel but she won’t do that. She will get her house warmed up using her oven. Wish she was here to enjoy this perfect sunset with me. No need for an oven or any kind of heat. Tonight’s sunset is Dad’s kind. I prefer more clouds for reflecting the light! Missing her lots. We are both missing R today. It’s been a wonderful 2-month visit (although she was in quarantine in a hotel for the first week of that), but it was not long enough! Tonight was our 2nd night playing the Italian opening, and I won, sort of, but only because R let me try three scenarios. My first two did not get the job done, but finally I figured it out. So it’s not a true win, and as far as I’m concerned, she’s still undefeated. She kept saying, “visualize it on the ceiling like in The Queen’s Gambit,” but I am not there yet. Also, I am not a genius, so there is that. In other news, we cracked into the Aberlour, a 10yr Speyside single malt, and sampled it with the Glen Garioch and the Drumshanbo, which isn’t a single malt after all. My bad. I thought all the ones I bought were, but this is a blend, and I thought it was a single malt bc it says “single pot still whiskey”‘right on the front, and silly me, I thought that was the same thing. But she doesn’t mind. They all taste good to me with ice cubes, but I can’t tell the 10 and 12 yrs apart without ice. Ice cubes in whisky is like training wheels for the palate. R likes the Aberlour, but the Glen Garioch, which is a 12 year from the highlands, is her fave of this grouping. I am thoroughly enjoying losing chess games and sipping and learning about whiskey.
