All things considered, the Agents were able to throw a relatively successful pool party – even in the wake of such a dire and cruel motive. However, it was only natural that not everyone was thrilled about festivities at such a crucial moment in the Killing Game. After all, they had a time limit.
It was around 11:50pm and most of the Agents were off doing their own thing, either returning to Area 1 or preparing for bed, after all, the party finished a few hours ago. However, throughout all this, the Metro Train docked at the light train station in the Recreation park, with Akira Satou and Suishou Murasaki stepping off and alighting onto the platform. It would normally be described as odd to see these two hanging together, however somehow, a friendship was forged in the party! It was good for something after all.
Akira and Suishou walk through the entrance and enter the changing room, with the intention of returning to the pool area to clean up – After all, Takao was god knows where and Motomu was probably still lounging about. So, the one half of the party planner crew prepared to enter the pool when they spotted something… odd.
This wasn’t right…
The Neuroscientist and the Crystal Gazer were staring straight at the door to the Cryotherapy Room. The small window that let you peer into the room was iced over.
The two cast each other a worried glance and Akira grabbed the door handle, pushing the door open. As they did they were surrounded by a freezing mist, only to discover that the worst had indeed happened…
Dossier: A Poorly Timed Pool Party | Chapter Two
A few hours after the horrific motive, agents around the facility were gathered by Takao and Akira to join everyone at the pool area for a super special activity, and were advised to change into swimwear. They, along with the other two members of their quad Suishou and Motomu, had decided to throw together an impromptu party in the pool area to raise the morale of their fellow agents. However, the clock in the back of everyone’s minds was certainly ticking… But just for a few hours, Hell Quad v2.0 sought to pretend their loved ones weren’t just hours away from death. With a pool party.
And an impromptu pool party it sure was.
Decorations were thrown about in a vaguely aesthetically pleasing way by yours truly, Takao Asamizu. A selection of food is laid out on the beach tables near the pool, along with a selection of non-alcoholic beverages for those who’d rather skip the bar, or rather should.
Momohime.
Suishou made sure that there were enough options for everyone, not wanting to disappoint. Sliced fruits, vegetables, bowls of chips, even bowls of froyo that she had taken from the bar.
To top off this quality pool-side scene, Mocchan was already lounging on a big ring floaty in the wave pool, donning quality shades and basking in the “sun”.
He raised a sangria, “Welcome to my party.”
Suishou sat by the side of the pool, her feet dangling in the water before looking down. Someone close could probably hear her mumbling, “I… thought it was our party…” before kicking the water.

