Authorities have confirmed that a mummified body was found on a toilet inside a California home while they were looking for a missing woman this summer.

The officers were searching for a missing 95-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease when a family member asked them to check the home, CBS affiliate KPIX reported.

The woman was not inside the home, having moved to a senior home two years prior, per the reports. But police did find the mummified body of a man on the toilet.

Authorities described the body as “mummified” because it appeared to have dried up before they arrived, according to KRON.

“It’s really strangely common for us to find people in the restroom,” UCPD Sergeant Brandon Hayward said, per KRON.
