My point about how you talk about Husk in terms of him and Angel relationship is that you make assumptions about how Husk feels about the relationship and ignore his actual actions. In the art I see of Husk reacting to Angel he most often seems more surprised or just thinking Angel is weird, which makes sense how how different their personalities are. You assume that Husk is a poor defenseless victim from big bad Angel when in reality Husk
A character starting out as a not so great person learning from their fuck ups and looking to improve is not the same as “character gets away with everything because they have a tragic back story.” Angel HAS had repercussions to his actions, Vaggie chewed him out for making them look like a fool on the news, and Husk ignored him during the drink situations. The getting chewed out had less actual repercussions however you do see his guilt displayed when he sees how it affected Charlie. Similarly when Husk ignores him he owns up to his fuck up by paying him back. You say Viv is going to give him anything he wants because of his tragic back story when it’s clear as day right in front of your face that he is growing a conscious and owning up to his mistakes.
Also you talk about things being biased or not official you have used years old FAN REQUESTED doodles that aren’t even canon to support your arguments about AngelHusk being toxic before. Viv follows these accounts ands likes a majority of the posts, and it’s common knowledge that the ones still up are run by people on the team. You can’t just pick and choose which things you want to think are canon and then when you see something you don’t like it’s “biased and not official” as far as Viv is concerned, these posts are the the very least semi canon, and she agrees with the way the characters are being portrayed. If she didn’t, they’d be taken down too.
I find it funny how you talk about the biases of people… working on the show? Like, yeah. They work on/develop the show, of course they’re gonna pull the show in the direction they think would suit it best. Viv is the only person who can say that what the crew is doing with the story is illegitimate, not you, not me, if Viv signs off on this, then that’s it. You judge based on what you would like to see, which is something you are allowed to do, but counting something as a flaw under the basis of “This isn’t what I want to see.” Is a flimsy argument. Also I’m judging the show based on the actual content and context of what’s being presented, and really don’t see a need to bring the people behind the scenes into it. Like, yeah, if the person who did that scene does fetishize non con then that’s gross, but the actual scene was not meant to fetishize it. The actual scene was meant to show how Val’s abuse affects Angel, how it’s something that haunts him in his daily life and how it’s one of the reasons he at the hotel and wants to be better.
Also I’ll ask you not to put words in my mouth. You make the assumption that I think Husk should just accept a date to make the comments stop, when I said nothing like that in my post. I know their are fans like that, and I don’t like that mindset either and tbh I only really see it from younger fans, but for you to just assume that I feel that way as well just turns it into a straw man argument. My actual point is that, if Husk still wants to be around Angel even with the comments present, and he’s shown that he is capable of handling Angel on his own and distancing himself from him when he’s had enough, then why are you painting it as Husk trying desperately to escape Angel? Yeah, Husk tells Angel to fuck of, he’s written as a grumpy character who tells anyone even slightly annoying to him to fuck off. His reactions to Angel seem no more different than his reactions to both Alastor and Charlie in the pilot. He’s implied to be a very anti social person, so yeah, when greeted with an extrovert, he’s gonna look like he’s out of his comfort zone.
The picture in Angels room was a gag, that’s it. It’s not meant to be taken seriously. It also wasn’t some creepy shrine dedicated to Husk, even if it was non consensual, it was set up next to pictures of Cherri and Fat Nuggets, people he cares about.
Yeah, in real life, it’s probs be a little creepy to have a picture you took of someone without them knowing and hung it on your wall. But yeah, this is hell, and Angel is a demon in Hell where the way people interact is very different. And AGAIN, the entire point of the show is to move AWAY from the kind of behavior and become better. You say that no relationship should start of toxic like this, but tell me, how did you expect a new relationship in hell between demons to start? Vaggie and Charlie seems to be very healthy but it’s clear they are the exception and not the rule. There’s no way a relationship in Hell can avoid being at least somewhat toxic, and Viv seems to be very aware of this. The argument “fiction is fiction” is thrown around a lot, but if only works when there is a level of self awareness.
Saying “Well in real life things are this way so it’s okay” is a far different statement from “In the context of the story and setting, this make sense so it’s okay” A lot of AngelHusk fans including myself are not pretending that Angelhusk is a pure and perfect ship. We admit that it has flaws, but we also admit that in the context of the show and the rules of Hell that it makes sense for the characters to act like this. We also acknowledge that, as I said in my previous post, the end goal is for them to be on the same page about the relationship and come to a better understanding of each other, and that is the real appeal of the ship, even with the tesundere jokes.
We also acknowledge that expecting them to be perfect to each other and to be completely moral in their relationship is down right unrealistic for Hell, and we embrace while still holding the knowledge that real life is far different and we have different expectations for it.
As for the biases, you’re right, I’m willing to admit I have a bias. I love the ship. However, when I saw your original arguments I did step back to examine the ship, as there are Hazbin ships I cannot support for certain reasons and I didn’t want to be hypocritical. And it was only because of your original arguments forcing me to take a step back that I came to these conclusions and made me strongly disagree with you. Your arguments carry the energy of you went into this bias against the ship, and built your arguments to fit your bias. If that’s not the case then that is not how you represented it.
And you know what? You’re allowed to not like a ship for whatever reason. Like I said, I have ships I cannot support for many reasons. But your reasons seem very verrrry bias and like you’re reaching for things to complain about. If you don’t like a ship, say you don’t like a ship. You can give reasons, sure, but you’re taking it the such an extreme that honestly is unnecessary. I hate to bring up RadioDust as I do somewhat ship it, but you cannot pretend it would be any less toxic than AngelHusk supposedly is.
Angel backing off after one sexual remark is not proof of Angel “respecting Alastor’s boundaries.” And honestly I can very easily see Angel making more of these comments to Alastor when the show actually airs, as flirting and sex jokes are part of his character. He made jokes and sexual remarks to Sir pentious as well, so it’s clear that flirting and sexual remarks aren’t going to be exclusive to Husk. And even then, Alastor is always invading people’s space and, shock of all shocks, not respecting people’s boundaries, and he continued when Husk physically shoved him away. He smacked Vaggie’s ass without consent, and she was upset, asexual or not, that is sexual assault.
So by that logic, Alastor is as much of a creep as Angel even if he is asexual. Guess RadioDust is toxic too.
Or, you know, it’s a fictional ship not meant to be taken so seriously.