Once Youko had finished explaining what happened, the Agents were left with more questions than answers. Regardless, there was not much they could do right now about the Scrapbooker’s mystery assailant. After all, Sorakuma summoned them and it wasn’t a wise idea to keep him waiting.
With a few Agents hanging back to make sure Youko wasn’t alone, all 17 of them entered the Video Tour Room. Inside, Sorakuma stood on a table next to the flat screen TV that was displaying the same distorted vacation video. Set up in front of it were 17 plastic seats. This couldn’t be good.
“Jeez what took you jerks so long to get here! My time is precious you know, it’s rude to keep your host waiting!! Hurry up and take a seat, I’m not even sure you deserve a surprise at all!”
Oh dear god let that be true…
“Juuuuuuust kidding! I would never do that to you adowable wittle agents!”
Damn it.
It was possible that a few of the Agents wished to grill Sorakuma about the fact that he had summoned Youko last night, however, they had nary a chance. Sorakuma was now clapping loudly at them to get into their seats.
“You all joined with the Future Foundation for your own reasons, I’m sure. But, it’s clear that you didn’t do it just for self preservation. No way, if that was the case then you wouldn’t have cared about helping others! Would have been better for you to join the other side. So, I don’t care how ya spin it, I know ya all got hearts in there and you care about what happens to innocent people!”
Sorakuma’s grin was sinister and plain awful to look at. You could tell that he was taking pleasure in every moment he spent torturing the Agents. With his words hanging in the air, Sorakuma pulled out a TV remote and pressed a button. All of a sudden the screen displayed two different towns.
But they weren’t towns that were unrecognizable. After all, these Agents had been working with the Future Foundation for a very long time. They could see the Foundation flags hung on the makeshift barriers and walls surrounding the settlement…
These were Foundation Safe Zones.
“These once prosperous villages have now been organised into designated ‘Safe Zones’ for people seeking to flee the horrors of the Tragedy. Sure, they may be a little crowded now, but the refugees here grow their own food, have plenty of drinking water and make a living trading gear and scrap in their marketplaces to scavengers! The only reason they are safe is thanks to the constant guard and protection from the Future Foundation!”
The screens zoom into the towns. Someone there must be filming this in real time. The Agents see worn out civilians going about their daily business in the town. Most of the buildings are worn; some of them destroyed. People are doing heavy lifting and trying to keep the streets clean. Children dart around their feet playing games in the street. You also see Future Foundation Agents, some of them recognizable from your time in HQ. They are helping the people as best as they can, but it’s clear to see they are low on numbers.
“You may be asking why I’m showing you this, hmm? Well, as you all know, the whole point of you being here is to participate in a killing game. Since Naragachi-san blew your chances with the first motive, I figured it was high time I started giving you something a little more… real. It’s time to test your loyalty, Agents!”
Sorakuma pressed another button on the remote and the TV cut to… frankly, a horrific and disturbing sight.
[ CW: mild cartoon horror (from official Dangan Ronpa Art) ]
It showed a black and white screen of a Monokuma, frantically trying to hold back a door filled with some of the most disturbing and feared enemies that the Foundation had ever encountered in the field…
Junk Monokuma.
“I’m sure you’re all familiar with the Junk Monokuma. Without a doubt, you’ve likely encountered one of these bad boys out in the field. An amalgamation abomination of destroyed Monokuma parts! The fiercest and most violent Kuma around! Ahh– I’m weak at the knees!!!”
Sorakuma started to laugh. The Junk Monokuma on the screen were getting more and more agitated.
“Kyahaha! I’m sure you’ve figured it out! That’s right, unless you kill a fellow agent, I’m gonna release the Junk Monokuma into both of these Safe Zones!! And believe me, they will slaughter everyone. However, if you do kill, then the killer gets to choose only one town to save, damning the other one to the Junk Monokuma. Of course, this one is time limited. You have 48 Hours to kill. If not, then both towns will be ransacked.”
There was a tense silence in the Video room. This time, they were on a time limit, and if they didn’t complete the task at hand – that being murdering a fellow agent – then hundreds of innocent people were going to die a horrible death.
Sorakuma hopped off his chair and started to walk out the room, cackling between words.
“I’m gonna leave this running as further motivation! Oh, and I forgot to mention – You should be aware that there is someone special to each of you in these Safe Zones. It should be an even split, half and half. How fortunate for me, huh? It’s like my birthday!”
And with that, Sorakuma was gone, leaving the Agents feeling certainly a lot worse than they did when they woke up this morning.

She finally moved.
A collective sigh of relief befell the Agents and a few of them rushed forward to start untying her. Once Youko was freed, she coughed a few times; feeling the relief from being able to breathe through her mouth again. It was going to take her a few moments before she could muster up the courage to speak about what happened.
In the meantime, the Agents spotted a few items lying next to the chair. Rubber gloves, a bottle of chloroform and a note.
Hanari Hokusai swiped the note and started to read the short, threatening message aloud to everyone.
“Next time, there will be no getting off with out any harm”
Whatever that meant, it couldn’t be good. What did this threat mean? Was the killing game going to start up again? Was somebody here that desperate to escape?
At this point in time, these questions could not be answered. Instead, all eyes turned on Youko Tachibana…
Once free from her restraints, able to see and speak once more, Youko looks around at her surroundings, confused as to where she was at first and how she got there. Tears began to well up in her eyes, and unfortunately as she recognized the faces around her and she started to at least slight piece together what happened, the tears didn’t stop. After a few moments of just crying, Youko swipes at her eyes (although it doesn’t do much as more tears replace the ones she just removed) and finally begins to explain why she was there.
“I-I-I… There was this note, and I had to… I had to meet Sorakuma-san at the light rail station a-and come by myself and I couldn’t tell anyone… Or… Or, um…”
She shakes her head, not wanting to even mention what was on the letter as an ‘or else.’
“I waited b-but no one came and I started to get sleepy and then…” She pauses to sniffle and wipe her eyes once more, “A-and then there was something over my face and I don’t remember anything else!”
She covers her face as she starts to cry even more.
“I-I’m sorry! I don’t know anything else o-or even where the note is anymore! I don’t know! I… I’m so sorry!”

