L. V., excerpts from the afterword
My heart bleeds for you
I have placed my life in your hands
My one true love
Committed to permanent matrimony
Sanctified in our holy sanctuary
Losing my worries as lust is replaced by love
And I am granted what always was
salvation
Someday
Someday, I’ll want to be alive.
Today is not that day.
A time will come; I know it will,
but how am I to wait,
and how can I survive today
when everything is dead?
And how am I to carry all
these thoughts inside my head?
It hurts so bad
Whispers Beneath Snow (A Hunger Games Poem)
Stand at attention, don’t make a sound,
Snow lands on top as it covers the ground.
Respect what they’ve done, don’t step out of line,
You’ll lose what you have, every dream, every dime.
Respect the past, don’t step out of line,
Hide your thoughts, pretend you're fine.
Stand up straight as they strip you of choice,
Swallow your pain, silence your voice.
Don’t speak your mind, don’t let it be known,
They own your body, your thoughts, your bones.
Listen but never let thinking begin,
Silence is safety; rebellion’s a sin.
I’ll praise my scars, they whisper of hope,
Proof that I lived, that I learned how to cope.
They’ll scream my name in whispers so soft,
As the Snow falls then melts, then is lost.
so soft it hurts
Sacred Sin
I fall to my knees like a penitent saint,
Whispering prayers in the hush of restraint.
Your breath is Scripture on my skin,
You speak in tongues, and I let you in.
You speak in tongues, no holy decree,
But the language of lust that sets sinners free.
You bite the fruit the garden bore,
And beg for grace, then ask for more.
You are the host, the sacred meal,
And I, devout, must taste and kneel.
Now I sip with reverent sin,
And feel salvation flood within.
the unbearable boredom of being
These days I know I need to drown To let the sea just suck me down Sinking in this stolid air I crave an end to this despair
My back is flayed, my smile is worn Life's a burden barely borne I'm tissue paper tearing thin A million bruises bleed within
The silvered water, fading shore A sense of peace felt to my core Glittered glow, salty waves A profound peace my spirit craves
Take me to a weightless place Where moonbeams glow and kiss my face This gravity's too much for me Let me sink, just set me free

i think ultimately you do really have to kill that part of your brain that vividly imagines how you would redo parts of your life.
Lords and Ladies - Terry Pratchett
The Poems of Emily Dickinson, originally published: 1930
You Weren't the Only Thing I Lost, You Know
It wasn't just you I lost on that sunny March day It was every person I met through you every song you sang along to every street that I walked on every movie we watched together My city of fortune had become my city of lies I even lost the best friend I've ever had
How could I even look at him? The man who introduced us and put me on the path to my self-annihilation The man who told me to go for it and was mad at me for not getting your number that first night He said you were perfect for me and he knew me well. Better than I even knew myself sometimes.
It's not his fault, and it's not your fault and maybe, although doubtful, it's not my fault Maybe sometimes things like this happen Lives are uprooted and flipped all the time I guess I just wasn't ready to give up the before time Before I met you, before I fell in love That person is nothing more than nostalgia A dead memory that no one thinks about
Little by little, I lost everything and at the same time I gained addiction The drink wasn't for fun anymore It was for sleep And I never thought I'd end up as a needle point cross stitches to cover up self-inflicted wounds
the only good thing that comes from losing it all is you don't have to worry about that anymore

whim
There’s milk and honey in my mug.
I’ve filled it to the brim.
Inside, there hides a metal heart,
Pocketed on a whim.
I brewed up an honest cuppa
With highest hopes to heal my heart,
But every time I stand at my kitchen bench,
My mind tears me apart.
I end up on the floor in tears
Instead of in the bath.
I end up frozen in speechless fear
Instead of doing my maths.
This land of milk and honey
Turns everything sour inside of me.
I woke up years on down the line.
Wishing I’d only known faster.
I end up the butt of the joke every time.
What else won’t I master?
