          “ i see ... she’s probably going to get drunk again. ” a gust of wind arises the water’s surface beyond the docks, bringing with it the familiar scent of fine sake and grilling fish — a memory from a past visit to ritou’s taverns with the boisterous captain. his eyes raise to follow kazuha’s, resting upon the poetic skyline of inazuma’s islands. he knows already that painted words are flying through his mind faster than the leaves themselves. kanda nods, letting his steps fall in stride with kazuha’s, and he waits for those words to turn the silence into a canvas of poetry. “ alright ... i want to stop by the blacksmith’s. ”

          “ you don’t have to make such a big fuss about it ... ” with an unceremonious thud, both large bags slung over his shoulder are dropped to the ground, but his sword remains firmly in hand. the extravagant mondstadt welcomes are not unfamiliar to him, no matter how fiercely he wishes to avoid them. a breath is drawn deeply, and he notes the stiffness of his limbs from being crammed into a carriage for many long hours on the journey. “ if my previous room is occupied, i can find another one. and stop apologizing ... ” @dandilys​ .

          “ stop talking ... ” exasperation meant only to mask apprehension. the cool autumn air suddenly falls starkly chilled but life around them continues as usual. how strange it is, kanda notes, that such a change would ensnare his attention when nothing at all seems amiss. a hand instinctively curls around mugen’s hilt but he does not hasten his pace. “ che ... it’s just a busy city. nothing worth getting worked up about. ” @tomoge​ for allen !

          “ nothing has changed? no... it’s getting worse. guess i should have come back sooner. ” dismay simmers within the depths of sky-like eyes, for now they witness the evident decay of his homeland. though perhaps not noticeable to one who is not looking for it, kanda can feel the change in the air as he strolls along ritou’s docks. hostility clings the water, even the skies which once bore blue are now grey and gloomy. “ why are we stopping in ritou? ” @solaceforge​ .

genshin verse kanda is a hydro vision user from inazuma who ended up in liyue for... Reasons. his sword, mugen, is with him at all times and the bond he shares with it runs deep. he acts a bit like beidou and goes between liyue and inazuma to support the resistance, and fights on the front lines when he’s needed.

          “ so...  you’re the one. ” tone remains flat, surprised by little to nothing in a world full of the unexpected. icy eyes are just as cold as he’s willed himself to conduct this mission objectively. mugen is thus far unsheathed as the situation has thus far deemed it unnecessary. “ i don’t care what you think you are, but you can’t stay here if you claim to care about these people. let’s go. ” @saintspun​ .

why do you hurt?

this isn't enough for you

the words creep into your head in the dead of night one night and you cannot get rid of them. 'this isn't enough for me anymore'. you thought this was enough for you at some point, or maybe you hoped that it would be, but it isn't, and it hurts. you need to change something, or die trying. this - life like this - does not make life worth living. there is a lump in your throat that demands attention every waking moment of the day. there is pain in your body like a cavernous maw you cannot keep balance over. this is not what you wanted. you need to change. you can't stay here. it is not a character flaw you want more.