It was a brand new day at Outpost 11. If the birds could be chirping, they would be. Sadly, in such a confined space with no way to access the outdoors without blowing up, the next best thing was the imagination.
Three days had past since the classroom trial and things had started to settle down… Somewhat. The usual nonsense occurred – drunken shenanigans, emotional hot tub conversations, Kumakoin hunting and of course, scandals. As far as the Agents were concerned, the Future Foundation was in shambles, if that encrypted message had anything to go by. As such they had to do their best to cope given that no escape from this place had presented itself.
The only option really was to murder and get away with it.
Even with two lost from their ranks, the Agents did their best to keep their spirits up and exploring the new area seemed to do it, however weird a dilapidated recreation resort was in a place like this. Who knows? It may have been a snapshot back to the good old days for some.
As many of the Agents prepared themselves for a new day of trying to stay alive, all of their E-Watches went off at once. Like many times before, the small hologram of Sorakuma wishing to give them a message.
“Eh-hem, calling all Agents! You should all be awake right now you lazy millennials! Come on hop to it! Meet me in the Video Tour Room right away! I have a surprise for you!”
With that, the transmission cut off. A surprise? Well, if it was Sorakuma saying it, then it couldn’t be anything good. None the less, defying their fuzzy captor was a one way ticket to smoldering in a crater. The best thing to do was to go meet him.
And so, each Agent left their rooms and started to walk to the Video Tour Room. However, looking around, it seemed like someone was missing…

It was not a relaxing nights sleep.
After the curious message from the Head of the Foundation, the Agents found themselves ready to start a brand new day, only this time, two of their comrades had fallen. It wasn’t going to be easy moving on after this, but if the encrypted message was anything to take serious then they needed to hold out as long as they possibly could.
And above all else, it was probably not a good idea to mention the message in front of Sorakuma.
However, with the cruel plush captor in mind, the Agents would wake up to yet another holographic message. Except this, time, it was from Sorakuma himself.
“Good morning ya bunch of lazies! Time to get up and greet a beautiful day! Smell that rusting metal and dust; just as good, if not better than fresh air! I would like you all to meet me in front of the Reception desk, ten hut!”
With that he switched off. It may not have been the top of the list of things you wanted to do today, but with the ticking time bomb on your wrist, it’s best to listen to what he has to say.
Five minutes later, the 17 Agents gathered in front of the Reception desk. Was this their official meeting place now? It was a weird feeling getting used to this place. Sorakuma himself stood on the desk, swaying back and forth as he awaited every last arrival. Once they were all settled, he cleared his throat and started to speak.
“Boy howdy, that Classroom Trial was a doozy, huh? I’m pretty proud of you all for getting it right and sending Naragachi-san to her well deserved doom! Kudos! Good little Agents get rewarded with nice things when they kill for Sorakuma-sensei”
What did he mean by nice things.
“If I leave you all in this place to rot, you might all get stockholm syndrome and start to massacre each other! As thrilling as that is, the whole point of this killing game is the mystery of it all. So sorry folks, no murderous rampages today! Instead, I’ve decided to open up a new area of Outpost 11 for you all to frolic around and have fun in! To access it, you simply need to board the Train at the station – Yeah, the same one that took you to the Trial Grounds – and use your E-Watch to scan the panel next to the door! Then select ‘Area 2′ and the train will whisk you away to your destination!”
So, it seemed like the Metro Tunnels have a function other than taking the Agents to and from the Trial Room. A new area to explore was a positive thing in a way. After all, there may be clues to what happened here as well as a possible escape route. Hoping for the best, that’s the best way to combat despair, right?
“When the Train arrives at a station it will stay there. If you don’t see the Train docked at the platform, then simply use the panel there to call it back! That way none of you are permanently trapped and separated! Finally, the Gift Shop has reopened for you to spend Kumakoins in. Have fun, and remember! You gotta kill someone if you wanna get out!”
Another brash reminder. After he finished talking, Sorakuma waddled off in the direction of the Meeting Rooms, presumably to go back to keeping an eye on the base.

Even in a world so desensitized to bloodshed, death was never easy to deal with.
It may have been difficult for the Agents to sleep the night after the trial; after all, the painful images of Tsuyoshi Tsukigami and Kotone Naragachi’s deaths were burned into their mind. In the matter of a single day, the horrific nature of this killing game had come to fruition. Betrayal, distrust, disloyalty. These were all the ingredients needed for despair.
Regardless of what each Agent was doing, all of them were suddenly alerted in the early hours of the morning by their E-Watch, which appeared to be making an unpleasant sound. It was an ear splitting buzzing accompanied by an odd flashing. Whether they were asleep or not, the Agents were certainly awake now. Roommates looked at each other with confused expressions as the watches started to fizzle out.
Then it happened.
A holographic image, much like the one that Sorakuma had been using to contact them, appeared on screen. However, unlike the others, this message was warped and distorted, as if it had to be hacked into the system. In fact, when looking at the watch’s screen, the words Encrypted Message Warning! appeared in the top left corner.
After a few moments of static, the Agents heard a familiar voice. It sounded agitated and was muffled by the sounds of distant explosions.
“Hello? Hello?! Is this thing on? Gosh darn it, did your agents hack into this correctly Tougaku-san? Hmph, well, connected or not, this is our only hope…”
The voice was that of the Future Foundation Chairman: Sadako Kirimizu.
After a few more moments of static, the Agents could finally see Sadako’s face in the hologram. In the background, it was difficult to distinguish but they could make out the old Industrial Park that Foundation HQ was situated in. It seemed like… Agents were evacuating, what was going on?
“Agents, I hope that you are receiving this message s-s-someho-ow. I-It is —- possible that— encryption codes to ensure that we are unable to reach you.”
It seemed as if this call was one way. Sorakuma must have encrypted all networks leading into Outpost 11. At the very least, it explained why the Foundation hadn’t contacted until now.
“T-There— little time. Almost as soon as we received word on the attack at Outpost 11— ndation HQ was hit by waves of Monokuma and Warriors of Despair.” There is another explosion in the background, causing Sadako to flinch. She turns from the screen and waves her hands at some Agents, who move forward with their Assault rifles and open fire at Monokuma that were charging out of the base. “We are in the p– of evacuating but w-w-we are sending an extraction team to –11 as soon as possible. —– seems like our —tions have been compromised. Y-You are the —- of the best. If you do receive this message — your best to hold out until—”
Before Sadako could finish, a Monokuma charged directly at her and the camera. The last thing you could see was her drawing a pistol and taking aim, before the animatronic bear collided with the camera, shutting the system down.
You look to your roommate who saw the exact same message that you did. Whatever happened, it seems like the attack wasn’t just on Outpost 11, but on HQ as well. This was worrisome… After all, some friends and family were back at Headquarters. Whoever is behind this killing game clearly doesn’t want the Future Foundation to reach the Agents to rescue them.
For the time being, it was best to fall back asleep. After all, the Classroom Trial still hung heavy in everyone’s minds. Whatever happened tonight was best to be discussed together, in the morning.

Kotone Naragachi was dead, executed for murdering Tsuyoshi Tsukigami.
All of the Agents stood at their podiums, watching as the screen faded to black. No-one made a sound, perhaps save for a few murmurs here and there. This was the true nature of this killing game, wasn’t it? What they witnessed, it was barbaric. However, it is just as Sorakuma said.

“The train will be waiting for you at the station to take you back to the main hall! Get some rest, and don’t forget, if you want to leave, you gotta kill someone!”
The Train ride back to the Main hall was as quiet as the trip up, only this time, the seat that Kotone had once sat was now vacant. It was an ever hardening reminder of the deadly risk that this game carried.
Eventually, the train pulled into the station and the Agents were allowed to disembark. When entering the Main hall, they could turn to face the board above the door to the station. On it, they could see the names of Tsuyoshi Tsukigami and Kotone Naragachi crossed out. Eliminated from the killing game.
